CSI Moderator & Bishop
Dear Youngsters of Church of South India,
With great and cheerful heart I am extending my ardent greeting to you on this celebrating occasion
of the second National Youth Conference.
e Church is been called to be the ray of hope in these cynical times. In these unjust times, to be
the witness of Christ is to be counted as privilege as a church. Like a fresh brook in the desert, the
church should quench the thirst of many. For that the youth of the church has a vital role. Unless
we seek the truth and do the justice, we fail to become a blessing to many. Jesus Christ meets the
men and women of every age with the same words: ‘You will know the truth and the truth will make
you free’ (Jn 8:32). ese words contain both a fundamental requirement and a warning: the requirement
of an honest relationship to truth as a condition for authentic freedom, and the warning
to avoid every kind of illusory freedom, every superficial unilateral freedom, every freedom that fails
to enter into the whole truth about the human being and the world. is message still speaks to this
generation.
I am honored to convey my wishes and prayers to all the delegates from all over India who belong
to Church of South India. I congratulate Rev. T. T. Santhosh, all other office bearers of the National
Youth Conference and the Church Committee members of Immanuel CSI Malayalam Church for
their admirable efforts in conducting the Synod Youth Conference.
With prayerful regards,

Greetings in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ
Youth are the light houses of the society. ey are supposed to be following the way of Jesus like
their own shade. Never switch off the good and powerful light called ‘Youth’. As the ambassadors of
Christ, the youth should act and work hard today. If we do not follow the life cornered on Christ,
our life will be a failure. We should believe and know that the laws and solutions or our life is the
Holy Bible.
I am so glad when the CSI 2 nd National Youth Conference is conducted under CSI Malayalam
Church, in Hyderabad. e eme chosen for the meditation ‘Faith’s Unknown Battlegrounds
(FUBG), is germane in today’s world. According to a Christian, he has to believe that Jesus Christ
is the saviour of the world and through him only our sins will be forgiven and will get Eternal Life.
In this we require personal salvation. e first step of this is to accept that we are sinners and imperfect.
When we believe that Jesus Christ has died for us and accept him as our saviour, we become new creation.
ere is only one way to kingdom of God and that is ‘the way of the Cross’. So by the appointment
from God, preaching of the Gospel should be done with fear, shivering and purity. In today’s
world each one of us needs personal decontamination and restoration is needed. en only the impurities
in us will be moved.
We have to get the awareness in this world where the good deeds are dying in this society and the
church. We need the breath of the Holy Spirit, and then only it will be possible. e Church is the
unity of the people who are created for good deeds and help each other. e caring each other
among the Churches is the strength of this union.
Let this conference make everyone to open their mind and gain new strength to follow our Lord
Jesus Christ in a better, purified and committed way. I appreciate all who have worked immensely
for this conference from my heart.
In Jesus Name,
Rev. T. T. Santhosh.

Philippians 4:13
Greetings to all in the name of our saviour Jesus Christ!
e moment I took my pen to write this letter, I remembered
all the things we discussed during the 1 st NYC planning meet
held at Delhi. ere were so many concerns raised against conducting
the National Youth Conference. Finally, the Youth Movement of
Union Malayalam Churches in Mumbai and Pune did a great job by conducting
an amazing conference in 2017 at Pune. I am so happy that we, the Immanuel CSI
Malayalam Church Youth Fellowship, Hyderabad, got a chance to continue the National youth conference
this year. NYC is always a great chance for all our youths from across the country to unite in the name of
Christ, spend time together, build a fellowship, and bond with each other.
Starting the NYC journey was a huge challenge. ere were concerns regarding finance, availability of volunteers,
and many others. But God’s purpose has prevailed above all. I praise God Almighty for the blessing and guidance
throughout our preparation for NYC.
We were always encouraged by the words of Apostle Paul to the Philippians; “I can do all things through him who
strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)
After a lot of deliberation and prayers, we narrowed down on FAITH as the overarching theme for this year’s National
Youth Conference. Also taking into consideration a popular demand, we integrated it with one of the trending
online games called PUBG—Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds and titled this year’s theme as “FUBG—Faith’s Unknown
Battlegrounds”.
I was fortunate to be backed by an amazing and talented team who planned everything well and took care of each
and everything. e sincerity and commitment were beyond expectations in spite of being less in number.
I would like to I extend my sincere gratitude to everyone who helped us throughout the preparation. Especially, I
would like to extend my thanks to Rev. T. T. Santhosh for helping and guiding us all the time, and Rev. John K.
Mathew and Rev. Biju Kunjummen for helping us in coordinating the event. A big thank you to our Church committee
who helped us in all the possible ways. I also express my sincere gratitude to all the Achens and Youth secretaries
and their team for their positive responses and help. I would like to thank each and every one of our Youth and National
Youth Conference team, without whom this wouldn’t be possible, who worked restlessly for this day and night
Above all, I praise our God Almighty, for His love, grace, and faithfulness, and His divine providence in planning
and preparing for this conference.
May God Bless You All!

“We are created for community, fashioned for
fellowship, and formed for a family, and none
of us can fulfill God’s purposes by ourselves.”
- Rick Warren-
Greetings in the Holy name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
After a blessed time of fellowship at Kamshet in 2017, the Immanuel CSI Church Youth Fellowship (Hyderabad),
eagerly await to host the 2 nd National Youth Conference. Our vertical relationship with Christ is never
complete without exercising the horizontal relationship with our fellow believers and this is exactly what this conference
serves as a platform for. is is a wonderful opportunity to meet youth from other churches of the CSI
family, refresh the bonds created in 2017 and mutually encourage each other in our spiritual growth.
Faith’s Unknown Battlegrounds – Do you think there is a battleground when you consider faith? When we
accept Christ into our lives, we are unable to foresee the battles and challenges that await us. Our faith gets tested
every day, be it in our colleges or work places or in our routines in society. What is our response in these situations?
Do we take the worldly way or do we take a stand (albeit difficult) to defend our Christian faith? is is
what God teaches us through the scriptures – to be always prepared to face your battles (internal and external)
and defend your faith.
Our heartfelt gratitude to the Moderator of CSI, Most Rev. omas K Oommen, all the participating churches,
Presbyters in-charge, and the delegates for your prayers, guidance and support throughout. We hope these 3 days
make a strong impact in your lives and help you to prepare yourselves for your upcoming faith battles. Let’s
charge on with Christ in our lives to face our battles!
anking you,

From the desk of
the Church Secretary
I am happy that the 2 nd National Youth Conference
is being held at CHAI Training Center, Kompally,
by our CSI Malayalam Pastorate Youth in Hyderabad
from the 25 th to the 27 th of Oct, 2019.
Investing God’s Word in the lives of today's youth has become a
matter of great importance for the healthy growth of the body of
Christ. Teaching young people in churches to grow in their understanding and
relationship with their Saviour, prepares them to be Christ’s disciples all their lives.
is will result in the church becoming true witnesses of our Lord Jesus.
Mentoring young people is an absolute necessity as it prepares them to become future leaders. is is seen many
times in the Bible, as God often used young people to work in the extension of his kingdom. For example, God
used Timothy to pastor and lead the church at Ephesus when he was merely a young lad. 1 Timothy 4:12 says,
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct,
in love, in faith and in purity.”
Staying committed to Christ and Christian values is a challenge in these last days. It is important for the truth of
the gospel to be passed down from one generation to another generation in order for the body of Christ to thrive.
Helping the youth to grow spiritually from their formative and impressionable years will equip them to make an
impact in the lives of other people for Christ both now and in their future. e Conference aims at challenging
and encouraging our precious youth to be deep rooted in God’s Word so that they would not be deceived by any
other false ways of the world.
It is my sincere prayer that we would have many more opportunities like this to inspire and encourage each other.
Wishing all the blessings and success for the 2 nd National Youth Conference.
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are
young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in
conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.”

