1ST Round
1st round of the SASC held at the Formula K
track in Benoni.
Round one of the 2022 season kicked off at
Formula-K track in Benoni with quite a bang.
We sent along our good friend and well known
motorsport photographer Eugene Liebenberg
to get us the skinny on the days racing and this
is what he came back with…
The Formula-K track is one of my very
favourites in the photographic sense of things.
Any angle of shot can be had there and the
back grounds are good and there is lots of
movement and direction changes in the track
layout making for many superb action photo
opportunities.
South African
Short Circuit Series
With all the rain we have been having up in
Gauteng lately we were all relieved to wake
up on the 26th of February to a great sunny
day, giving us awesome weather for the start
of this series. All the multi coloured gazebos
gave the pits a very festive atmosphere, with
most teams putting in a lot of effort to look as
professional and as attractive as possible for
the spectators. Big smiles all over the place!
The good race commentary added to the
atmosphere keeping everyone very interested
and quite excited about what was happening
out on track. The team running things at
Formula-K really do put in a lot of effort in
keeping the track and the facilities in general
in really great condition, making it a really
pleasant venue to watch motorsports for the
general public.
@ Formula K
The racing was fantastic as usual across all
classes. There was great competition between
the riders in the various classes, nice clean
overtaking manoeuvres and some crazy late
braking into the corners to try and grab the
advantage in the bends. Everybody was elbows
out and rubbing shoulders at every given
opportunity.
However, my personal favourite will forever
be the baby class… the tiny 50cc ‘s. This is
the cutest class by far!!! And man do the kids
love it!! Also very healthy, great to have kids
outside and enjoying the sunshine, adrenalin
and camaraderie that comes with competitive
motorsport.
In the Junior Motard classes it’s easy to see
where the future SM1/X hooligans are bred...
