Vidyaranaya, Bangalore, Karnataka : In a glittering<br />

ceremony in the Bangalore palace grounds on<br />

27th February 2010, Smt. Vatsala Prabhu, Vice<br />

President received the prestigious 'Namma Bengaluru'<br />

award at the hands of the Honourable Governor<br />

of Karnataka Sh. H.R. Bhardwaj and<br />

Honourable Chief Minister of Karnataka Sh. B.S.<br />

Yediurappa. The award committee headed by a<br />

member of Rajya Sabha Sh. Rajiv Chandrasekhar<br />

with dignitaries like Justice Rama Jois and<br />

Lokayuktha Sh. Santosh Hegde among others as<br />

members, examined as many as 4000 applications<br />

proposed by citizens and shortlisted 28 persons of<br />

whom 14 (including Smt. Vatsala Prabhu) were finally<br />

selected for the award. Smt. Prabhu an entrepreneur<br />

herself, has deeply involved herself in<br />

seva activities in the field of underprivilged<br />

women's education and employment, training and<br />

rehabilitation of mentally challenged children, environmental<br />

awareness, revival of interest and<br />

pride in all round development of Kannada etc. besides<br />

being actively associated with the day to day<br />

affairs of BVP in the capacity of Vice President of<br />

Shakha.<br />

B-Block Janakpuri, Delhi South : Organized<br />

Samuhak Saral Vivah of ten eligible couples in a<br />

very impressive manner, strictly as per BVP guidelines<br />

on 13.04.2010, the Baisakhi day by spending<br />

about Rs. two and half lakhs. The attendance of<br />

about 300 relatives of ten couples, various senior<br />

functionaries of BVP, S/Sh. R.K. Thakur, M.L. Gaur<br />

and R.N. Chowdhary, distinguished residents of<br />

Janak Puri including all the three Municipal Councillors<br />

representing different parts of Janakpuri,<br />

namely Sh. Prithviraj Sahni, Sh. Shyam Sharma<br />

and Smt. Promila Ghai and large number of members<br />

of the Branch made it a very impressive function.<br />

The performance of various rituals of marriage<br />

by organizing Var Malas, ten separate VEDIS etc.<br />

was very impressive and well appreciated. A<br />

sumptuous lunch was served to all the relatives of<br />

ten couples and others who graced the occasion.<br />

As required under the norms of BVP, all the essential<br />

items to start the new household such as<br />

double bed, Steel almirahs, Utensils and clothes<br />

etc. were gifted to each couple for which members<br />

of branch and other distinguished residents contributed<br />

liberally.<br />

Belgaum, Karnataka Uttar : Dayeetwa Grahana<br />

Samarambha of Belgaum Shakha was organized<br />

on 4th April, 2010 at Gymkhana Hall of Gogte College<br />

of Commerce to hand over the dayeetwa of<br />

the Shakha to the newly elected team. <strong>Bharat</strong><br />

<strong>Vikas</strong> <strong>Parishad</strong> was introduced to the gathering by<br />

the Vice President Smt. Sukhad Deshpande. Sh.<br />

V.R. Gudi introduced the Chief Guest Sh. Avinash<br />

Potdar, a leading businessman. Smt. Ghodekar introduced<br />

the Guest of honor Sh. Jagadeesh Kunte,<br />

a well known cartoonsit while Sh. Pandurang<br />

Nayak introduced the Prant Secretary Sh. Jagadeesh<br />

Maligi. President Sh. Kumar Patil presented<br />

the flowers to the guests. The new team -<br />

President Sh. Anand Kulkarni, Secretary Sh. Namaji<br />

Deshpande & the Treasurer Sh. Pradeep<br />

Kulkarni were given the BVP oath by the Zonal<br />

Chariman Prin. V.N. Joshi, who also presided over<br />

the function. Sh. Anand Kulkarni, the new President,<br />

while accepting his dayeetwa, assured that,<br />

all the projects of the <strong>Parishad</strong> will be well organized<br />

in his tenure. He also announced the names of<br />

his executive committee and presented them the<br />

flowers as a mark of welcome. Later, the outgoing<br />

team was felicitated by the new office bearers as a<br />

mark of gratitude and congratulations for their successful<br />

tenure.<br />

On this occasion, 20 new members were introduced,<br />

welcomed and inducted by the President<br />

Sh. Anand Kulkarni. The Prant secretary Sh. Jagadish<br />

Maligi gave them the oath of BVP membership.<br />

The invited guests Sh. Jagdeesh Kunte & Sh.<br />

Avinash Potdar wished the new team all the best in<br />

their tenure and expressed their appreciation of the<br />