THE HOPE OF NEW ERA
Today’s world has emerged as a technology haven, where inventions and innovations
have become a culture. e advancement of technology in terms of communication,
science, medicine and education fields, to name a few has been meteoric. e modern
era being influenced by similar developments in the technological space, has also been subject to changing expectations
from people of different ages.
Kids who were happy with video games, are now behind games on smartphones. Writing letters, telegrams, faxes
have lost their relevance in modern world, with the arrival of emails, WhatsApp messaging, social media and so on.
e new era has witnessed changing cultural behaviours, changing political equations, social/ civic unrests and so
on. Views and expressions by individuals/ society carry a lot of weightage in deciding the peaceful atmosphere
around.
In a world transforming to a global village, youth have a special and effective role to play considering the changing
circumstances. e outlook towards issues/situations can change only with a youthful mind. e importance of
youth arises due to the influence, the age group can bring in a society. e influence comes in multiple ways like: -
Social Service
We have come across different features appearing in the news columns recently, where youngsters participate in supporting
orphanages, in blood donation camps, in cleaning drives and so on. e energy and values inherited/ imbibed
during childhood is a strong driving force for youth to take part in social service drives today. Service to mankind
is a culture which can be successfully taken forward by the age groups in younger age and the results it brings
to the society is immense. We have the examples of Mother Teresa and several others who have done service to society
in their younger ages.
Social Harmony
Mr. Koshy P omas
e political/social unrests in society have their root cause in the younger generations who are reactive to situations,
rather than being responsive.
“It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.” – Proverbs 20:3
12
Youth can play a special role by thinking before reacting and thereby bridging the
gaps between lesser and higher age groups. An act of forgiveness is not a failure
rather than a step forward to ensure harmony in society. Youth who believe in
the life of Jesus Christ as an example, will be able to respond rather than
react to situations. “When you REACT, you are giving away your power.
When you RESPOND you are staying in control of yourself.” - Bob Proctor
Harmony in society is the need of the hour, if attention should change to taking
forward our country to the next level of development. is means the focus of
the nation must move towards bridging the gap between haves and have nots,
and not towards resolving issues created by reactive behaviour(disharmony).
Social Media
Effective use of technology/ communication is possible with the youth of modern era, since they are exposed to
changing communication medium. Youth can use the social media to spread knowledge, right messages to create
harmony, motivate others, spread positivity and so on. e influence which youth can make here is immense.
People in the higher age groups (middle to retired) feel nostalgic when social media provides a platform to see the
good deeds of younger generation.
Social Values (Integrity)
A corrupt society would need living examples of non-corrupt behaviour. Youth have an opportunity to prove this,
by showing a behaviour of high moral values/ ethics and integrity. Zero tolerance towards corruption, demonstrated
by youth can have strong ripple effects in the modern era. We have seen many examples of leaders who practiced
high levels of integrity like Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and so on, right from their younger ages.
Social Change (Outlook)
e caste/ cultural differences in society can have a different outlook only through a changing generation, driven
by youth. Youth have a possibility to think with a fresh mind and see without prejudice towards social differences/
discriminations today. e attitude to see all, as human beings first and then other aspects second, requires a revolutionary
thought process which is possible only in the younger age. Contributions of ‘Babasaheb’ (Dr. B.R. Ambedkar)
can be an inspiration to think from a different perspective for the younger generation towards circumstances.
Social Pride
e success in education, sports and so on which has brought laurels to our nation is due to the younger generation.
e Rio Olympics 2016 success story by our sports talent (P.V. Sindhu & Sakshi Malik), has been an evidence of
the reputation brought by youth in our country. India as a nation can make inroads in the technology space, sports,
education and so on only through young minds. Let our youth be inspired with words from the book “Ignited
Minds” by our former President, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam: “As a young citizen of India, armed with technology and
love for my nation, I realize, a small aim is a crime...”
e role of a Christian youth in ensuring an era, with a generation of solid foundation (moral values) is very significant.
Jesus Christ has been a role model for the younger generations with His life as an example. Youth striving towards
playing a significant role in the modern era should exhibit a life: -
“AS A YOUNG CITIZEN OF INDIA, ARMED WITH TECHNOLOGY AND LOVE FOR MY NATION,
I REALIZE, A SMALL AIM IS A CRIME...”
13
Knowing the Creator
“Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the
evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say,
I have no pleasure in them;” - Ecclesiastes 12:1 It is important for
the youth to recall God's presence daily and seek to discover the greatness
of God. Remembering God means an individual must maintain a
constant relationship with God through prayer and meditating upon
God’s word. “I will instruct you and teach way which you should go;
I will counsel eye upon” – Psalms 32:8 Knowing the creator, youth
can get guidance to tread through the right paths in life.
Relying on the Word of God
May Your loving kindnesses also come to me, O LORD, Your salvation according to Your word; So I will have an
answer for him who reproaches me, For I trust in Your word... - Psalms 119: 41-47 Dependence on the word of
God is shown in this passage by the Psalmist. A man in his young age is supposed to have a strong dependence on
God’s word. It helps him to understand the differences between good and evil. In today’s world, the need of the
hour is to take right decisions. Right decisions are possible if a clear understanding of good and bad is known. “And
Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.” – Luke 2:52 Our Lord Jesus Christ gave first
priority to God and scriptures while he was young.
Let thy mercies come also unto me, O Lord, even thy salvation, according to thy word. So shall I have wherewith
to answer him that reproacheth me: for I trust in thy word. And take not the word of truth utterly out of
my mouth; for I have hoped in thy judgments. So shall I keep thy law continually for ever and ever. And I
will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts. I will speak of thy testimonies also before kings, and will not be
ashamed. And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved. Psalms 119:41-47
In old age, learning new things become a great difficulty and resistance to change becomes common. Motivation
levels are at its peak in youth compared to old age. Hence, it is the right time of life to come up with new ideas, question
the status quo and make this world a better place to live in. “I will work and sweat for a great vision, the vision
of transforming India into a developed nation, powered by economic strength with value system” – Dr. A.P.J. Abdul
Kalam – Let these words be a motto for the emerging youth. In a world, where change is the only constant, youth
alone is the hope of the new era. Youth through their life, thoughts and deeds can set the right foundations for
future generations. Knowing the Creator and relying on God’s word can help youth to influence the society positively
and create a society and era based on high values/ integrity.
14
GIVE YOUR BEST AND GOD WILL DO THE REST! GOD IS ALWAYS FAITHFUL IN HELPING US.
One of the things that God does expect from everyone is to give our best and then He will do the rest. But
what does God really mean when he says that we need to give our best?
e answer can be found in John 6:1-14. e disciples were faced with a situation where they
and Jesus are followed by a large crowd of five thousand people. e disciples did not have
enough money to buy food for the crowd. e disciple named Andrew said to Jesus that there
was a boy who had five loaves and two fishes and that is the best they could offer. Jesus took
the five loaves and two fishes and prayed to God the father that He would multiply them. Miraculously,
the five loaves and two fishes got multiplied into many loaves and fishes that was
more than enough to feed the five thousand people.
Mr. Ashwin omas
e shepherd boy named David from the Old Testament can be looked upon as someone who gave his best to God
and God did the rest. In 1 Samuel 17:41-52, we see that David defeated Goliath. David was very small in stature
when compared to Goliath and was not a military expert like Goliath. e only thing that David did was that he offered
his best to God and God was able to supernaturally use David’s abilities to defeat Goliath.
In Exodus 14:21-29, we see that Moses was able to perform a miracle when listened to God. Moses offered his best
and that is he just raised the staff in his right hand over the red sea just as God commanded and the sea was divided
into two. e Israelites were able to cross on dry land with the wall of sea on both sides and reach the other side
safely. By the time Pharaoh and his army tried to cross the sea, God stopped the division of the sea and it drowned
Pharaoh and his army in the sea.
Conclusion: We can henceforth conclude that God is able to help people who give their best to Him, if it’s in accordance
with God’s will. God is always faithful and He will never leave us nor forsake us.
Battle of Faith!
We fight a battle on a spiritual ground,
Faith is the weapon that won't let us down;
Our command comes from the Word of God,
e Holy Spirit gives us power to carry on.
Our Army leader is the Lord Jesus Christ,
He knows the secrets to win this fight;
Follow the Leader into the battle ground,
Satan's weapons cannot bring us down.

