About St. Francis De Sales School (CBSE)

St. Francis de Sales’ School (SFS CBSE), Shanthi Nagar, Secunderabad is run by the

Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales (also known as the MSFS/Fransalians) who run

more than 150 Educational Institutions throughout India. Here in Secunderabad

(North Lallaguda) the Fransalians (MSFS), started SFS SCHOOL in June 1976 with

SSC Syllabus. Since 1976 SFS School has been the source of wisdom and knowledge

for a great number of students. Now after 45 years of imparting quality education

and Character through SFS- SSC, we the Fransalians at the request and demand

of the public have started this new CBSE School from 2022-2023 academic year.

The congregation of Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales has 180 years of history

of being in the field of education and has its presence in 35 countries imparting

Quality Education. We the Fransalians after our Founder, Fr. Peter Marie Mermier

(1790-1862), a French saintly priest, believe that Education is incomplete without

Character Formation. Fr. Mermier expected three things from the pupils, namely,

Knowledge, Wisdom and Discipline. For him “True Education is opening the heart

rather than mind”. So we believe in the motto: “Education of the Heart is the Heart

of Education. The patron of the MSFS Congregation, as well as the SFS Schools, is

St. Francis de Sales (1567-1622), who is called a “Gentleman Saint” and the “Patron

of Journalists”.

As a Missionary School, we work not only for the intellectual, cultural and physical

development of our children from the earliest stages but also for the formation

of character. We inculcate in them sound moral principles, so that they grow up

as good children of God and responsible citizens of our country.

The education at SFS aims at the all-round formation of individuals (physically

fit, morally upright, spiritually oriented, emotionally balanced, intellectually

informed, culturally integrated, socially aware and responsible future citizens of

their motherland) who would act as agents of social change in a great and multireligious

nation to live in harmony with their fellow citizens and to build up a

welfare nation of God-fearing and God-loving people.

Our Heavenly Patron

St. Francis de Sales was born in an aristocratic family on the 21 st of August 1567

at Savoy in France. His father was Monsieur De Boisy. He received the best type

of education of that time and took a doctorate in civil and canon law from the

University of Padua in Italy. After the formal education his parents wanted him to

join a legal profession in the Senate of Savoy, but he was determined to become a

priest. In spite of many obstacles, he fulfilled his desire and was Ordained a priest

in December 1593. He `was made the Bishop of Geneva in 1602.

Francis De Sales, known as the ‘Gentleman Saint, was an able Pastor and Teacher.

As bishop he preached frequently, visited his diocese often advised and guided his

priests and people with paternal care and reformed many monasteries. He was

a spiritual director to many people of all classes of society through his personal

interviews and numerous letters. He became one of the greatest spiritual

directors through his world-famous writings: “The Introduction to Devout Life”,

“The Treatise on the love of God” and “The Spiritual Conferences”. He died in Lyon

on 28 th December 1622 at the age of 55.

Pope Alexander the VII canonized Francis De sales a saint of the church in 1661. He

was declared “Doctor of the church”(a great teacher) in 1877 by Pope Pius the IX

and patron of Catholic Journalists and writers by Pius the XI in 1923.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is

insight.

Proverbs 9:10

Our Beloved Founder

Rev. Fr. Peter Mermier was born on 28th August 1790, at Savoy in France. His

father was Francois Mermier and Mother Antoniette Bastion. He grew up as a

child dedicated and hard working, endowed with a calm character, alert mind,

bright intelligence and genuine piety. He did excellently well in his studies. He was

a model and inspiration to the rest of the students.

As a boy he manifested his desire to become a priest to serve the people. He

was ordained priest on 21 st March 1813. He was then only Twenty two and a half

years old. Then he worked as a teacher at Melan where he formulated his own

philosophy of education.

He founded the congregation of Sisters of the Cross of Chavanod for the education

of poor peasant girls. He initiated the educational apostolate of the missionaries

by undertaking the management of secondary schools of Melan and Evian in

France. Leaving behind a heritage of dazzling holiness, heroic courage and faith,

Fr. Mermier breathed his last on 30 th September, 1862.

