3-Week Musical Theatre Intensive
This July, Trail Arts Council is proud to bring back the Triple
Threat Experience Summer Intensive Program performing
Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr at The Bailey Theatre.
Since 2014 Triple Threat Experience has been teaching
youth ages 8-18 the ins and outs of singing, dancing and acting.
They have produced Seussical Jr, Alice in Wonderland Jr,
Shrek The Musical Jr, Elf The Musical Jr, Beauty and the Beast Jr
and the Lion King Jr.
After a rocky couple of years due to the Covid-19 pandemic,
your Triple Threat instructors Juliana Marko (founder/director),
Nadine Tremblay (founder/choreographer), and Lise
Levesque (musical director) are happy to return to the stage to
teach The Little Mermaid Jr!
Students ages 8-18 will gain skills in auditioning, learning
choreography, vocal production, learning lines and character
work. These students will make up the chorus in this year’s
production. No audition required. Registration closes June 15.
Classes take place Monday-Friday 9am-3pm July 4-22 at
The Charles Bailey Theatre in Trail.
Cost for this program is $425 per student. Full scholarships
available. Please contact juliana.triplethreatexperience@gmail.
Pros and cons of a home equity
line of credit
With the warm weather finally here, maybe you’re considering
installing a pool or doing those home renovations you’ve been
dreaming about. Perhaps you want to get away and an RV or a
cottage are at the top of your wish list.
It can seem like using the equity in your home is a quick and
easy way to pay for such big expenses. While you may benefit in
the short term, it’s also important to consider the longer-term
risks about home equity lines of credit, often referred to as
HELOCs.
A HELOC is a form of credit that relies on using your home as
a guarantee that you’ll pay back the money you borrow. Unlike a
loan, a HELOC lets you borrow money, pay it back and borrow
it again up to a maximum credit limit.. The interest rates are variable
and will change as interest rates go up or down.
HELOC “pros” include:
• They often offer easy access to credit.
• They have lower interest rates than other types of credit,
especially unsecured loans and credit cards.
• You can pay back the money you borrow at any time
without a penalty.
• You can borrow as much as you want up to your available
credit limit.
HELOC “cons” include:
• It takes discipline to pay off because you’re usually
required to only pay the monthly interest charges.
• Large amounts of available credit can make it easier to
over-spend and carry debt for a long time.
Opioid use disorder (OUD) is a treatable
medical condition. And, yet, many
people living with OUD don’t have a
regular care provider who can help connect
them to medication. For many, their
first exposure to treatment is through an
emergency department (ED).
Given the increasing number of toxic
drug deaths across BC – 2,224 in 2021
according to the BC Coroner’s Service
– Interior Health’s Emergency Services
and Mental Health and Substance Use
networks partnered in June 2021 to
connect people experiencing opioid use
disorder with Suboxone in emergency
departments. Suboxone is an Opioid
Agonist Treatment (OAT) medication
used to treat OUD.
philipkanigan@castlegarnotary.com
The project includes offering Suboxone
“to-go packs” to start patients at
home and a new urgent referral process
to connect people to ongoing OAT in
the community.
In May, Suboxone in the ED was
introduced in hospitals throughout the
West Kootenay, including the Kootenay
Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail,
the Castlegar and District Community
Health Centre, and the Kootenay Lake
Hospital in Nelson. All sites will be
included by September 2022.
Having Suboxone available in EDs
has decreased barriers to accessing OAT
in communities by providing frontline
nurses and physicians with the necessary
training to prescribe the treatment, and
by helping educate patients on how to
start it themselves at home.
• You may have to pay off your entire HELOC if you want
to switch your mortgage to another lender.
• Your bank could take possession of your home if you
miss payments.
If you decide a HELOC is right for you, make sure you
understand all the terms and conditions of your product
before signing on the dotted line. Take time to review and
compare your options and ask potential lenders to clarify anything
you don’t understand.