JOIN THE FIGHT AGANIST
HUMAN TRAFFICKING
Mr. Lino James
It is difficult to be exact about the number of people trafficked because it is a crime that is kept hidden. It is believed
that more than 1.5 million people are trafficked each year. e industry is said to be worth $57 billion annually.
rough it, human life is reduced to a commodity. is constitutes a tragedy of huge proportions for those who
become trapped.
It is important not to confuse trafficking with smuggling of people, which refers to procuring or facilitating the
illegal entry of people into another State for financial gain, usually using false documentation. Unlike people who
have been trafficked, those smuggled – once in the country – will normally be left free to make a new life as best
they can. e crime of trafficking in persons presents a great challenge to Christians everywhere.
e Christian commandment to provide comfort and justice to the most vulnerable in our society was vividly
taught by our savior Jesus Christ in the book of Matthew, Chapter 25, verses 34-40, when describing the final
judgement.
Human trafficking, specifically sex trafficking – the buying, selling, and enslaving of human beings for sex – is the
very antithesis of Jesus’ teaching. And so, it is our Christian duty to fight this sinister underground industry that has
grown dramatically in the world and traps our most vulnerable citizens in a cycle of drugs, sex, and violence.
Christians must take their heads out of the sand and face this challenge and abide by Christ’s teachings to take care
of the most vulnerable citizens among us, our young boys and girls, who are easy prey to the perverse and evil
modern-day slave traders. People of faith must join the fight to combat human trafficking!
17
e federal, state, and local legislative and law enforcement efforts to combat trafficking are successfully rescuing
thousands of victims and arresting and prosecuting traffickers. However, government and law enforcement actions
are not enough. Far too often, traffickers and victims go unnoticed in our own communities.
is must change, and Christians must do their part to protect life and innocence. We must be diligent in looking
for the signs of victims in our local neighborhoods, schools, shopping centers, parking lots and even our own
churches. We must look out for boys and girls and young women and teenagers who we know or maybe recently have
come into contact with those who display signs of physical abuse, hyper-sexuality, new and expensive clothing,
sudden bouts of depression, unexplained absences from normal activities including school and church, older
boyfriends, and new tattoos (including tattoos of names and/or symbols, and gang affiliations).
As Christians and citizens active in our community, we will most likely come across traffickers themselves and might
even know someone engaged in the crime, and we must remain diligent as we become more aware of those signs as
well. e signs include: men and women who are significantly older than their young companions and who react to
normal interactions with jealousy and violence; adults who promise and sometimes deliver wealth and expensive gifts
to young people; someone who is vague about their profession; and adults who encourage their younger companions
to engage in illegal activities and inappropriate sexual behavior.
e offence of sex trafficking is primarily an offence against the image of God expressed in the faces, bodies and
relationships of hundreds of thousands of women, children and men across our world today. It is to refuse the sister
in the woman who is deceived into this world of sexual abuse, the mother in the one sold on from trafficker to
trafficker, pimp to pimp, the daughter in the beautiful woman who is beaten into submission and raped several times
each day in each act of non-consensual sex. It is to refuse the theological meaning of what sex expresses beyond the
reductionism of reproduction, that of profound consensual joy in the giving and receiving of each other’s body for
warmth, comfort, transcendence and joy. And wherever that denial, and the denial of the voices of those who
currently are, or have been in the process of becoming victims of this global trade we must raise our cry of
lamentation and resistance.
Cultures which accept the inevitability of prostitution are deeply implicated in the crimes of trafficking particularly
in the expansion of the markets into which traffickers can penetrate. It is time for the churches to turn their attention
seriously to the many interventions which are required to turn the tide on trafficking, in countries of source, demand,
transit and recovery, and to explore their own practices in terms of the dignity, equality and inviolability of each
human being they welcome into their worlds, at organisational, pastoral and ecclesiological levels. e conversation
could lead to some dramatic changes in ecclesial practice and attitudes. Traffickers and those who buy women and
children for sexual pleasure require words of judgement, and those sold need the words of liberation, but most of all
the world needs a new culture of respect, mutuality and equality, of which the church is called to be a harbinger.
e time for tough conversations has started, but resources are to hand and the urgency and levels of current abuse
make delay inconceivable. By responding at all levels, theologically, politically, economically and socially, churches
can make a powerful difference. e power for transformation is not lost in our time, merely resting.
St. James Church, Borivali
The offence of sex trafficking is primarily an
offence against the image of God expressed in the
faces, bodies and relationships of hundreds of
thousands of women, children and men across
our world today.

I TAKE
Charge
of my life
Ms. Merlyn Leny Vaidyan
e new generation is awestruck by the fascinating, glamorous world, searching for shortcuts and smart cut to
survive the pressure and pleasure of life. No doubt, these days Parenting is the most challenging job. Yes, it's a job
without proper law and order. Parents are bewildered before their children in the name of the generation gap. At
times it harnesses proper thinking and ruins the manner of gradual development of a child.
e ‘Never give up ‘slogans are prominent and more spoken off. Motivation and boosting is often needed.
Psychological and physiological problems embark. ey scale their life to two extremes either to the top or to the
bottom. Emotional intelligence is nil. Everyone is getting carried away. Fear of failure, fear of rejection is haunting
many hearts.ere I urge everyone to understand that they should learn to Take Charge of their life.
ey need to learn facing Challenges by Hardworking, being Ambitious by Respecting everything they have,
considering own life as a Gift from God and showing their Excellence. (CHARGE)
Failure I refer is a ‘Tunnel time’. Entering into a tunnel and the darkness as we encounter, we are stumbled,
confused and the option we find is to return i: e to give up. One moment we close our eyes in prayer and patience
we suddenly realise a way to pass through. We convince our mind to face the challenge and recuperate. I think we
need to believe that every failure is God’s verdict which forcibly changes your pathway to the right one which we
are destined for. We are all believers of God. But due to lack of real faith when we are tested at times, we fail. We
face hindrances and intrusion. Distraction prevail and there is the victory of evil over good.
Holy spirit and divine Wisdom can lead us through such a situation. Parents can train children to take small
challenges and allow them to fail. If they agonize to fail, they will always fear to take up challenges. Train them to
suffer and be patient for their needs. Fulfil what is needed not all what they desire. Even God Almighty do not fulfill
all our desires. He chooses the right time and provides us with what is needed.
In Colossians 3:17 it says ...” And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving
thanks to God and the Father by him.
Every child should remember that it's God’s plan and justify with what God is asking them to do. Big dream is not
enough, rather we need to inculcate the habit of hardworking, growing gradually with steadfast steps toward goal
in life but respect the world God has given them. Take all responsibility to strive through and touch the sky of their
dreams and accomplishments. World needs new, natural shining stars who can light up this world with the grace of
Almighty's blessing.
Challenges by Hardworking, being Ambitious by Respecting
everything they have, considering own life as a Gift from God
and showing their Excellence.

