Express<strong>in</strong>g complex emotion <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
human face is <strong>the</strong> subject for Jugal<br />
Sarkar’s pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g. Grow<strong>in</strong>g up <strong>in</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> nor<strong>the</strong>rn part of West Bengal,<br />
Mr. Sarkar has developed a close<br />
k<strong>in</strong>ship with <strong>the</strong> natural world and<br />
its connection with <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>digenous<br />
people. That k<strong>in</strong>ship is <strong>the</strong> basis for<br />
<strong>the</strong> portraits he pa<strong>in</strong>ts.<br />
The Kolkata-based artist works <strong>in</strong><br />
acrylic, watercolor, and oil-medium<br />
with a bold color palette and fluid<br />
style to give his portraits a presence<br />
that captures <strong>the</strong> character of <strong>the</strong><br />
person. Several orig<strong>in</strong>al works of <strong>the</strong><br />
artist are <strong>in</strong> possession of private<br />
collectors from various parts of <strong>the</strong><br />
world. Jugal is now open accept<strong>in</strong>g<br />
commissioned work for custom<br />
portraits.<br />

collection” Says Jugal. Dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong><br />
Covid pandemic, when schools<br />
and colleges started onl<strong>in</strong>e classes,<br />
Jugal took tutor<strong>in</strong>g to a new level of<br />
success, where he started onl<strong>in</strong>e<br />
pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g classes. Apart from tak<strong>in</strong>g<br />
regular classes, he is also engaged<br />
<strong>in</strong> monthly workshops. Each<br />
workshop is different from <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r <strong>in</strong><br />
terms of medium, language and <strong>the</strong><br />
context.<br />
Accord<strong>in</strong>g to his fan followers<br />
on social media, he excels <strong>in</strong> his<br />

Says Jugal<br />
portrait is lively and amaz<strong>in</strong>g. He<br />
is equally skilled <strong>in</strong> both color<br />
pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g and pencil sketches. He<br />
uses oil, water and acrylic mediums<br />
for pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g. However, his pencil<br />
sketches us<strong>in</strong>g graphite pencils as<br />
well as charcoal excel <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir own<br />