Fr. Mermier firmly believed that education is a work of love and that it is incomplete

without religious formation. He envisaged an educational programme marked

by respect for children. He advised his teacher confreres to love their pupils, to

be a mother to them by their tenderness and a father by their prudence. “True

education”, according to him, “is opening the heart rather than mind”. He expected

from the pupils three things: knowledge, wisdom and discipline.

Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.

Proverbs 16:3

MONDAY - WISDOM

Where shall wisdom be found?

And where is the place of understanding?

Man knows not the price thereof

Neither is it found in the land of the living.

The depth says, It is not in me;

And the sea says, It is not with me.

It cannot be got for gold

Neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof

From where then comes wisdom?

And where is the place of understanding?

God understands the way thereof,

And He knows the place thereof,

And unto man he said, “Behold, The fear of the Lord, that is wisdom;

And to depart from evil is understanding.’’

COMPASSION

Be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren be pitiful, be

courteous, not rendering evil, or railing for railing, but contrariwise blessing, knowing

that ye are there-unto called, that ye should inherit a blessing. For he that will love life

and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil and his lips, that they speak no

guilt, let him eschew evil and do good. Let him seek peace and ensue it. For the eyes of

Lord are over the righteous, and his ears open unto their prayers, but the face of the

Lord is against them that do evil.

TIME

Take time for work, It is the price of success.

Take time to think, It is the source of power.

Take time to play, It is the secret of youth.

Take time to read, it is the foundation of wisdom,

Take time to be friendly, It is the road to happiness.

Take time to dream, It is hitching your wagon to a star.

Take time to love and beloved, It is the privilege of God.

Take time to look around, It is too short a day to be selfish.

Take time to laugh, It is the sound of music.

Take time to worship God, It is the way to please him.

For everything there is an appointed time, Even a time for every affair under the heavens,

a time for birth and a time to die, a time to plant and time to uproot what was planted,

a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to break down and a time to build, a time to

weep and a time to laugh, a time to wait and time to skip about, a time to throw stones

away and a time to bring stones together, a time to embrace and a time to keep away

from embracing , a time to seek and a time to give up as lost, a time to keep and a time

to throw away, a time to rip apart and a time to sew together, a time to keep quiet and

a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.

LOVE

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding

gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries

and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am

nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it does not boast, it is

not proud. It is not rude, It is not self-seeking, It is not easily angered, it keeps no record

of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects,

always trusts, always hopes, always and perseveres.

THANKSGIVING

PRAYER

Let us thank God for this earth, with all its beauty and variety, its glory, and its

friendliness.

WE THANK THEE. O GOD, FOR THE EARTH.

For the sky; It’s sunshine and cloud, its everchanging loveliness; for the sun, moon and

stars.

WE THANK THEE, O GOD, FOR THE SKY.

For the day, its light and air, its works and play

WE THANK THEE, O GOD, FOR THE DAY.

For the nights; its quiet and rest, its peacefulness and refreshing sleep.

WE THANK THEE, O GOD, FOR THE NIGHT.

For home and shelter, for parents and friends, for growth of mind and

protection of body.

WE THANK THEE, O GOD, FOR OUR HOMES.

We praise thee, O God, for all that thou hast given us, help us to use the gifts better,

and to show our gratitude by giving ourselves more truly to thy service.

AMEN

TUESDAY - UNSELFISHNESS

Give alms to the poor; do not turn away your face from any poor man, and the face of

God shall not be turned away from you. Give alms according to your capacity. If you have

little, be not afraid to give according to that little.

Do not withhold the wages of any man who has worked for you. Pay him his wages because

he is poor and his counting on it. And what you yourself hate, do to no man. Share

your food with the hungry, provide the poor wanderer with shelter and when you see

the naked, clothe him.

Do not give alms unwillingly or under compulsion for God loves a cheerful giver.

SMILE

A smile costs nothing but gives much. It enriches those who receive without making

poorer those who give. It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts

forever. None is so rich or mighty that he can be made rich by it. A smile creates happiness

in the home, fosters goodwill in business, and is the countersign of friendship. It

brings rest to the weary, cheer to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad, and is nature’s

best antidote for trouble. Yet it cannot be bought, begged, or stolen for it is something

that is of no value to anyone until it is given away. Some people are too tired to give you a

smile. Give them one of yours, as none needs a smile so much as he who has none to give.

