CHAIRMAN’S WELCOME
I am delighted to welcome you all to our 5th Annual Templeogue Synge Street GFC Lisney
Mini All Ireland. The excitement in the club has been building all week for the what has now
become the biggest event in the clubs calendar. The Lisney Mini All Ireland brings the whole
club together and builds great excitement among all the boys and girls.
This week we will have over 500 children from the club take part in the Mini-All Ireland
tournament in the VEC. The excitement has been building in the club over the past few weeks
as the teams have been picked and registrations are rolling in. I would like to thank Shane Harte
and all the committee involved in the organisation of this tournament.
I would also like to thank our sponsors Lisney in Terenure for their very kind sponsorship of the
event. They have been great partners and their support is very much appreciated and we look
forward to working together for many years to come.
I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the club to thank Kevin O’Donovan our GPO to
Templeogue Synge Street GFC. Kevin has made a huge impact with his excellent work in our
schools, our academy, summer and Easter camps and our Coach the Coaches sessions.
Our Nursery is booming and Saturday mornings in Bushy Park with the market in full swing
has a real community feel to it. We have large numbers in all our underage teams in both boys
and girls and are competing with the top clubs in the county. It is particularly pleasing to see
so many girls take part this year and we hope to see many of these in the blue and white and
yellow jersey in the near future.
I am also delighted to announce that we now have a second nursery up and running with up to
40 children in Dolphin Park. We have taken on Killian O’Gara as a second GPO, Killian’s focus
will be on the Dublin 8 schools and will form part of the clubs ambitious growth plans.
We have successful mens and ladies senior teams and other adult teams at all grades so new
members and support is always welcome. Keep and eye on our website and facebook page for
fixtures and come out to support the lads.
Finally we have had another year with great representation at county level with Eoghan O’Gara
and Niall Scully on the Dublin Senior men’s. In this week’s mini all-Ireland you are no doubt
witnessing the next generation of Dublin footballers progressing through the ranks.
GPO’S LETTER
Hi All
I have been asked to give you an update on progress made throughout this year as TSS
Games Promotion officer.
Academy
Our TSS Boys and Girls Academy has started back in Bushy Park every Saturday morning
at 10.30am to 11.30am. Our recruitment drive for our 4 to 7 year olds remains our priority
and the goals are simple – enjoyment, participation and basic skills. Feel free to drop by next
Saturday and check out the fun!!!
A number of people continue to provide invaluable support to me every Saturday morning at
the Academy with David Connolly working alongside me doing Trojan work. As the number
of Boys and Girls taking part increase we have decided to split the 2013s boys and Girls
into their own groups, with Deirdre, John, Paul, Odhran, Ian and James and other parents
providing mentoring assistance in the academy on a weekly basis.
The youngest players in the Academy group are our 2014/2015 children and this group is
looked after by Karl, Sinead, Cathal and Aoife, who are focused on recruitment of new players
whilst also coaching and developing the children’s GAA Skills for the future.
As an extension of our academy we have a squad that is made up of entirely U/7 (2012)
players run by John Broderick, Barry, Claire, Felix Conor and Dave. We are training every
Saturday morning and planning to roll them out for next years U8s Team. We organised a few
friendly matches throughout the year that went down a treat with the children and parents
alike. Although we are at an early stage with this team they have great potential and if they
are anything like the current U8s team they have a bright future with plenty of players to
choose from. As a club we have great numbers at Juvenile level our search for new players
and mentors never ceases and I would encourage anybody who has an interest in helping out
to please contact me.
Summer/School of Excellence
This year we held our first School of Excellence It was aimed at U12 Boys and Girls This
School is for those kids who want to improve their football skills no matter what level they
are at. We ran it over three days and focused on Passing Shooting, Defending and Nutrition.
We had a great response from all who took part and it is our intention to now to run focused
camps like this in the future.
The TSS Easter/Summer camps continue to go from strength to strength with over 200
children participating in the Kellogg’s Camp in July it was a great success. I would like
to thank all the coaches who did a great job and a special mention to Frank Deasy, Sean
McKiernan and Brian Kelly along with the Teachers from the local schools that made the
camp a very enjoyable one. Our TSS Easter/ Summer Camps are held in the VEC grounds and
I would like to thank Ken and Darren the grounds men for all their help.
