Houston Primary School
Primary 7 pupils had an amazing five day trip away to Loch Insh. They have
returned with a wealth of experience of water sports, with the favourites
being wind surfing, raft building and paddle boarding. On dry land the
pupils enjoyed tubing, archery and bushcraft. A great time was had by all.
A huge thank you to the staff who accompanied the children.
New Entrants - The nursery pupils who will be joining us in August to start
Primary 1, have been invited to a Treasure Hunt with Mrs Johnston. They
will also have Play & Snack sessions, sample a school lunch and meet some
of the Primary 1 teachers. We look forward to getting to know them.
Supporting Ukraine - Have you spotted us? Well done to P6/5 and
Miss McCafferty for their wonderful singing talents in support of the
people of Ukraine. Hundreds of children in Renfrewshire came together
virtually to sing, ‘Let it go’. Well done to everyone #letitgoameila
Eco News - Each class has been bringing in plastic bottles and aluminium
cans for recycling. Mrs Morrison, our wonderful Gardening Granny and
her team have been collecting them from the school and taking them to
Sainsbury’s to receive monetary vouchers in return. These vouchers are
then used to purchase seeds, compost etc., for our Gardening Club.
Gardening Club - Our Gardening Club set each class a challenge to
decorate a planter and fill it with spring bulbs. Now that the bulbs have
bloomed our judges, Mrs Morrison and Mrs Farquhar have chosen the
winning planter. This year’s winner is Primary 5/4. Please see our school
Eco Blog for photographs.
P7 Transition - Our Primary 7 pupils, have engaged in their transition
programme to their chosen secondary school. They have met with some
of their new teachers and engaged in very many learning experiences.
To celebrate the end of their time at Houston Primary School, P7 have planned
a Beach BBQ, instead of a traditional school dance. Lots of fun ahead!
Rotary Club Winners - P5 and P7 pupils entered the Rotary Club’s
Young Writer Competition. Some talented pupils received gift vouchers
to the value of £25. They were absolutely delighted to have their talents
recognised.
Duchal Nursery
It’s been a busy time at Duchal as the summer term flies by.
We had an amazing time at our first summer outing for a few years, which
started off with great excitement with the arrival of the big bus that then
took us on a wonderful journey to Helensburgh and to the marvellous
Fruin Farm.
The children had a fabulous time as they were introduced to llamas, got
up close to some very woolly sheep followed by a spot of pond dipping,
where we discovered all sorts of creatures living in the water. To calm
things down we got creative as we painted animals inspired by what we’d
seen.
If you’ve not yet made it to Fruin Farm you must pay a visit, it is a wonderful
spot where you can see the farm animals or hold a special event.
There was an enthusiastic return of Sports Day with our young budding
athletes and their families getting fully immersed in all the races, (the
daddies race was as competitive as ever!!) as the sun shone across
Birkmyre Park. It was so nice to see so many families and friends gathered
together to enjoy this great occasion.
By the time you read this, term will be over and our young children
will have performed their hearts out at our Summer Concert, (they are
practising with gusto!) and we will be saying a fond farewell to our older
children who are now fully prepared for their next step as they move on to
a variety of primary schools across the local area. We wish them luck and
remember please pop back and visit to tell us all about it!
Finally a huge thank you to our wonderful teaching staff that make Duchal
the truly special nursery that it is. Wishing you all a relaxing summer.
New Entries to Duchal:
We now offer free pre school education for 3 – 5yr olds every day (during

Kilmacolm Bowling Club Jubilee Celebrations
Kilmacolm bowling club celebrated Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee on Saturday
4th June with an open day and Wapinschaw. The day was a great success,
the club was adorned with balloons, bunting and flags, there was a large turn
out of both members and guests and the weather was fantastic. There was
also Prosecco and strawberry tarts to add to the royal flavour of the day, and a
toast to her majesty which was superbly written and delivered by club member
Alison Watson, all in all a great tribute, and a great day had by all.
