SALFORD CITY ROOSTERS 62 WOOLSTON ROVERS ‘A’ 14

(NWML Trophy 04/06/2022)

Woolston Rovers ‘A’ crashed out of this season’s NWML Trophy when they were defeated at

Salford City Roosters at the quarter final stage.

The Roosters, who are top of Division Two having lost only one league game all season, proved

why they are in a higher league as they clinically took their chances to record a comfortable win

against a Rovers side that never gave up and earned great credit for the way that they continued

to compete right until the end.

The home side built up a 32-8 interval lead and a further five converted tries in the second half,

with Rovers claiming one converted try of their own saw the Roosters run out 62-14 winners and

book their place in the semi final.

Try scorers for Rovers ‘A’ were Tom Atherton, Liam Lawton and Connor Pickett.

Best for Rovers were stand off Ben Roberts, second row Sam Vernon and prop forward Niall

Toher.

After the game Rovers ‘A’ coach Liam Lawton said, “That was a tough afternoon for us against a

quality side but I cannot fault the effort of each player who was out there. We never let our hands

go down and kept having a dig for the full eighty minutes. We will dust ourselves down and get

back to training and make sure we are ready for our next game in a fortnight.”