SPACE EXPLORATION
OVER CLIMATE CHANGE?
It is of no surprise that the amount of money spent on space research and
exploration is in the billions. However, over the years, the exploration of
space has obtained extraordinary results which could have come about by
other means of improved technology anyway. As ignorant as it looks, it is
hard to deny the fact that global warming is, in fact, real and the earth is
facing impending catastrophe. ese include not only climate change but also
the disappearance of the rainforest, ocean pollution and the desertification of
areas, about the size of England, each year. However, we tend more to care for exploring
space than to save our planet. Hence, it would be obvious to say and believe
that, as humans, we are incredibly obsessed with the economic crises more
than the global disasters coming to the planet.
Having lived in Australia for approximately three years now, and contributed to
two space exploration projects under NASA (climate change research and designing
CUBESAT for NASA's 2025 Europa Mission), I have had the time to consider space exploration
nothing but a gross waste of time, effort and money. With proper management of
utilities we have today, we could use the same resources to save the planet, thus eliminating the
thought for human settlement outside planet earth in the first place. We don't see it, but history
has been clear evidence of civilisations falling by over-exploiting their environment. For example,
the Maya civilisation collapsed in about 900 AD after they over-exploited their environment
and made efforts for space exploration.
Mr. Lenin Jacob
History books suggest that any civilisation will collapse after 500 years, before which there will be
massive cities, where people will be living in the suburbs but operating in the city. Inarguably though our
terrible selfishness for development leads to the extinction of an entire culture. is change in our priorities is precisely
what we are experiencing today. We are overlooking the disastrous effect of climate change, drought, warfare and
famine and investing our capitals into exploring space. If, for instance, the collapse of a civilisation is a recurrent pattern,
then as humans, we must be looking at ways of managing our planet's resources in establishing a sustainable
living, before we collapse. We cannot achieve sustainability by charging off into space or by wasting an unbelievable
amount of money in pursuit of some chimera that ‘might’ come back with some valuable mineral for the human race.
Over the last 65 years, researches have proved that climate management is possible by seeding clouds. “Cloud seeding
is a type of weather modification that aims to change the amount or type of precipitation that falls from clouds by dispersing
substances into the air that serve as cloud condensation or ice nuclei, which alter the microphysical processes
within the cloud.” is means that we can make it rain when we want it to rain. e Chinese and the Russians have
been doing it for some years now. For example, China performed cloud seeding to prevent rains during the opening
and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics. Similarly, it never rains on the Victory Day Parade in Russia(cloud
seeding, again!).
In conclusion, we have the technology to save life on our planet today, but we tend to invest our resources in exploring
life outside our planet. I firmly believe we should devote these massive resources into saving our life on this planet, and
take technology like cloud seeding from the military into the civilian world. ink about it. We are investing billions
of dollars each year into space exploration, whose results we wouldn't know until at least 200 years from now. What
if in these 200 years, we over-exploited the environment and collapsed as a civilisation? What if our planet ran out of
resources and we extinct? Will the money invested in space exploration be of any benefit without a single life remaining
on earth to witness it? However, on the other hand, if we spend the capital we have today into the hands of climatologists,
we could produce lasting benefits for humankind by reversing the effects of climate change and global warming,
thus extending the life of our planet for the coming generations. Space exploration is not bad science; it is just a
waste of time and money, given the immediate attention our planet needs right now.

Faith’s
unknown battLeground
Mr. T. Kuruvilla
When I thought of writing this article, the word “MI-
NORITIES" came to my mind. In our case, we the Christians
are minority in our country. Fighting for the rights
of the community is the real battle since long and very
fierce now. We certainly must not have the way of Jesus
who neither adopted violence as a strategy, nor countenanced
it among His disciples. But he never hesitated to
asked" can any of you prove me guilty of sin?". When he
was on trial on trumped up charges, He knew that it
would be nothing but mockery of Justice. He openly
asked the rulers why they question Him. While giving certain
defiant answers He was slapped. Jesus no doubt did
not rise up in arms to fight the injustice but neither would
he allow them the luxury of an untroubled conscience by
letting the injustice go unchallenged. He did then was to
engage in “law talk".
We all have faith in our religion and in it's doctrine. e
total freedom to practice our faith within a specific framework
is the real necessity for which we are closely linked
with the Constitution of our land in which “Fundamental
Rights" are clearly outlined. e word fundamental is
a loaded one. It implies that the given rights are basic, essential
and foundational. While following, implementing
the teachings of our Lord, all those involved are forced to
21
safeguard the liberty of the human spirit against the involvement
of “other forces".
All those who are in the ministry of the Lord are directly
or indirectly discriminated on the basis of religion. His servants
are to confront many hurdles to keep the constitutional
agreement on the freedom of speech, assembly, association,
movement, residence and occupation in addition
to protection of life and personal liberty. Hostility is inevitable
when we follow Jesus.
Many religious groups may oppose us. We ourselves will
be blamed. We the Christians have the assurance that
God is in control of everything. He says "I AM WHO I
AM". He is constant. Does not give up on us. Does not
desert us. Another fact is the "CROSS". It has been under
stood in many ways. Some people think of it as a Christian
symbol. As such it has only ornamental value. It is
placed on top of the worship places or worn as a pentagon
a chain. Others think of their little sins such as bad
temper. Someone suffering from chronic illness mention
it as a cross.
I AM WHO I AM
Whatever may be, we are to carry on with the cross with honour because the cross is what the world confers us for
being Christians. at is why we cannot avoid taking up the cross if we are followers of Christ. e killing of Graham
Stained and his two minor sons is an ample example of the trials and tribulations of faithful to confront at the unknown
battle grounds. Soldiers of Christ are subjected to ideology, hate and suppression. To stay on, Jesus has given
us clear guidance. Jesus said," you have heard that it was said Eye for eye, tooth for tooth. But I tell you, do not resist
an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other cheek also and added love your enemies and
pray for those who persecute you." at is how and why Glady Staines' declaration of forgiveness came as a fresh evidence
of Christian's experience in the battle grounds which are unknown to others.
Faith's another battle is on the right to propagate. Anything we do is based/according to the freedom of conscience.
ere should not be any discrimination against the minorities as they have the constitutional assurance concerning
to equality, profession, practice and propagation of religion. ere are many who have fallen on the line of their duty
while “preaching and propagating". Constitution assured the freedom of speech and therefore permits the persuasion
of others to join ones religion. erefore, the practice and propagation of our religion is well within the Constitution.
e foremost attack the soldiers of Christ have to face is "CONVERSIONS". ere is a religion bill in place. e apprehensions
about the conversions have never faded. From time to time they would surface. Some Catechists and
priests were prosecuted. Cases were filed. Finally the judgement was "THE RELIGIOUS DUTY OF EVERY
CHRISTIAN IS TO PROPAGATE HIS RELIGION”. ere are many legal documents endorse that the servants
of God have been recognized, and the works they carryout are according to the Bible teachings. To sum-up “we must
obey God rather than man".
e rationale for having minority rights is that the minorities need protection much like an endangered species. Without
protection they would swamped by the majority backed by political parties, hard core elements and the like
forces. ese forces are hell bent to tarnish the image and identity of the minorities. Unfortunately, majority group
and its associates are safe as they represent in the government, judiciary and the bureaucratic quarters as well as private
and public enterprises. Today, the battleground is spilled with dirt. e ground can be cleaned and used only if
the faithful have the total dependence on God. ey have to extract the strength and stamina to fight for the glory
of God. Lord asked us to go out and preach. During the course of our stay in the battleground, the lesson we need
to learn is, we cannot force the pace of evangelization.. Our task is to simply love one another. It is based on Gods
guidance. It is the character of love to bear everything, endure everything. In the end, all that matters and endures
are “faith, hope and love............but the greatest is love.”
Faith’s Unknown Battleground will never diminish.
And now these three remain:
Faith, Hope & Love
But the greatest of these is Love