GENEROSITY

Ask counsel of every man that is wise and despise not any counsel that is profitable.

And bless the Lord your God at all times. Pray that all your ways might be made

straight and that your paths and counsels might prosper.

Do not fear, because we are made poor; if you fear God and depart from all sin and do

what is pleasing in His sight, you shall enjoy much wealth.

WEDNESDAY - HUMILTY

Better to be lowly in spirit and among the oppressed than to share plunder with the

proud. Humility and the fear of the Lord bring wealth and honour and life. A man’s pride

brings him low, but a man of lowly spirit gains honour. Whoever humbles himself like a

little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. For this is what the High and Lofty

One who is residing forever and whose name is holy says: “I live in a high and holy place,

but also with him who is crushed and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and

the crushed.

Therefore, humble yourselves in the eyes of the Lord, and he will exalt you.

UNITY

Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eye of everybody.

As far as possible live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave

room for God’s wrath for it is written: “Vengeance is mine, I will repay”, says the Lord. On

the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him, if he is thirsty, give him something to

drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coal on his head. Do not be overcome by evil,

but overcome evil with good.

THURSDAY ON HEALTH

If you listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes,

if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will no bring on you any

of the diseases I brought on the heathen for I am the Lord who heals you. Worship the

Lord your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness

from among you.

Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, He forgives all your sins and

heals all your diseases.

Is anyone sick among you? Let him pray. Confess your sins to each other and pray for

each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and

effective.

BEWARE OF WRONG COMPANY

Pay attention to this: There will be perilous times in the last days. People will be lovers of

themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful,

unholy without natural affection, unforgiving, false accusers, without self-control,

brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather

than lovers of God, ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth,

having a form of godliness but denying its power. Keep away from such people.

FRIDAY - THE TONGUE

There is one who keeps silent and is found wise, and there is one who is hated for his

much talk. There is one who keeps silence, for he has no answer to make and there is one

who keeps silence knowing when to use his tongue. A wise man will be silent till his time

comes, but the braggart and fool will indulge in vain talk.

The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.

The stroke of a whip makes a mark in the flesh, but the stroke of a tongue will break

bones. Many have fallen by the edge of the sword, yet not so many as they that have

fallen because of the tongue.

SATURDAY - A FAITHFUL FRIEND

A faithful friend is a strong defence; and whoever has found him has found a treasure.

There is nothing that can be taken in exchange for a faithful friend and his excellence is

beyond price. A faithful friend is a medicine of life, and those who fear the Lord shall find

him. He who fears the Lord directs his friendship aright, for as he is, so is his neighbour

also.

parents, teachers and all elders respect and treat everyone with courtesy. To my country

From darkness lead me to the light

From death lead me to immortality

IN HIS TIME

In His time, in His time,

He makes all things beautiful in His time.

Lord, please show me every day

That you do just what You say in your

time.

In Your time, in your time,

You make all things beautiful in your time.

Lord, my life to You I bring,

With its winter and its spring,

May I fathom everything in Your time.

Both for sowing and for reaping there’s a

time.

Time for losing, time for gain,

Time for joy and time for pain,

Every purpose under heaven has a time.

MAKE ME A CHANNEL

Make me a channel of your peace

Where there is hatred let me bring your

love

Where there is injury, your pardon Lord

And where there is doubt true faith in You

Oh, Master grant that I may never seek

So much to be consoled as to console To

be understood as to understand

To be loved as to love with all my soul

Make ma a channel of your peace

Where there is despair in life let me bring

hope

Where there is darkness only light

And where there’s sadness ever joy

ALL THINGS BRIGHT AND

BEAUTIFUL

Ch:

All things bright and beautiful

All things great and small

All things wise and wonderful

The Lord God made them all

Each little flower that opens

Each little bird that sings

He made their glowing colours

He made their tiny wings

The purple headed mountains

The river running by

The sunset and the morning

That brightens up the sky

PRAYER FOR INDIA (Rabindranath

Tagore)

Into that heaven of freedom my father.