I have been running coaching foundation courses throughout the year with Gabrielle Cronin.
This is aimed at beginner coaches and will enable participants to assist a coach in the
organisation of activities to develop Gaelic football. For the future I would like to organise an
Award 1 course and I will shortly send out an update on this to gauge interest in taking part.
The more people who take part in these coaching courses benefits the club in ensuring a
consistently high standard of coaching provided.
Our strong club/school links continue to be one of our Key assets. We are very lucky to have
such a strong relationship with all of the schools in our catchment area. All of the principals
and teachers help in promoting our games and our club at every opportunity. With the Boys
and Girls schools doing so well in Cuman na Mbunscoil competition, it was great to see how
well all our players represented the club from all of the schools involved. Building on these
relationships is a key part of my role as GPO visiting the schools on a daily basis providing
coaching at all age groups and encouraging them to join us in TSS.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone in the club for their continued support
and also a very big thank you to the Principals and teachers in the local schools.
CLUB COACH DUBLIN 8 & 6W
A note on the past years developments as Club Coach for TSS in Dublin 6W & Dublin 8.
Hi All,
In my role as Club Coach for TSS I have had the privilege to extend my Gaelic Football knowledge
onto the next generation and future TSS & Dublin stars!! Since starting the role last October, I’ve
coached hundreds of fantastic young girls & boys in local primary schools such as St Clares in
Harolds Cross, Bunscoil Synge Street, Educate Together Canal Way, St Endas Whitefriar st, St
Audoens and Educate Together Dublin south city and I’d like to thank the principals and teachers
of those schools for giving me the opportunity to coach in their wonderful schools! The goal was
to make sure all boys and girls were included in the learning of key skills of the game whilst
having lots of fun doing so! I encouraged them all to practice their skills at home if they wanted
to become footballers and was delighted to see so many faces come along to our brand new
academy in Dolphin Park - home of Templeogue Synge Street GAA! It has been a pleasure to see the
development of the boys & girls’ football skills and also other important life skills such as teamwork
and sportsmanship!
Dolphin Academy
The Dolphin Academy began in late October 2018 with the great help of Dinny Boland who put in
huge work so that it ran like clockwork. He organised flyers for me to hand out in schools, made
sure we had coaches at the ready, he even coached himself and always had treats for the kids
every Saturday! Without him or all the coaches that have gave a hand since October, none of it
was possible - so a massive thank you goes out to them, especially Dinny, Joe O’Reilly, Hannah
O’Brien, Gemma Murphy & Chloe Duffy who were there every week doing phenomenal work and
representing the club so well! Thanks guys! A huge thank you goes out to the parents for bringing
their children along and getting involved in some coaching themselves. It was great to see such
a level of engagement as the parents will have an important part to play in the future of their
children’s success with TSS! Finally to the ‘Tea Ladies’ Ann & Fergal O’Gara who provided tea, coffee
& treats for the parents every Saturday morning rain or shine, thank you!
The goal of the academy was to invite and encourage all boys & girls from the local schools around
Dolphins Barn area to come along and try it out and eventually become TSS players! What began
with 10 boys & girls the first day is now close to 50 boys & girls!! We hope to grow the academy
even more this year and invite all boys & girls aged 4-7 to come try it out to learn some new skills,
make some friends and have fun!
CLUB INFORMATION
Templeogue Synge Street GFC is a GAA club dedicated to Gaelic Football. Founded in 1999
when Synge Street PP GFC amalgamated with Templeogue GFC. We have mens and ladies
section and serve the Templeogue, Terenure, Rathgar areas all the way to Synge Street on the
South Circular Road. We have teams at every age group and welcome player of all levels of skill
and ability
Due to the growth of our club we have a number of Grounds. Dolphin Park is our Primary home
ground, located on the Crumlin road between Loreto College and the Canal it consists of 2
Adult Pitches and 3 Juvenile pitches. Bushy Park is the main ground for our underage section
and the VEC grounds in Terenure Village is a hive of activity every Saturday morning.
