Inline fours can often be wild… the Ninja 1000SX’s motor wont rip your
arms out like their ZX10-R or H2. It has been tuned to be easier, more
useful, more forgiving and a more practical engine on the road. This one
comes with a fat, flat torque curve, lots of midrange, and close ratios
giving the bike so much practical flexibility. Kawasaki has packed it
with all the good stuff. You are given two power modes: “Full”, which
delivers exactly that; and “Low”, which has a milder response and limits
output to 75% (105bhp). You get three levels of traction control and four
riding modes: Sport, Road, Rain and your preferred custom rider setting.
And… Oh Yes! Cornering ABS takes over if you happen to get it wrong.
The Ninja comes some hi-tech features, including cruise control, a
two-way quick shifter which is one of the smoothest that we have ever
felt and a neat colour TFT dash. Bluetooth connectivity and Kawasaki
Rideology. Using the RIDEOLOGY THE APP smartphone application, you
can do three key functions:
• View vehicle information and check the latest status of your
vehicle.
• Keep a detailed riding log that can be played back for review.
You can also view riding route, distance and time traveled.
• Easily change vehicle settings before riding such as Ride
Mode and Electronic Suspension.
All come fitted as standard, not accessories or options that cost extra.
Cool huh!
“Go round and do it again!”
That’s Stefan our photographers favourite phrase. On the hottest day in
Gauteng in some of the gnarliest traffic on the road she didn’t get hot
once and there was no uncomfortable heat transmitted to the rider, even
with all the stop/starting, u-turns and dodging traffic. So comfortable,
Kawasaki has done a great job at making a bike with the correct foot to
bum to arms ratio for riders of all sizes. Ride her to The Cape, you’ll be
smiling. Even the little screen is a marvel, it flings the air well over the
pilots head. Go slowly, she ploughs along through the traffic and never
misses a beat. Ride Fast… well open the throttle and she howls along.