Let my country awake

Where the mind is without fear and the

head is held high Where knowledge is free

Where the world has not been broken up

into fragments By narrow domestic walls

Where words come out from the depth of

truth

Where tireless striving stretches its way

towards perfection

Where the clear stream of reason has

not lost it’s way into the dreary desert

sands of dead habit Where the mind is

led forward by thee into ever Widening

thought and action

“I Am A Child”

I am a child.

All the world waits for my coming

All the earth watches with interest

To see what I shall become.

The future hangs in the balance,

For what I am

The world of tomorrow will be.

I am a child,

I have come into your world

About which I know nothing.

Why I came I know not.

How I came I know not.

MOTIVATING PUPILS

As adults, we are all motivated in different ways and the same is true for children.

Some children are highly motivated and take great pleasure in their own success. Others

are highly comp etitive and enjoy gaining greater success than their classmates. Most

pupils wish to please the teacher so it is the job of the teacher to encourage all pupils to

be proud of their own achievements and to raise self-esteem, so that the pupil continues

to give maximum effort and increase personal success.

If a pupil displays a negative attitude to school this could be due to variety of factors

both in and out of school. The pupil may have a history of failure and have just ‘given up’.

Most teachers can recognize and reward success. Failure is more difficult.

It is important that children recognize that making mistakes, is part of the learning process

and by developing strategies to rectify their mistakes they will be able to solve

them in future.

• A pupil who constantly fails needs additional support, otherwise his/her self-esteem

will be damaged so much that she/he may give up trying.

• It is important to differentiate between the success of the individual and comparisons

with other children of the same age.

• A pupil may be a difficult home life, which leaves no energy for schoolwork, or the

family may have a negative attitude towards school.

It is vital that the teacher is sensitive to the needs of this pupil and by gentle persuasion

and encouragement gradually encourages the pupil to reengage with academic activity.

Some strategies for motivating pupils

Good role model: Teachers who are fair and demonstrate a real concern for the pupils

in their care are more likely to have a class, which responds in a positive way.

Enthusiasm: If a pupil displays a negative attitude to school, this could be due to variety

of factors both in and out of school.

Children, like adults, are inspired by the enthusiasm of others. Teachers who show a

true enthusiasm and interest in their subject are likely to inspire in their pupils a desire

to learn the skills and attitudes which will allow them to enjoy these subjects. Exposing

pupils to other experts in the field will model these attributes so take them to:

• Watch a drama production

• Invite an author or artist to speak about their work

• Attend a live sporting event.

Commitment to the job

Concern for the children and getting to know them well as individuals will demonstrate

your commitment to know and understanding them:

• make time to talk to them about their individual interests

• find out more about their social and cultural backgrounds

• widening your professional role within the school by taking on responsibilities

outside the classroom shows your commitment to the school

• run an after-school club

• volunteer to help with extra curricula activities

• Organize a science/arts week.

Physical environment

It is important to motivate pupils by providing a stimulating and safe environment. This

means providing exciting displays, which change regularly, reflect the interests of the

pupils and celebrate their work. Try interactive displays which pose questions and inspire

children to find out more.

The classroom should be a place where the pupils feel safe to suggest and try out new

ideas knowing that their opinions will be valued. So:

• Give children time to think of high-quality answers rather than take the first

‘hands-up’

• Value all children’s responses.

Planning to motivate pupils

Selecting and designing tasks involves not only a sound understanding of the material to

be taught but also matching the level of work to that of the pupil. It is also vital that the

subject matter is appropriate for, the individuals in the class. So:

• Provide opportunities for pupils to reflect on and share their personal experiences

and their feelings about the topic being studied (this reassures the pupils and

allows the teacher an opportunity to plan appropriate tasks)

• draw on what pupils already know and can do to stimulate their interest and

imagination

• Select tasks that are challenging and achievable.

For effective learning to take place, learners need to understand what they are trying to

achieve, and want to achieve it. Understanding and commitment follows when the pupils

have some part in deciding goals and identifying criteria for assessment.

These criteria should be discussed with the pupils, providing examples of how the criteria

can be met and engaging the pupils in peer and self –assessment.

Teaching styles:

Children learn in different ways so when planning lessons, use a variety of strategies to

cater for different learning styles.