The Club are planning a major re-development of our home Grounds in Dolphin Park. The Club
own 14 acres in Dolphin Park and is a fantastic facility for matches and training. The changing
facilities are old and in need of a complete overall. The Club is planning to demolish the existing
changing facilities and build a new facility the will provide changing facilities for men and
women, a club gym and meeting room. This will be a vital part of our strategic plan for the club
and provide state of the art facilities for all the boys and girls playing here today.
To fund this development we are selling 2.1 acres of our grounds, we will still maintain our two
full size adult pitches and training areas. The development will also include the re-laying of the
first senior pitch and general upgrades to the facilities. Our planning application is currently
with An Bord Pleanala and a decision is expected in November of this year.
2013 & 2014 ACADEMY GROUP
Our 2013 and 2014 boys and girls have come on in leaps and bounds over the past year. All
learn at their own pace but show great enthusiasm and willingness to learn new skills.
Feel free to drop by on Saturday mornings
to Bushy Park or Dolphin’s Barn to check it
out. All boys and girls are welcome to give
it a go – no commitment necessary.
Our priority and goals are simple –
enjoyment, participation and learning basic
New mentors and helpers are essential
and we encourage all parents to help
out– absolutely no experience required!! Our GPOs will run an introduction to mentoring and
2012 ACADEMY GROUP
The 2012 group has more than 50 boys and girls and counting (always looking for new
joiners!).
Before the break for summer, after 2/3 years of learning the basics, our kids moved on to
their first blitzes against local club teams and it was great to see the skills being applied on
the pitch for the first time! The enthusiasm and enjoyment shown by parents and kids alike
shows great promise for the future and will no doubt be built on as we move to playing more
regular matches.
Come Christmas, we will graduate from the Academy which means mid-week training in
2020 with competitive matches every second Saturday morning. So, as we enter the final four
months of the Academy, we hope to sharpen their core skills further before embarking on
the Go Games. Up TSS!! The 2012 Academy is lucky to have a dedicated group of mentors,
footballers and parents. We thank you all for your continued help and support.
However, we are always interested in recruiting new players and mentors. No mentor
experience necessary… just plenty of enthusiasm and you’ll love it if you get involved,
guaranteed!
U8 BOYS
After three years in TSS
Football Academy, the 2011
boys graduated with distinction
last December. We would like
to thank Kevin O’Donovan our
GPO for laying a tremendous
‘football-foundation’ for the
boys. The transition to Go-
Games was seamless – with the
boys bringing their customary
enthusiasm and energy to
mid-week training (Wednesday at 7pm) and matches. Our Go-Games journey took us to over
10 different clubs in South County Dublin in varying weather conditions (we played in a minihurricane
against Naomh Olaf !!!). We ended our campaign with an hugely enjoyable away trip to
St Martin’s in Wexford, in conjunction with Faugh’s under-8s. We host our home matches in the
cosy surrounds of CYM Terenure, which has become a fortress for the 2011 boys !!!!
Skills development, participation and fun remain top priorities – with ambitious and novel training
plans in place for the remainder of the current season. To keep pace with skills development and
new ideas, our Mentors attended a number of invaluable coach-the-coaches evenings hosted by
the club. We are fortunate to have a committed and spirited group of Mentors. Next year we move
to 9-a-side and 40 minute matches – so plenty of work ahead. Our squad numbers remain very
healthy with close to 55 boys playing football on a regular basis. For the remainder of the year we
have four matches: September 21st; October 5th & 19th and November 9th – we hope to play an
away blitz in November.
A special thanks to our generous sponsors Felicity Fox and AXA Insurance for their ongoing
support. Finally we have a committed and energetic group of boys supported by an enthusiastic
set of parents and mentors – we look forward to the coming years as a team with confidence.
As we head into the second half of the season and prepare for 2020 we are keen to grow our
player and mentor numbers. If you are interested in learning more or joining the 2011 team please
U8 GIRLS
Since the beginning of 2019 our U8 (2011) girls have
not only grown in numbers but have developed into
great young footballers. We started with a group of 10
girls and now have more than 30 players in our group.
During 2019 we have played friendlies, participated in
Blitzes, attended matches in Croke Park and of course
started playing Go-Games.