Shepherding : (Go)spelling
AGAINST THE CURRENTS
Introduction
e Church as a journeying community travels a long
distance and offers a new heaven and earth. By saying so,
we should keep in mind that, we are affirming the
human agency behind the new heaven and earth along
with the divine anticipation. Being a channel of change
the church always plays a role of corrective force, which
prompts us to dream for this new heaven and earth. It is
in this context, as sojourners of faith the shepherding
role should be reexamined constructively, critically,
and contextually with the lens of suspicion.
Rev. Aby K omas
In John 21:15-19, Peter is being encountered by the risen Jesus. Here
Jesus is commissioning Peter for the leadership. e metaphor Shepherding
comes from the Old Testament time, where the community
submits its hope to the leader and trusts in them whether they are
Judges, kings or the prophets, often resembles to involve ruling, subordinating
the sheep. It is in this milieu, we need to relook the very
essence of shepherding.
Shepherd: A Call to Encounter the Wolves of the Time
e Shepherding is not a saving missionary activity, but it is
an effort encountering the dominant order and power. Ched
Myers an American theologian specialist in biblical studies
and political theology rightly puts it, “that the term ‘fishers
of men’ does not refer to missionary activity, it is not an
activity of ‘saving souls’, but rather it refers an effort to
overturn the existing order of power and privilege”. is
we can see in several Biblical characters. For example,
Moses found his calling not at the Pharaoh’s palace or
in Egypt, but in Midian, not from the center but
from the periphery. Why God did not call a prince
Moses, but a shepherd Moses? It was not a call
from the power center, but from the powerless
margin. If he would have use the dominant power, and then the whole history of Israel would have changed in
another way. He did not use the power of the palace, he did not use his relationship from his elite locale, he did not
use the comfort of his life and he did not use the caste card for the liberation and emancipation of the Israelite
community. If he would have used his power politics, negotiation was possible, the adjustment was possible, and
mediation was possible. e leadership that Israelite experienced comes from a person who doesn’t have any
address, it has come from a person who led the life with the sheep, and it has come from uncomforted social setting,
it is not coming from the palace, bishop house or not from any other comfort zone, but from the outskirt of the
society. When Moses said, ‘let my people go’, it was not a spoon feeding and the tamed pastoral voice rather a word
from a courageous shepherd who was representing the power of the powerless people, and later he was leading the
Israelites into the dangerous realities of the desert.
23
As a German New Testament scholar Joachim Jeremias rightly puts it “shepherd’s life in Israel was despised with
stereotypical victimhood, they are the people who are not allowed to come closer to the holiness of the Israelites
spirituality, they are the wandering deserted community, a second class citizen, socially unacceptable category, and
they were technically recorded as sinners”. erefore, the shepherds are considered as malignant and the people of
displaced. Jesus was reestablishing the imagery of the shepherd, questioning the authority, and the power;
dismantling the perception of the unjust society. Jesus was reclaiming the soul legacy of shepherding of resistance.
He called his disciple from the outskirts of the society, people who did not have ‘traditional moorings’, people who
did not have any importance in the ‘temple culture’, people who are ‘outspoken’, and people who are termed as the
‘so-called sinners’. But they were all courageous enough to dare the order. erefore, Jesus is expecting such a
leadership quality from Peter, encounter the dominant order.
In most of our theological endeavors we are freezing out these marginalized people, somewhere in the backyard, and
we are running after the wise men, shining star, virgin birth, cool breeze, praises of angels so on and so forth. But
we need to remember that, it is through these shepherds, the whole world move up and down. Have we ever
considered these shepherds valuable in the whole process of ‘Gospelling’ of the Good news? Why aren’t we ashamed
to neglect the role of these sidelined people who are faithful and courageous in developing a bold community to
encountering the wolves of our time? is will lead us to the further discussion of shepherding.
Shepherd: A Call for Unveiling the Sacrificiality Model of Shepherding
Pope Francis said “shepherds have to live with the smell of the sheep, so that people can sense that priest”. It is not
the incense, not the perfume, not the smell of the currency, but it is the “smell of the sheep” which makes you a
good shepherd.
Peter in his first letter is writing “a pastor is called to feed the flock of God, taking the oversight thereof as a shepherd,
not as Lord, either in act or in the title but as an example to the flock (I Peter. 5: 2, 3). e Petrine church is
demanding the ‘sacrificiality’ of the shepherd. is is what Johannine community is also dealing with. e
Johannine community had read Jesus as a Sacrificial Shepherd who has come from God the almighty. is
Johannine Model of Shepherd was accusing the institutional shepherds, who were an elite minority benefiting their
life, discarding the justice of the majority, who were running away from the said characteristic of shepherding,
leading the flock to liberation, who were neglected the public office of comforting, strengthening, and healing the
weak and troublesome. erefore the Johannine Jesus is saying ‘all who have come before me are thieves and bandits,
but I am the good shepherd, the good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep,’ (John.10:8, 11).
It is in this sense, the whole idea of sacrificing shepherding needs to be reviewed. e author is elevating the aspect
of love as ‘commitment’ and enthroning ‘sacrificial love’ as the perfect model of shepherding. e phrase ‘feed my
sheep’ (boske ta probatia) indicates that Jesus expects a leadership from Peter which is similar what Jesus had shown
to the disciple. Jesus challenged the spiritual commercialization, he bravely provoked the deformed temple priest, he
confronted the fraudulent political leaders, and he courageously walked into the valley of homicide.
24
e words like ‘agape’ and ‘philio’ has to be reread contextually. It is not ‘agape’, which is friendship rather, it is
‘philio’ or sacrificing love which Jesus demands from Peter. Whenever we encounter this phrase sacrificial love, we
always tend to think that it is a way of love which demands sacrifice. is is how the ordained ministry is shaped.
is is a dominant model of shepherding. How can we talk this in the Indian ecclesiological context, in which the
Dalits, the adivasis and the tribal’s who are already being sacrificed their lives for the sake of the Gospel. It is unfair,
peaching this model before my brethren who lost everything.
For me ‘tending the sheep’ cannot be concealed with the normal nostalgic understanding of ‘sacrificing love’. is
sacrificial model expects a submissive, obedient, and surrendering shepherding. On this submissiveness the
shepherds are exploiting the sheep in the form of corruption and sexual abuse, catching sheep with episcopal staff,
smashing out the poor sheep with the disciplinary action, mutating sheep by giving them piecemeal, sterilizing the
sheep offering seat in the executive committee and so on. Sheep become more ‘Sheepy’, feeling embarrassed about
their sheepishness, literally looking for a Messiah from the elite locale to intervene in their bitter experience of
ecclesiological life. is was not the model of Jesus’ sacrificial love. Jesus’ sacrificial love was to encounter the
dominant power structure. is prompts us to dare the order in ‘tending the sheep’. erefore, in Indian context, a
shepherd has to equip the congregation to unmask the dominant model of shepherding and he/she should get away
from the cliché of shepherding, what we called ‘sacrificial love’ or ‘sacrificial shepherding’. We don’t need any
submissiveness shepherding, but an ‘encountering shepherding’, which will reclaim the human agency for
countering the masked shepherding.
Conclusion
E.M. Forster said, “ pastors, we are all naked beneath our shirts, we are all naked human beings beneath the uniform,
just human, feeble, and capable, It is only the grace of God in Christ make us different”. Every generation needs its
shepherds because the news they bring might turn everything right side up. ey ask uncomfortable questions, and
speak the unspeakable secrets. ey encounter the power and they are good alternatives against the dominant
sacrificial shepherding model. Martin Luther King Jr was one of such alternative model, who bravely lead the civil
rights movement in America. Unless and until we come out of our comfort zones, and identify with the people the
liberation will not be possible. erefore, be courageous in our effort to encounter the dominant power. Let us
realize the wolves of the time. Let us not use or misuse the sheepishness of our sheep. Let us make sure that we will
not be masking our pastoral journey. Let us (go)spell against the current. Amen.