Feedback:

The way in which a teacher gives feedback on a pupil’s work has an enormous impact on

their motivation. There has been a great deal of research into the impact of feedback on

children’s learning and one of the most important findings is that children only focus on

marks and ignore the comments that accompany them. Therefore, if the teacher wants

the pupil to improve learning she/he should:

• pinpoint the learner’s strengths and advise how to develop them

• be clear and constructive about any weaknesses and how they might be addresses

• provide opportunities for learners to improve upon their work and with a clear

understanding or what to do next

• adjust teaching to take account of the results of assessment.

So, in order to motivate pupils to learn effectively teachers must provide a safe and

stimulating environment. Within this setting, the teacher must provide a curriculum

which is relevant to them, takes into account their learning needs and builds on their

prior knowledge and experience.

Ten Ways to Motivate Students

Today is all about motivating students. These are ten ways we can use to motivate

students:

• Pride! Luckily, there are some students who take pride in themselves and just

plain want to do well. They want to make the teacher happy. Don’t you love these

kids? Don’t you wish there were more of these? Unfortunately, there are a lot of

kids who don’t have pride in themselves, or just don’t have enough. Therefore, we

need the other nine.

• Stickers! Children love stickers. A hefty supply is necessary for most teachers of

little ones. Personally, I usually only give out stickers for homework, but many

teachers give out stickers for daily work. My students work pretty hard for one

sticker for homework each day! On special occasions, I’ll pull out the scented stickers!

• Working with a partner! Kids are social, and the idea of working with another

child is super motivating. Let them choose their own partner, and you’ll be their

hero! They can read with a partner, write a story with a partner, or practice math

facts. There’s a whole world of possibilities.

• Let them earn an extra recess! I think is a “win-win”. We know that kids need to

run and exercise and burn off steam. The promise of being able to do what they

need to do is motivating for the kids to work!

• Inspire them! I find if I say a few words about a book, the children all want to read

that book. If I show them a sample of my writing, they want to try a similar piece

of writing. If I make something look interesting or fun, they want to try it.I could

never sell cars, but I sure can sell a book to a kid!

• Let them put something cool on their desk for a while! Personally, I use a collection

of beanie babies that I’ve saved since my daughter was little. They can keep it

on their desk for the day. If they do something quite spectacular, I let them keep

a little flag on their desk for a week. They are mighty proud of these, and they can

tell you what each little trophy is for!

• Play a game! There are so many possibilities for games. There are group games

like Around the World, Scoot, and variations of Jeopardy, Hollywood Squares, and

Family Feud. Then there are partner games, centers, and activities. Sometimes

they have so much fun, they don’t even realize they’re learning!

• Group Projects! When there is a product and a “performance” involved, the kids

get moving! Most kids love working in small groups putting together some sort of

project, then others are super motivated by the thought of standing in front of

their class. They really remember these group projects for years to come.

• Have a dance party! This work well for my group. You can work out the details,

but if they reach a certain point, just stop for the moment, and turn on the music.

My kids love this, as it happens to be a group that really responds to music and

movement. It only takes a few minutes of the day, and they’ve had their exercise

and burned off some steam. That makes a dance party another “win-win”! Other

forms of this type of group reward can be a pizza party or a make your own ice

cream party.

• Special recognition! Single out a student for spectacular work. I often read examples

of good work, or hold up examples of good effort on handwriting. We do

Student of the Week. I have a Super Improvers Wall, where they get stickers and

work their way up the ladder when we notice they have improved at something

– it can be anything from remembering to pass in homework, to improvement in

behavior, to improvement in knowing math facts. One of my students said moving

on the improvement board was even better than earning a flag for a week!

Heaven’s Very Special Child

(In Memory of Jeffrey Ratliff—a very special child)

A meeting was held quite far from earth,

It’s time again for another birth.

Said the Angels to the Lord above,

This special child will need much love.

His progress may seem very slow.

Accomplishments he may not show.

And he’ll require extra care,

From the folks he meets down there.

He may not run or laugh or play,

His thoughts may seem quite far away.

In many ways he won’t adapt,

And he’ll be known as handicapped.

So, let’s be careful where he’s sent.

We want his life to be content.

Please Lord find the right parents who,

Will do a special job for you.

They will not realize right away,

The leading role they’re about to play.

But with this child sent from above,

Comes stronger faith and richer love.

