First game you attended at the
current stadium?
It was the first ever game against
Everton remembered for the goal
that never was. Gerry Taggart’s
header clearly crossed the line but
there was no video technology at
the time and the ref didn’t give the
goal and the game finished 0-0.
At the end of the season we were
relegated on goal difference to of
all teams, Everton.
Last game you attended at the
current stadium?
Salford in the League Cup – a 5-1
win
Best opposition player you’ve
seen play at the stadium?
Thierry Henry. A Rolls Royce of a
player. We had the Indian sign over
Arsenal during Big Sam’s time at
the Reebok so he didn’t always
play when Arsenal visited but he
was World class on his day.
Best atmosphere you’ve ever
experienced at the stadium?
Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Cup
in 2008. The stadium was buzzing
that night and we won 1-0 with
Sergio Aguero sent off, but what a
career he then went on to have. I
never thought I would see Bolton

Ricardo Gardner was my favourite he arrived as a teenager from
Jamaica after the 1998 World Cup. He came back from 3 cruciate knee
ligament operations and won Player of the Year playing at full back.

Another game with a great
atmosphere was when we beat
Middlesbrough 2-1 to stay up in
the Premier League in 2003. I
remember Big Sam dancing with
Jay Jay on the pitch at the end of
the game. There were so many
smiling happy faces amongst
Bolton fans and we went on to
prosper after that qualifying for
Europe - we finished 8th, 6th, 8th
and 7th in the next four seasons
in the Premier League. The best
performing team over that period
outside the big 4.
The best set of away fans you’ve
seen at the stadium?
The Celtic fans who came for
Jimmy Phillips’ testimonial.

Best match you’ve attended at
the stadium?
The Nottingham Forest game when
we scored twice in 2 minutes to
come back and win 3-2 right at the
end to stay in the Championship
was something else; the noise
when Aaron Wilbraham scored the
winner was deafening.
Nicest home kit Bolton have worn
since 1997?
I liked the 2001/02 home kit. The
Reebok shirts were the best.
The best goal you’ve witnessed in
person at the stadium?
Nicolas Anelka‘s first goal for
Bolton against Arsenal when he cut
in from the left and curled a shot
past Jens Lehmann into the top
corner. A great goal.