Faithless Christian:
A Paradox and an Oxymoron
Greetings to you all in the incomparable
name of our LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ!
I praise God Almighty for giving all of us this privilege to be part of
this year’s CSI National Youth Conference held in Hyderabad. We all
should consider it a huge blessing to be part of a believing community
in this great nation of India and have the opportunity to build a fellowship
with each other and grow together in Christ. I thank God
for a very relevant theme for the National Youth Conference
2019—Faith.
We are all part of a global village made possible by numerous technological
advances such as the internet and mobile phones. It is amazing
to see the possibilities it has opened and yet mankind, being
sinful by nature, have allowed it to control and realign faith from the
Creator to the creation. If satan is capable of using even God’s word
to doubt our faith (Genesis 3:1-5; Matthew 4:1-17), then using science
& technology, money, entertainment, education, career, doctriwould
be a cakewalk for him. at is why apostle Paul, in his letter
to the Church at Ephesus, writes “For our struggle is not against flesh
and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the
powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in
the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians 6:12)
Nominal and pretend Christians is the biggest challenge that the Gospel of Jesus Christ faces today. Many so-called
Christians are not able to be the salt and light of the world. “ey claim to know God, but by their actions they
deny him. ey are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good” (Titus 1:16). We did not take heed
of God’s warning when he said “…sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it”
(Genesis 4:7). “erefore,” Paul continues, “put on the full armour of God… take up the shield of FAITH, with
which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one” (Ephesians 6:13-16).
For a born-again believer, faith is an integral part of salvation—the free gift of God by grace. e challenges of this
world will become greater and greater because “Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those
who don’t believe” (2 Corinthians 4:4). But there is Hope in Jesus and he said, “Here on earth you will have many
trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).
It is high time that we re-examine ourselves, our relationship with Jesus, and our faith in Him. It is a serious matter
of where we’ll spend our eternity. I pray and hope that God speaks to all of us during this conference and help us introspect
the true status of our faith to make necessary radical changes in our lives with the help of the Holy Spirit
and become purposeful Christians, working for God’s kingdom.

JHABUA MISSION
It is a pleasure to inform that the St. James CSI Church, Bhopal started a Mission field in Jhabua
district of Madhya Pradesh since April 2019. is was a SilverJubilee project, planned in October
2016. People from Central Kerala who came and settled in Bhopal started the Church and they
were engaged in intense prayer in deep faith to start this Mission field. Jhabua is one of the most
backward districts In M.P. which is about 400 kms from Bhopal, bordering Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Out of the 10 lakh populations in the district, 60% of people are from Gond, Bhil, Baig and Kork
tribes. ey live in about 650 villages, scattered all over the district. e basic problems being faced
by the people are water scarcity, illiteracy, liquor addiction, joblessness and exploitation by the high
castes/classes of society.
One of the youngsters from this district, which is backward in education and healthcare, accepted
Jesus Christ as his Savior Lord. While working in Bengaluru in some job, he deeply felt the need to
work among his people. us, he left his job and decided to work as a Missionary in Jhabua. Deep
Singh, the young Missionary, was compelled to believe that in the Word of God there is solution for
the problems of his tribal people. At present, he is working in the midst of little children at places
like Bedavalli, Dudaka, Attarwalia, Khosalia, Navapada and Dhanya. ere are about 5 Tuition Centers
in which about 200 children get tuition in evening classes. Apart from Missionary, two youngsters
also help Deep Singh as teachers along with few local youths. In the month of May, teaching material
for students, two used Computers (for computer education) and one Motor bike for the use of
the Missionary were also provided. All these works are going on with the help and support of the faithful
in the Church as well as few well-wishers. ere is a 10 member Mission Committee to co-ordinate
the works of the Mission. Prayers of all the faithful are requested.

PARKAL MISSION
HISTORY
e commemoration of the Advent of C.M.S Missionaries to Kerala on 1916 paved way to extent the mission of
God beyond culture language and region. e God’s call to Parkal through the Rt. Rev. V. S. Assariah, the then
Bishop of Dornakal Diocese channelled the birth of Parkal mission. e Bishop challenged and made a call to the
gathering to spread the light beyond the boundaries and asked, who will go to Parkal….? ”A committed young
man named K.E. Eapen dedicated himself and wrote with his blood by cutting his finger that ,”I am ready to go
to Parkal. February 24, 1924, K.E. Eapen (Kannattusseril House, Kanjikuzhy) reached in a small village called Katrapally
the CSI PARKAL MISSION was born. e ardent commitment and selfless sacrificial efforts of the pioneer
missionaries, lay missionaries, sisters and boundless support of CSI Madhya Kerala Diocese made this mission
to extent the love of God throughout the last 95 years.
Once Parkal was a brightened, remote and miserably backward village, where the people, untouched by modern
civilization, where routing under nauseatingly poor conditions in life. ey were living in superstitions, believing
in the village Gods, sorcerers and occultists who practice witch–craft. But today there are many Christians in
Parkal living in light of Christ. Many more are being attracted to the enriching influence of Christianity.