And soon they’ll know the privilege given

In caring for this gift from Heaven.

Their precious child so meek and mild,

Is Heaven’s Very Special Child.

helpful tips for helping child to imbibe reading habit.

If you want your child to take deep interest in reading, you should create an environment

in the house so that it encourages him to read. Books and the characters in them have

great impact on the child when he is in school or college and most often it is seen in his

life too. If his reading is very high, it can form his career of life too. Reading is not spontaneous

or short-term hobby. It is a life long leisure pursuit and it helps build vocabulary,

strengthen imagining power and helps educate your child too.

There are few steps that you can take to back your child’s reading hobby and make him

feel special about it too. Reading is one of the hobbies that have all benefits and it is not

just making one happy and contented.

Steps and Guidelines for Raising a Child who Read

Have a quick look at few steps and guidelines for raising a child who reads.

• Buy Books – Do not just restrict yourself in buying books that are age restricted.

Fill your home with all kinds of books. Reading habit of your child will increase if he

sees books in every room and every shelf. If you cannot spend lot of money, buy

used books. They are cheap. If your child is quite young, buy him picture books.

You can also have independent reading books for young children.

• Attend Book Fares and Sales – Try to take you child along with you whenever there

is any book fare or sale in your city. Let him select few books and see what type

of interest he has. Show excitement about purchasing new books. You should also

buy some books for yourself so that you also read when he reads his book. This

will create the perfect reading environment.

• Buy him Bookshelves – Buy book shelves for your child so that he is able to arrange

and keep his favorite books as he wishes to keep. You can keep books in

different rooms and so you need few bookshelves for that.

• Purchase Other Mediums of Reading – Do not forget to buy other books, magazines

and encourage your child to read newspapers daily. Invest in buying magazines

that have suitable content for your child. If your child has interest in sports,

you can subscribe for a good and informative sports magazine for him.

• Read Yourself – If you want your child to develop reading habit, right from the

very beginning if he sees you reading, he will automatically get into the habit of

reading books. You can read out stories during bedtime or by the warm fire in

winter evenings.

• Play Word Making Games – There are some games like speller, scrabble or spell-ofun.

Play with your child so that his vocabulary gets improved.

• Respect Books – Teach your child to respect books. This means motivate him to

keep the books in place after he finishes reading them. For this you will have to

do that first.

• Do Not Put Pressure on Your Child – If your child does not feel like reading sometimes

do not force him.

• Give Books as Presents – Present your child a book on special occasions.

• Get Him Library Card – Get him a library card and make him join book clubs.

• Teach Him about Famous Writers - Let him find out and you too help him learn

something about the writer whose book he is reading.

Which Skills Are Skills And Why You Need Them

Life skills are described as “problem-solving behaviours used appropriately and responsibly

in the management of personal affairs.” A But, this definition sounds confusing.

Simply described, a life skill is a piece of fund practical knowledge that will shape the rest

of your life. The more you learn, the better life skills you’ll have, and the more prosperous

your life will become.

Key life skills are ones like decision making and critical thinking. It is easy to be decisive

in particular situation if you are confident, and confidence comes from knowledge. It is

wrong to think that you must know everything. In fact, as the saying goes, often “the

more you learn, the less you know”. However, if you learn how to pick the right information

from the bulk, you will be able to evaluate any situation quickly and resourcefully

solve whatever the problem is.

Don’t be fooled and get false confidence that good problem-solving skills can solve every

problem out there. You also need creativity, and that comes from brainstorming and

team work. As Robert Sternberg says: “And in order to succeed in later life, you need

creative skills because look at how fast the world is changing.”

There is a good reason why creativity and communication are the key factors in what

makes the human a superior animal. People share ideas, build and overthrow them, because

that’s how people are – they listen, talk, talk more and work together to achieve

higher goals. If you accept that simple truth, and open to other people’s ideas, you’ll find

out that talking with your teammates and friends can give you the brightest solutions.

Here is the list of some of the most important life skills by UNICEF:

• Verbal communication

• Active listening

• Giving feedback without blaming others and receiving feedback without being

insulted

• Refusal skills

• Negotiation skills

• Information gathering skills

• Finding alternative solutions to problems

• Time management

• Positive thinking

• Relaxation techniques
