L'exposition This is what you came for, présentée à la CEN-
TRALE for contempory art, est le produit d'une époque,
l'époque du lockdown qui nous a incité à repenser notre
rapport aux autres, à l'écologie, au monde dedans-dehors.
L'artiste Els Dietvorst s'entoure du BARRA MOVEMENT, un
collectif composé d'artistes et d'étudiants, et crée du lien
en réactualisant les rituels qui l'ont accompagnée durant
le confinement. Durant cinq semaines, le collectif s'est
approprié l'espace de la CENTRALE | hall pour en faire un
espace de vie commune et de création. L'exposition rend
compte à travers dessins, sculptures, vidéos, installations
et performances de cette expérience commune, cette
sculpture sociale, qu'est le travail de création artistique.
C'est également l'occasion pour Els Dietvorst d'entamer
un dialogue " au-delà de la mort " avec Philippe Vandenberg,
des hommages à l'artiste belge décédé en 2009 sont
proposés par THE BARRA MOVEMENT. Els Dietvorst est
également lauréate du BelgianArtPrize 2021, une exposition
personnelle lui est consacrée à BOZAR, créant ainsi un
pont entre les deux institutions phares de l'art contemporain
dans la Capitale de l'Europe.
The exhibition This is what you came for, presented at the
CENTRALE for contempory art, is the product of an era,
the lockdown era that prompted us to rethink our relationship
to others, to ecology, to the world inside and outside.
The artist Els Dietvorst surrounds herself with the BARRA
MOVEMENT, a collective made up of artists and students,
and creates a bond by updating the rituals that accompanied
her during the lockdown. For five weeks, the collective
appropriated the space of the CENTRALE hall to make
it a space of common living and creation. The exhibition
reflects through drawings, sculptures, videos, installations
and performances of this common experience, this social
sculpture, which is the work of artistic creation. It is also an
opportunity for Els Dietvorst to start a dialogue “beyond
death” with Philippe Vandenberg, tributes to the Belgian
artist who died in 2009 are proposed by THE BARRA
MOVEMENT. Els Dietvorst is also the winner of the BelgianArtPrize
2021, a personal exhibition is dedicated to her at
BOZAR, thus creating a bridge between the two flagship
institutions of contemporary art in the Capital of Europe.