To commit efforts of our missionaries and evangelist to spread gospel even to the remote villages have been fruitful
and God has graciously helped to establish fellowship groups to churches.
TEACHING MINISTRY
Marginalised and shut out from the mainstream of the society, hundreds of poor children in the interior villages of
Telangana are deprived of even elementary education.
More over extreme poverty forces these children to pursue some menial jobs to help their parents make a living. In

SHALOM MUMBAI MISSION
In the book of Luke, Jesus asks “Which of these do you think was a neighbour to the man
who fell into the hands of robbers?” e expert in the law replied, “e one who had mercy
on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
As Indian citizens of the largest democracy in the world, we have been granted rights and
freedoms that allow us to live with dignity, acknowledging that each and every individual deserves to be
treated fairly and equally regardless of race, caste, religion and gender. Along with enjoying these rights, it
is our bounded duty to ensure that everyone around us also avail of these privileges.
Shalom Mumbai Mission, an urban mission, was conceived with this intention- with a vision to rescue
and rehabilitate our sexually exploited sisters from the red light areas of Kamathipura, create awareness in
them about freedom and liberty, and ensuring their rights to lead a life of dignity. ough a vast majority
of them are in the situation out of compulsion, the abhorrence of the society towards them pushes them
into a traumatic existence. Shalom Mumbai Mission has been working towards the betterment of these
women who have been mentally and physically tortured under the million dollar sex trafficking industry.
Our mission statement states “We affirm our responsibility to uplift the life of our sisters victimized in the
Red light areas of Mumbai city to freedom, liberty, human dignity and equality by creating awareness in the
minds of the victims and among the members of the society and guarantee them a new life by providing shelter,
education, vocational training, moral and social counselling”.
Shalom Mission works for the rehabilitation of the victims of human trafficking on 3 levels - Rejuvenation,
Reintegration and rehabilitation. ese are the pillars of our mission.
REJUVENATION:
e victims face severe physical and psychological trauma. ough counselling sessions are held to instill
a desire in them to lead a life of dignity, social acceptance is most needed to assimilate them into
the mainstream culture. To help them feel socially secure, we have opened the gates of our churches.
We continue to supply medical and rescue kits to the rescued victims through IJM. Every year we conducted
Christmas programme at several juvenile homes and women shelter home in Mumbai.
REINTEGRATION:
Reintegration is the process of re-uniting the victims with their families. One of the crucial steps of
our mission is the process of reintegration. With the grace of God, on 26th May 2019, this year we
were able to reunite two women - aged 19 and 26, (the older a mother to a three-month-old) - with
their families in Mumbai. ey were rescued from a brothel center in Chennai under the leadership
of MCCSS. We pray that they live a blessed and fruitful life in future. In the last 4years 10 girls
reached home from brothel centers to their own house or relatives through Shalom Missions reintegration
programme.
REHABILITATION- SHANTI NIWAS:
Rehabilitation is the action of restoring them to normal life through training and therapy. Radiant Assembly
God Church and Shalom Mission jointly run Shanti Niwas, a rehabilitation centre that works
for the upliftment of rescued workers. e centre currently rehabilitates 12 girls. ey are given moral
counselling and are being empowered through education and employment so that they can lead a financially
independent life. Out of these 12, Shalom Mission has adopted 4 girls who are being given education
and vocational training incurring a monthly expense of Rs. 60,000/. Two of them have passed +2
and after completing a course on Housekeeping, are working at a 5 Star Hotel in Mumbai.
41
SHALOM NIWAS REHABILITATION CENTRE:
Shalom Mission has opened its own rehabilitation centre, Shalom Niwas at Vangani. e house is
being renovated and its premises are being done. e compound wall is nearing completion. Once
the necessary permissions are obtained, Shalom Mission can start its own rehabilitation centre. e
centre can be used to rehabilitate up to 8 girls. We have appointed Mrs Sheetal & Mr. Rahul Bhimrao
Gholap as house parents of the girls. A helper is also appointed to ensure the well being and safety
of the girls.
SHALOM MISSION CENTRE, TITWALA:
Since the conception of our Mission, it has been our ambition that the mission has its own center. As
the first step in realizing this dream, we have purchased 5.40 acres of land and have registered it under
Shalom Charitable Trust. We also secured the area by building a compound wall and gate. We conducted
a anksgiving service in St. Christopher Church, Kalyan on March 3rd followed by a dedication
service in Titwala. It was a great privilege for us to have the CSI Madhya Kerala Diocesan Treasurer
Rev. omas Paikad and North Indian Mission Coordinator Rev. Raju Jacob lead the services. We
extend our sincere gratitude to all the Achens from the Mumbai-Pune churches who attended the service.
We are also extremely thankful to all those who aided the mission and pray that God bless you
abundantly. Our development work for the Mission Center is still in progress. e Foundation Stone
Laying ceremony of our Project Office and Caretaker’s House was conducted on April 13th 9.30 am.
Sixty people and the Achens from the partner churches attended the occasion.
We have received the Pre requisite NOC from Gram Panchayat for converting agricultural land to NA
and also for electric power connection. Subsequently, 7.5 KW power connections has been sanctioned
by MSEB. e installation of electric poles and lying of electrical lines are in progress. Borewell was dug
up to a depth of 367 ft and sufficient water was found. Now the pipes and pumps need to be installed.
CWC ULHASNAGAR:
e Child Welfare Court (CWC) in Ulhas Nagar that we aided in renovating was inaugurated in the presence
of distinguished guests on April 10th. Shri. Ravi Patil, the Deputy Commissioner of Women and
Child Development Department, Govt. of Maharashtra, has extended his support to our venture. Of the
8.5 lakh spent in renovating the CWC, 4 lakhs was crowdfunded through IJM. is court aims to cater
to the physical and mental development of the children who approach the CWC center.
SPECIAL HOME FOR MINORS, DEONAR:
Shalom Mission took the initiative to modify the Special Home for Minors in Deonar in association with
the society and dedicated to the Maharashtra Government on 24.06.2019. e renovated shelter home
for rescued minors was inaugurated by the DWCD Commissioner (Dept. of Women and Child Development)
Dr. Hrishikesh Yashod, in the presence of other government dignitaries, NGO and Shalom representatives
and IJM. e girls are brought here immediately post their rescue. Hopefully, their safety and future
will be ensured here so that they can lead normal lives.
NAV JEEVAN MAJOR SHELTER HOME, CHEMBUR:
One of the most prominent shelter homes in Mumbai is Navjeevan Shelter Home, Chembur. It can accommodate
more than 150 victims. 3 years ago, Shalom had started giving skilltraining program in tailoring for
the women residing in the Shelter Home. We are currently planning to undertake a new project of stitching
shopping bags with the support and participation of the society. We have placed an order of 1200 bags. Each
bag is priced at Rs.500. It is our responsibility to sell 100 bags each in our churches as a show of support to
these women. We are obliged to help them restore their lives and lead it with integrity. We expect all of you
to be a part of this venture.
42
For all these accomplishments, we thank God and express our sincere gratitude to all those who kept
the mission in their prayers and extended continuous support. Especially we owe to Most. Rev. omas
K Oommen, Moderator, Church of South India, MKD Offices, Mrs. Susan omas, President, Women’s
Fellowship of CSI, Women’s Fellowship of MKD.
We sincerely thank you and value your support to Shalom Mumbai Mission!

