Ranfurly Castle Ladies
May was a fairly busy month for the Ladies Section with competitions on
both Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The Macmillan Cancer Stableford was played on both Wednesday 11th
and Saturday 14th of May with 24 ladies competing. The very windy
conditions on the Wednesday reduced the numbers playing but £100
was raised for this good cause. Helen Abram was the winner with 40
points and Louise Cooper was runner-up with 38 points.
Tuesday 17th May was the 9 hole Stableford and Eileen Rankin the winner
with 14 points. Wednesday 18th May was an Extra Medal as well as the
Medal Finals from 2021. Louise Cooper won the Silver Medal Final and
Morven McLeod won the Bronze.
The 19th of May was the first of the West Renfrewshire League matches.
6 Ladies travelled to Ralston Golf Club for the evening match which was
played in glorious weather. Sadly the home team had a very good win
over Ranfurly but the games were played in a very friendly manner and
enjoyed by all. The second match was played at Ranfurly Castle on 31st
May against Caldwell Golf Club. The conditions could have been very
wet but luckily the torrential rain on the horizon moved around us and
all games were completed dry. This was an overwhelming victory for
Ranfurly. Good luck to the team going forward for their next 2 matches.
On 25th May there was a Platinum Jubilee Celebration fun competition.
Unfortunately the weather was not what had been hoped for so the number
of holes played was reduced. Despite the wet and windy conditions the
40 ladies who played had great fun. The teams had been issued with a
piece of string which could be used once by each member of the team
to have a free shot, no longer than the length of the string. This should
have been simple, but not everyone remembered that they had the string
until it was too late! There were one or two other fun challenges as they
played. Everyone enjoyed a sumptuous afternoon tea in the club with
decorations of red, white and blue giving the finishing touch to the day.
The winning team consisted of Pamela MacKenzie, Rosemary Ogilvie and
Cynthia Keanie with 51 points.
On 8th June the weather once again won the battle and, due to torrential
rain, the Centenary Trophy was not played. Hopefully this fixture will be
rearranged and the sun will shine!

On 4th June Old Ranfurly Ladies section held their very popular Ladies Day competition. The dress option
this year was ‘Wear it Pink’ and many ladies were happy to oblige in support of Wear it Pink, one of our
charities this year. The other was for the Dystonia Society. The competition on Ladies day required lady
members to invite a partner to play in mixed greensomes. This was over 13 holes stroke play. The full days
play culminated in a 3 hole mumbo-jumbo fun competition. The course was in excellent condition and the
weather was glorious. 110 participants enjoyed a fun game of golf in the much welcomed warm sunshine.
Golfers could take advantage of the beer tent which was very David and Kay Skinner
much appreciated as golfing in the sunshine is thirsty work!! This was served by the club bar staff. After golf
Heather and Loiuse, our excellent catering team, were on hand for members to enjoy a post match BBQ
buffet in our newly refurbished club house. The winners of the Ladies Day trophy were Fiona McPhee our
lady captain and Russell Johnstone our club captain who were playing as a pair. Their score was an excellent
43net. Well done. The winners of the Mumbo-Jumbo competition were Linda Anderson and Derek Milne
with Fiona McPhee and Russell Johnstone congratulations to all. Our charities on the day raised £750 for
Dystonia and & £240 for Wear it Pink Breast Cancer Charity. A very successful day all round

The other June competition was the traditional Rosebowl. This was held on Sunday 12th June. It was a mixed
Stableford greensomes competition and open to members and guests. Once again there was a great turn
out for the club in spite of the inclement weather. It was played over 18 holes in often very stormy conditions. However it did not deter some excellent
scores The Rosebowl this year was won by David & Kay Kinner from Chester, their home club is Padeswood & Buckley golf club in Wales. Thank you to
everyone who came along and made the day both challenging and great fun.
Our next ladies competition is the ladies open on Thursday 7th July. It’s a four ball ladies greensomes competition and all entries are very welcome.
There are still some spaces so get your name in quickly if you wish to take part. There’s great prizes and we have participants from far and wide including
all the local golf clubs, also Helensburgh and Arran. Cost is £16 per couple. Make sure you book early as you don’t want to miss out. Thank you so much
to everyone who came along. Happy golfing to all!
