BRADFORD DUDLEY HILL 8 WOOLSTON ROVERS 24

(NCL 21/05/2022)

Woolston Rovers put an end to a four-game losing run when they claimed their first away victory

of the season with an impressive win at Bradford Dudley Hill in the National Conference League

Division Two at the Neil Hunt Memorial Ground, Bradford.

Rovers opened the scoring in the fifteenth minute when hooker Adam Files went from dummy half

close to the line and found prop forward Harry Files who used his strength to carry three defenders

over the line with him to score at the side of the posts. Stand off Theo Holt converted and

then six minutes later Rovers moved the ball from their own ten metre line and on the last tackle

a superb kick to the corner by Holt was collected by winger Karlton Bates who scored in the right

corner. Holt landed a fine touchline conversion.

Two minutes from half time Dudley Hill had prop forward Kyle Bateman sin binned for contact

with the head and Rovers made the extra man count when a lovely short ball from Holt put A Files

through a gap and he selflessly passed to substitute Scott Whiteley for him to score under the

posts. Holt converted to give his side a commanding 18-0 interval advantage.

Rovers moved further ahead eight minutes into the second half when A Files kept the ball alive

in the tackle and offloaded to H Files who brushed off four defenders to score on the right. Holt

converted and it looked as though Rovers had gone over again shortly afterwards when second

row Dan Fearnley powered over but the referee surprisingly adjudged that he had knocked on.

Dudley Hill had substitute Elliott Cousins sin binned for dissent and then on the hour Rovers loose

forward Ryan Brown was yellow carded for an incident off the ball and while he was off the field

Dudley Hill scored a try in the left corner through centre Byron Lisle after a period of constant

pressure and then with seven minutes remaining B Lisle went over again in the left corner but it

was merely a consolation as Rovers completed a fine 24-8 success.

The Man of the Match was awarded to Rovers stand off Theo Holt. He was very well supported by

prop forward Harry Files and centre Olly Parr.