ODISHA MISSION
Mission in Odisha was a project commenced at the of Bi-Centenerary celebration of CSI Madhya
Kerala Diocese. We received a piece of land, in Titlagarh, which is a part of Bolangir district. In the
year 2013, Rev. Biju Eapen, was put in charge to commence the Missions. When we started this
missions, we have also encountered many hindrances from localities.
When we hear the name Odisha, the first thing that come to our mind, the death of Rev.Graham
staines and his two little children which were charred to death, and the incident happened in
Khondhomal district, where the violence erupted in the year 2012. ese instances were not a stumbling
block to missions in Odisha. Infact, the blood of a martyr is the seed of the church is really witnessing
in this state.
e place where we are located is one of the hottest place in India. Even though we say we are advanced
in many areas, still we find caste systems prevails. Necromancy and witchcraft are religiously
followed even today. Differences in caste leads them to separation of people in the villages. People are
leaving below poverty, adequate job creation, lack of good hospitals, lack of good educational institutions
and children not send to school are the social problems over the years we have noticed.
People who come forward by accepting Christ, will be considered as an outcast. ey are denied the
rights from Governmental organizations, and hence subsidy is denied. Still in the midst of any difficulty
they stand in faith as a testimony for the living God, and not denying their faith.
Now, under the leadership of six Missionaries, we are covering 38 villages. Our Missionaries are challenged
every day in the field. We are conducting Sunday worship, Friday fasting prayers, Cottage
prayer, Sunday school, Open Air Meeting, Visiting the Believers residence and praying with them are
our work on a regular basis.
Currently 130 families have come as our members, 1200 plus believers have come forward through
our work in these mission field.
As a social service to the society, we have started Tuition centers in these villages and more than 200
children’s are attending the classes. e children in these villages are not able to read and write.
44
Our Mission understood the difficulty they are facing and hence we teach them and bring in them the
knowledge of reading and writing. Every year we are giving notebooks and study materials to our students
free of cost.
Creation of Job : To find their own livelihood, we started to equip them with some technical knowhow. A
Tailoring Project was commenced with a view to equip ladies to stand on their own, and in four villages this
classes is conducted. e students who completed the course, were able to find Job and are sustaining by
themselves.
Church : We have two churches in our Villages. Every Sunday we conduct worship in these villages. In Mission
centre, the first Sunday all believers including all missionaries assemble for Sunday worship, with a fellowship
lunch the believers depart.
Community College : For the under privileged children in villages, community college is under construction
in our Mission Centre. e Primary Motive of this is to start Electrical, Computer and Tailoring classes and
Day Care Centre
Mission – umudibondha : We have also started a new mission in a remote village in Khondhomal district,
and we have adopted four missionaries from this tribal village. e work is in progress, and Church Planting
is the motive behind this missions.
Bible Training : Missionaries are trained in Bible every year. By this our missionaries are equipped with handling
Bible difficulties apologetically. is provides a great confidence for their faith and in practical Missions.
e Odisha Mission is truly built up on the Great Commission of Christ. Our Focus is on winning Souls for
His Kingdom.
e expected expenses incur for the following other activities
1. Sponsoring a Missionary for One Month (6500/-)
2. Sponsoring Tuition Masters for One Month (2000/-)

of our Lord.
FOLLOWING ARE OUR MISSION WORKS:

NEW HORIZONS OF THE GOSPEL
God has blessed and helped us to pioneer a work in a remote village of Chutmalpur, which is
around 100kms from Premnagar and is situated in the Dehradun-Uttarpradesh border. Presently
we have around 250 members gathering in three centres of Chutmalpur. None of the villagers are
baptised, yet they come and attend the prayer meetings. We also see the doors opening for mission
work in Uttarkashi (ca. 150km from Premnagar) and Rudraprayag (ca. 190km from Premnagar).
Mission has been commissioned to us by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. We are all partners in
the global mission of the Church in one way or the other. We are very grateful for all your prayers
and support towards this mission. We have also been blessed by the guidance and leadership that we
ave received from the mission board and at the same time, we thank Most Rev. omas K Oommen
(Bishop, MKD). In order to move on with our mission here in Uttarakhand, we are in desperate
need of at least Rs. 80,000/- per month. is amount goes for the room rents and salaries of our
teachers who loyally work with us in this mission and other requirements as well, that has been mentioned
above.
We know and read in the Word of God that the Church stood as one when the mission was in need.
We earnestly request for your prayers as well as financial support towards this mission. If we can stand
as one, we can be assured that we can bring great changes to the communities that we live in. I whole
heartedly pray that our Lord will bless you and your generations for the kind support that you extend.
Let us strive to work together in the Kingdom of God. Time It Now, Before It Is Too Late. May God
Bless You.
In His Service,

UTTAR PRADESH MISSION
Greetings to you in the matchless name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
With the prayers and support of believers all around the world, CSI UP Mission is running in its 38 th
year. Lord has made the mission a channel of transformation in the Bundhelkhand area. e aim of the
mission is the holistic development of the society which we strive to attain by spreading the love of Jesus
through various mediums such as tuition centers, tailoring centers, counseling classes, personality development
classes, anti-drug campaigns, career orientation classes, leadership training programmes, motivational
classes, film shows, Compassion Project, VBS and prayer meetings.
e land of UP was marked by deep-rooted caste system, blind faith, illiteracy, corrupted social order,
inequality and mob-lynching. Even in the midst of these adverse situations many realized the love of
our Lord Jesus Christ through our Mission and by attending our worship services regularly. We conduct
regular prayer meetings in every village. Our tuition centers, tailoring centers and the above mentioned
remaining projects enrich the social life of the villagers. Even though our missionaries face socio-political
threats and challenges, they are very dedicated and enthusiastic in spreading the Gospel.
Our Mission School St. James Inter College, Charkhari is one of the best schools in Mahoba District
and is running in its 27th year. e school, which caters to children from more than 30 villages, stands
for the well-being of the poor and the oppressed. Many students coming from very far off places
depend on our school bus for transportation. Our teachers put in a lot of effort in educating the students
even though their salaries don’t adequately compensate them.
In addition to the functioning of the school, we run a Child Development Centre (CDC) which supports
70 children from poor families. We take care of their needs by giving them food, study materials,
clothes and special coaching after school time. "Compassion International", a foreign funding
agency, used to provide the required funds until last year. But this year they have stopped the funding
due to some reasons. Hence we are struggling hard to meet the expenses of these children. Since these
children come from families with very poor social and economic conditions, they are unable to support
them in their studies and well being. Most of them are either orphans or children with a single
children should be educated and have a bright future.
OUR HUMBLE REQUESTS:-
Your prayer is a great support for us. e state government and municipal authorities keep raising
many challenges against our mission. Hence we request your fervent prayers for the smooth functioning
of all our mission activities and projects. Kindly uphold us in your personal prayers too.
We would be grateful if you could give us an opportunity to talk about our mission and its activities
in your church on any day or occasion of your convenience.
OUR REQUIREMENTS:-
We need dedicated and committed youngsters as teachers (for the school and tuition centers) and
as evangelists. During a break in studies, if they're able to come and work in our mission field for
a year or two, it would be really appreciable.
We are in need of funding for buildings in our mission field for the functioning of the above mentioned
projects. Currently everything is being carried out in rented buildings.
48
We also require houses for missionaries to stay. Currently they are staying in rented houses for which
we have to pay a huge amount as rent. Also, we do not have permission to conduct prayer meetings
or tuitions in these places. For that we need to take other places on rent.
For supporting an evangelist we require Rs. 20,000 per month including house rent.
A sum of Rs. 1,500/ is needed to sustain one student for a month (CDC).
For a tuition centre we require an amount of Rs. 4,000 per month.
Every year during the season of Christmas, we conduct various programmes in our centers and in the
villages that come under our mission. We take this opportunity to communicate the message of Lord
Jesus Christ to the villagers. ere are 200 children in the tuition centers and in the CDC supported
by our mission. During Christmas time we provide them with food and also give them gifts worth
Rs.500 each. We would really appreciate if we could get people to sponsor for the food and gifts for
these children.
We are really thankful to respected T. T. Santhosh Achen and the committee members and all members
of the Hyderabad Congregation for your broad mindedness and great support extended to us in our
times of need. We hope and pray that we continue to receive your support and we request kind hearted
people to come forward and help in the funding of the above mentioned various projects of our mission.
I take this opportunity to invite you all to come and visit our mission field at any given time of
your convenience. We would consider it a true blessing if you could come and stay with us and witness
the various activities of our mission.
anking you
With love