We participate in the 3-Team South Dublin League
and matches usually take place every second Sunday
morning. There is always great support from parents
and other family members. The players embraced the
challenge of matches and it has been a joy to watch the group develop as a team and as players.
As with all TSS teams, we are made up of players from various schools in our catchment area.
The girls have become great friends and shown boundless determination & spirit, training come
rain or shine. Most importantly, all the players experience fun and friendship whilst engaging in
physical exercise and skills improvement.
If you are new to the area or your daughter is interested in playing some football, please join us on
Wednesday evenings at 18:30 in Terenure College.
If you have any questions or know of anyone who would like to join us,
please call Ryno van Rensburg on 087 699 5227. TSS Abu!
12
U9 BOYS
Our 2010/U9s are half way through their second year of playing Go-Games. We have
around 50 boys involved, many of whom have been with us since the academy when they
were 5 or 6 year olds.
It is great to see how far they have progressed in the last few years. They work well
together both at training and during games. They have a great sense of team spirit. Our
mentors often remark that they are a pleasure to work with and coach. The boys are very
welcoming to new players, so if your son is interested in joining, we would love to have
him.
Highlights of the year so far were our annual trip to Croke park in the spring and we
hosted our first visiting team from outside Dublin in June. On the morning of the Leinster
final we ran blitz in CYM against Kells from Co Meath, with a great spread organised by
our parents. It was a huge success, which we hope to repeat again next year.
We train every Monday at 6.30pm in the White Fathers, with matches played every
second Saturday during the school term. All our matches are played either at home in the
VEC or against opposition from the south side of Dublin, so away games do not involve
too much travelling.
As we said above, we always welcome new players and adults who are willing to give a
helping hand.
U9 GIRLS
What a year the TSS Jackies
have had! Nearly doubling
in numbers from last years
25, the U9s are powering
forward; getting sponsorship,
gear sorted and even moving
to a weekday without losing
momentum. The girls train
Monday evenings in Terenure
College at 6pm. Matches are
Sunday mornings.
U10 BOYS
The boys U10’s are now midway through their 3rd and final
Go-Games year and it’s been great to watch them develop and
progress not just on the football pitch but also as comrades
and friends. We put huge emphasis on team work and trying
to make training a fun activity that the boys look forward to on
Wednesday evenings. This year we introduced the Trainer of
the month (TOTM) award, each month 5 boys are nominated for
TOTM by the mentors with one picked as the overall winner, the
boys are nominated on the basis of how they behave at training
e.g. being nice to team mates, help tidying up after training, and
having a good attitude in general, it’s been a big success and
the boys have really taken to it. We also have an annual trip to
Croke Park in March to see the Dubs which is always a great
day out and in June we had our 2nd TSS superstars BBQ which is one of the highlights of the
year for the kids, coaches, and parents. We have 65 boys approx. involved and we are always
looking for new members, you don’t have to have played before, we want boys who’d like to
give it a go, you’d be surprised how quick they get the hang of it. We train every Wednesday
7pm in Terenure College and on the brand new astro pitch in Bluebell community center
during the Winter months.
would like to join us!
15
U10 GIRLS
We have grown to a squad of 51 players and always welcome new recruits! Our girls are
a friendly and enthusiastic bunch. They have a great sense of team spirit and are eager to
develop their football skills. The players come from a number of schools in the area, with a
large representation from both Presentation Terenure and St Pius X. It is great to see new
friendships forming across class groups and schools. We recognise how vital it is for young
females to have an active lifestyle early on, so that they reap the physical and emotional
benefits, and continue to participate in sports through their teenage years and into adult life.
So, at training, we try to ensure that the girls experience fun and friendship whilst engaging in
physical exercise and skills improvement.
As our numbers continue to increase, this year we are participating in the 4-Team All County
League. This year matches usually take place every second Saturday afternoon, in 2020
these will take place on Sundays. There is always great support and encouragement from
parents and other family members pitchside.
Trips to Jumpzone and Clara Lara have been among the highlights of this year as well as our
annual trip to Croke Park for the Ladies All Ireland Final.
We have a great team of enthusiastic mentors who are dedicated to growing and developing
the team, whilst ensuring the girls have fun. We are always looking for new mentors so please
contact Tim or Róisín if interested.
