Wayfarer. It is operated using a handheld
pump, which draws ‘dirty’ water from
a scavenger in-hose (placed in a water
source), runs it through a replaceable
filtration cartridge, and then transforms
it into clean water outputted through the
out-hose. This enables you to filter water
quickly and safely, cutting out 99.99%
of viruses, bacteria and cysts.

SIGG HERITAGE BOTTLE 1LTR £18
I’ve used Sigg bottles for 25+ years, as I’ve found they
last for ages. The stoppers tend to need replacing fairly
regularly (once every 5 years for me), as the plastic
thread wears out on the metal thread of the bottle, but
these are available to buy separately, and you can tie the lid to the
bottle so you don’t lose it. I think Sigg has stopped making this exact
model, so buy it while you can. I love them.
VERDICT A classic bottle that’s almost as old
as hillwalking itself.

I used
this
bottle on
several long-
distance walks in 2021, including
the Pembrokeshire Coast Path,
Wainwright’s Coast to Coast, Hadrian’s Wall Path and Dales High
Way, and it never let me down. I chose it because of its ultra-light
and minimalist design (only 41g per 1L bottle) and for the useful
carabiner clip – handy to ensure you never accidentally dropped
it on the trail.
