We can all celebrate the fact that
Bolton Wanderers Football Club
is back on a positive trajectory
and those that own the Club
and work within it have a real
“can do” approach working with
enthusiasm to achieve and be
successful. The renewal and the
building of the next chapter in
the history of your Club involves
ensuring the best performance
on the pitch and the best
performance off the pitch too. The
board, led by Sharon, recognise
the importance of being good
custodians of this great Club and
recognise the responsibility it
has to play a significant part in
the town of Bolton as an anchor
institution.
An important element of fulfilling
that role is through the charity arm
of the Club, Bolton Wanderers in
the Community.
Bolton Wanderers in the
Community is the tangible and
real commitment of your Club
to the community of Bolton. The
mission of the charity is to use
the power of Bolton Wanderers
to inspire, support and deliver
positive change. This is achieved
through intervention, prevention
and targeted engagement with the
creation of sustainable pathways
that transform lives. This is
achieved through working together
and connecting people that enable
communities to thrive and succeed.
Last week Bolton Wanderers in the
Community published an impact
report that brings to life the stories
of those who have engaged with
the charity and the differences
that has brought to their lives. With
over 15,000 individuals engaged
in 10 programmes and 33 projects
your club is making a big impact
off the field and in the surrounding
communities.
Bolton is one of the 20% most
deprived districts/unitary
authorities in England and there
are many areas of challenge and
uncertainly for its residents. It is
for this very reason we exist and
operate as the charity arm of the
Club to work towards our overall
vision of a connected Bolton
without disadvantage.
I encourage you to take time to
have a read through the impact
report and to read the stories of
those individuals who have made
positive changes in their lives like
Sohail.
In May 2021 Sohail took up a
Kickstart role with the charity as a
Community Coach after struggling
to find work for 6 months. He had
experienced significant barriers
in relation to his health which had
affected his confidence and he
was looking to give back to the
community by helping those who
had been through similar situations
themselves. “I had a period of time
where I was really struggling with
my mental health, confidence and
I was having more seizures due
to my epilepsy. The opportunity
with Bolton Wanderers in the
Community came at a really good
time and gave me the chance to try
something new. Working for Bolton
Wanderers in the Community has
helped me get out of my comfort
zone, meet new people, develop
my confidence and has had a
really positive impact on my health.
I’m enjoying every minute of it and
can’t wait to develop my skills even
further”.
