THAI GOVERNMENTFULLY SUPPORTSELECTRIC VEHICLESThe government has reiteratedits support for electricvehicles (EV’s) and the EVindustry alike.Government spokesmanThanakorn Wangboonkongchanawas quoted as saying,"As part of that, the governmentnow has a policy of notonly supporting the increasinguse of electric vehiclesin the country but to likewisemake Thailand a hub forproducing electric cars andmotorbikes in the ASEAN region.”Although the ambition isto become the “Detroit ofAsia” from the manufacturingand export standpoint,the government is also firmlyfocused on cutting carbonemissions in Thailand, byensuring that sales of EVsto local customers increaserapidly.THAILAND BUSINESS NEWSTo support EV use, theMetropolitan Electricity Authority(MEA) unveiled plansto add at least 100 more MEAEV chargers in Nonthaburi,Samut Prakan and Bangkokby the end of 2022. There isalso a push to install manymore EV charging stations inother provinces.Subsidies to the tune of3 billion baht have been setaside by the Excise Departmentthat will translate intoindividual subsidies of between70,000 and 150,000baht per vehicle sold bycompanies taking part in thescheme.THAI RESTAURANTSSEE UPTICKGreen shoots have started to bevisible in the restaurant sector withthe number of new restaurant venuesregistering as a new businesspropelling the sector into third placeoverall.Two hundred and twenty-twonew eateries were registered inFebruary, an increase of three percent on the previous year. Whilstnot a large increase, it is a significantmilestone showing growth inthe industry. The rise comes againsta modest one per cent overall dropin the same month for registrationsof new businesses in all businesssectors combined.Even though Coved-19 caseshave climbed, relaxations in restrictionsand widespread vaccinationshave helped to ensure that peoplereturn to their favourite eaterieswhether they be in stand-alone locationsor in popular shopping malls.HOSPITAL GROUP TOGO DIGITALWith average ages in Thailandclimbing, the foray into thewellness business is seen as animportant step for some hospitals.Phyathai Hospital Group andPaolo Hospital Group have carvedout a way to ensure that wellnessservices are more streamlined usingonline digital services.Att Thongtang, chief executiveof Phyathai Hospital Groupand Paolo Hospital Group underBangkok Dusit Medical Services,was quoted as saying "We developedan application named Healthupto serve our patients andmake treatment services moreconvenient.”The idea is to allow patients tocontact the hospital without necessarilymaking an appointmentand to help to have meetingsbetween hospital personnel anddoctors using secure servers toprovide video consultations.As well, the app will be able toserve up reports, scans, and otherinformation about a patient’sailments all in a secure fashion.Mr Att was also quoted assaying, "We plan to seek a newtarget group among companyemployees, especially health loverswho may be interested in ourhealthcare programmes.”Phyathai Hospital Group andPaolo Hospital Group have 11hospitals combined and treatnearly 4 million people a year.
