Alden
On the southeastern shore of scenic Torch
Lake lies the quaint Village of Alden. With
a population of 125 (according to the 2010
census) that number grows substantially
during the summer months with visitors
drawn to the community “Where Neighbors Meet.”
As it was more than a century ago — when people boarded
the “Resorter” train bound for Alden — those “neighbors”
come from near and far to embrace the hidden gem of Antrim
County. And while the rails may be gone, the restored
Alden Depot remains as a landmark tribute to the village’s
past and enduring character.
Helping enhance that character are the town’s newest
attractions: a 13-foot lighthouse, which not only stands
as an aesthetic addition to the picturesque shoreline,
but also serves as an easily visible point of reference for
boaters; and a hand-built Veteran’s Memorial that honors
those who have given their service to the country,
state and community — which includes military personnel
as well as law enforcement, firefighters and EMS personnel
— who protect and safeguard the community.
From quaint shops on the east side of town to the Depot
Museum, lighthouse and Memorial nestled on the south
side of the village, Alden is filled with unique places to admire
and explore.
