Citylife in Lichfield June 2022

Jubilee and Bower! Two great events take place in the first weekend of June in lovely Lichfield - the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and the historic Lichfield Greenhill Bower returns to the city streets on the same weekend, featuring the carnival procession and fairground in Beacon Park. So, Lichfield is definitely the place to be and our June magazine has lots of Bower and Jubilee information as well as being packed with our usual mix of local news, history, recipes, What's On events and, of course, competitions. So, put on your Union Jack hat, wave your patriotic flag and put up your red whit and blue bunting while reading a copy of our Jubilee Special magazine - and wish good health to Her Majesty!

Open Gardens<br />

<strong>2022</strong><br />

Open garden events make a great day out for all the<br />

family. Why not travel a little farther afield and visit<br />

some of the many beautiful towns and villages which<br />

are open<strong>in</strong>g their gardens up to the public this year?<br />

Shenstone<br />

Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd<br />

July<br />

£4 per person, cover<strong>in</strong>g both<br />

days<br />

There are 17 gardens to<br />

visit, and Flower Festivals <strong>in</strong><br />

both village churches, at the<br />

biennial Shenstone Village Festival. Some gardens will be<br />

open both days whilst others will open either Saturday or<br />

Sunday, however all will be well worth the visit. Entry to<br />

the gardens is by festival programme which also allows<br />

access to the many other enterta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g village events which<br />

take place over the weekend.<br />

March<strong>in</strong>gton<br />

Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th <strong>June</strong><br />

At least 12 beautiful gardens to view, as well as<br />

scarecrows, a craft fair, v<strong>in</strong>tage vehicles, owls and<br />

refreshments. Free park<strong>in</strong>g and Shuttle Bus. Location<br />

ST14 8LJ.<br />

Open<strong>in</strong>g Times: 11am-5pm<br />

Price: £5 per person to buy on the day<br />

Yoxall<br />

Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th <strong>June</strong><br />

We love our gardens at Hadley End, Yoxall, and we<br />

would like to <strong>in</strong>vite you to jo<strong>in</strong> us over the weekend. So,<br />

br<strong>in</strong>g the family, your well-behaved pooch too (on a lead<br />

please), and why not br<strong>in</strong>g a blanket to stretch out upon<br />

whilst enjoy<strong>in</strong>g our homemade cakes and a refresh<strong>in</strong>g<br />

dr<strong>in</strong>k? Whether you're after garden<strong>in</strong>g ideas, plants, a<br />

v<strong>in</strong>tage tractor display or musical enterta<strong>in</strong>ment, there’ll be someth<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>in</strong>terest<br />

you! . Open<strong>in</strong>g Times: 12.30pm-5.30pm. Price: £4 per adult for both days<br />

(accompanied children and dogs free). Tickets on the day from the first garden<br />

visited. Proceeds shared between Barton Lions (support<strong>in</strong>g local charities) and the<br />

Red Cross.<br />

park<strong>in</strong>g available.<br />

Fradley<br />

Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th<br />

<strong>June</strong><br />

There will be 14 <strong>in</strong>terest<strong>in</strong>g<br />

gardens to view rang<strong>in</strong>g<br />

from the bijou to large<br />

gardens, even the school<br />

children's wildlife area and<br />

garden! There are two refreshment areas sell<strong>in</strong>g homemade<br />

cakes, and on Saturday the church will be open early at<br />

12pm noon sell<strong>in</strong>g ploughman's lunches and cakes, whilst<br />

on Sunday the Youth Centre will provide refreshments<br />

from 1pm. A lovely canalside garden is also provid<strong>in</strong>g<br />

refreshments both days. Full musical it<strong>in</strong>erary and craft<br />

stalls on both days, as well as Morris Dancers on Sunday.<br />

Car park<strong>in</strong>g available on Church Lane.<br />

Open<strong>in</strong>g times: 1pm-5pm. Price: £5 per adult, under 16s<br />

free.<br />

Alrewas<br />

Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd July<br />

Alrewas Open Gardens weekend is<br />

back after a break of two years and<br />

features around 24 venues, with<br />

some past favourites and some new<br />

gardens to enjoy. There will also be<br />

plant stalls, musical and craft artists, a<br />

free children’s treasure hunt and free<br />

park<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>in</strong> addition to the traditional<br />

refreshment venue at The Vicarage<br />

grounds this year.<br />

Alrewas village is located on the A38 between <strong>Lichfield</strong> and<br />

Burton, near the National Memorial Arboretum. Please<br />

follow signs to the free park<strong>in</strong>g area.<br />

Open<strong>in</strong>g Times: 12pm-5pm. Price: Admission by programme<br />

at £5 per adult, under 16s free.