Training is on Monday evenings 6.00-7.00pm in Terenure College pitches (behind the Church).
New players are always welcome.
U11 BOYS
Since the last Mini All Ireland the 2008 group have had an eventful year. The group has
remained strong in number, with over 60 players, but also in spirit. Developing as a group both
on and off the pitch has been key this year and we have had a few fun excursions this year.
For the October bank holiday weekend, we were
thrilled to be able to accept an invitation from the
Austin Stacks club in Killarney to the John Lynch
Memorial national U10 tournament with clubs from
all over the country. With such a long trip we decided
to make a weekend of it and managed to hire out
an excellent hostel, housed in a fabulous building in
Fossa. Through our own Fossa man, we were then
invited to a second tournament the following day
which was great fun. The hospitality in the kingdom
was second to none, and their football only second to one! The boys had a fantastic bonding
experience and fun was had by all, even some of the parents. Plans are already in place for
another trip, to the west this year and we hope we can get more to join us.
We also enjoyed an end of year day out bowling and just before the summer break had a
great day climbing through the trees in Wicklow, followed by what turned out to be a highly
competitive but fun round robin football tournament in the Terenure Sports club.
On the pitch the skills are growing, and we will be putting more focus on the key skills,
encouraging them to develop their abilities at their own level. We want to challenge them all to
grow with their game and encourage their teamwork and support for each other.
Training is on Thursdays from 6.30 – 7.30pm in Bushy Park and winter training is in Dolphin
Park from 6.45 – 7.45pm.
the grading system and qualified to Divisions:
1,5,10 and 12. We have been very competitive in
all divisions to date and the lads have enjoyed
the challenge.
We have been busy off the pitch also with many
fun & social activities enjoyed by the boys &
parents helping create a great team spirit.
Highlights include;
• Day trip to Carlingford Adventure Centre
• BBQ & Mini League at Terenure Sports Club
The U11 & U12 TSSGFC girls are a very enthusiastic group who play football with a smile on
their faces. We now have over 50 girls who train and play matches regularly for the club.
U11 Girls play Sunday & U12 Girls play Saturdays. We train as one group on Tuesday
evenings in Terenure College where learning and practising football in a fun environment is
the order of the day – there are always a few random cartwheels on every night!!!!
The girls really enjoy the team and social environment and all girls are developing their
football skills in tandem. We play regular Go-games matches against all of the big GAA clubs
in south Dublin and are competing very strongly with all. We hosted a great ‘Super 10s’ ( 10
a side) tournament against clubs from Donegal, Mayo & Cork and once again the girls did
the Club proud. Wonderful performances. Freya was our guest of honour and presented the
Trophies. We also run some fun activities like roller disco, swimming in the National Aquatic
Centre and suchlike.
We would be delighted to encourage any girls born in 2007 or 2008 to come along to training
on any Tuesday night to try it out in a supportive environment.
If interested please contact
Ingrid on 087-961 7920 or just drop by.
THANK YOU FROM FREYA
“On behalf of the Fitzpatrick family, we would just like to thank our TSS family for all their
help and support, the Walk for Freya raised valuable funds for St John’s ward in Crumlin and
also to support her in her rehabilitation back to the pitches. We couldn’t have done it without
you. Thank you x”
GAELIC FOR MOTHERS & OTHERS
TSS G4M&O
G4MO (Gaelic for Mothers and Others) is an initiative that is run by the Ladies Gaelic Football
Association to introduce mothers and other women to playing Ladies Gaelic Football in a fun,
non-competitive and social environment. You don’t have to be a mother, but participants must
be 25+ and not currently playing competitively with a club team.
Training
We have been up and running since May 2018. At training we focus on warm-up, fitness, basic
skills, concepts of play, a short game and warm down, not forgetting the friendly banter and
good craic! We have trained throughout the summer in Bushy Park (pitch near tennis courts)
and last winter we continued to train on the astro pitch at Terenure Rugby Football Club. This
year a few of the ladies also trained together to run the Terenure 5 Mile in their club colours!
Matches & Blitz
We took part in our first National Blitz in October 2018 at Naomh Mearnog / St Sylvester’s and
we have been very lucky to be chosen again to participate in this year’s event. There’s always
such a great buzz at these events. We also took part in our second Leinster Blitz in Navan in
July and it was rewarding to see the progress that we have made, as a team, in just one year.
FUNdraising
We had lots of fun on the 18th of March when we organised some fun football matches to raise
funds for Strictly TSS, with G4MO v Children and G4MO v Partners and the introduction of some
‘new and improved’ GAA rules. It was a great success!
A Word of Thanks
Many thanks to the Executive Committee, especially Gabrielle Cronin, for their continued
support of this initiative. Thanks also to Conor Donohue, Eamonn Spillane, Ken King, Tim
Lombard and Damian Duffy who have taken us for training sessions, we really appreciate their
goodwill and efforts.
Many thanks,
IN ÓMÓS - ANTON O’TOOLE
On behalf of the Executive and membership of Templeogue Synge Street GAA Club we would
like to express our deep sadness at the passing of our clubmate Anton O’Toole.
Our sorrow however, is also matched by the enormous sense of pride that we feel and the
honour that it was to have had him wear our jersey and to call him one of our own.
He was the Blue Panther: a Hill 16 hero, a Gaelic football legend and a national sporting
treasure due to his prolific role in the iconic Dublin teams of the 70s and 80s.
To us, in Synge Street Past Pupils GFC and later Templeogue Synge Street GFC he was just
Anton or maybe ‘Tooler’, but always an inspirational figure who was the living embodiment
that actions speak louder than words.
Fame and adulation were never things to be craved in his eyes.
Being able to make a difference, make a contribution and play a part big or small for the
cause - be it club or county - was what mattered.
Anton did all of these things - be it with Synger or Dublin - and did so with a grace and a
humility that he also brought to the brave battle he waged against illness in recent times.
That rock of reliability that he was synonymous with being as a skillful Dublin forward, he
also brought to club level where he helped guide us to a Dublin senior county final in 1977.
When Templeogue Synge Street would claim senior club championship status by winning the
Dublin intermediate championship in 2008 it was with Anton as manager.
A number of those who played that day would have played at underage level with Anton as
their manager.
Anton played in eight All-Ireland senior finals between 1974 and 1984, winning in 1974, ‘76,
‘77 and ‘83. In addition to this he was honoured as an all-star forward in 1975, 1976 and 1977.
He will be forever remembered as one of the greats.
Alan O’Brien, chairman of Templeogue Synge Street GAA said: “Anton put us on the map as
a club. He was a great player and an inspirational figure who epitomised what hard work and
determination could achieve.
“He was hugely admired not just by the Dubs but by football fans everywhere and his
contribution to that golden era of GAA history is well known.”
Templeogue Synge Street GFC

43
“He was someone that people enjoyed meeting because you felt better for it. Because he was
never in bad form, always looking ahead and for all the success that he enjoyed at inter-county
level he was always there to answer the call when the club needed him.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his brother Peter and sisters Nuala and Mary and family
and many friends.”
“Ar laoch. Go dtuga Dia suaimhneas síoraí dá anam.”
The role of the Healthy Club Officer is to help our club Templeogue Synge Street become a
healthier place for everyone to enjoy. As a club we recognise health and wellbeing as a core value;
one that is everyone’s responsibility with everyone having a role to play.
Our current Healthy Club Officer is Caitriona Collins, Captain of the Ladies Senior B team. I
participated in the Dublin GAA Healthy Club Officer Training in July 2019. This training helped
me to better understand my role and identify some of the many resources and supports
available to get us started. Going forward I will be looking to set up a Healthy Club project team,
to help brainstorm and role out a number of initiatives over the coming years and months. No
professional expertise is required but enthusiasm and an interest in health and wellbeing is
essential. You can help with one initiative or many, all help is greatly appreciated.
The first initiative took place on Wednesday 14th August in association with AIG. 18 members
of the club attended the Heart Safe Roadshow in CYM/Terenure Sports Club. This included CPR
training, choking training, defibrillator training, defibrillator healthcheck and defibrillator servicing.
This training is invaluable, and I was delighted that so many club members participated.
Please watch out for future initiatives via email and across all our social media platforms:
Twitter: @Tempsyngest Facebook: Templeogue Synge Street GFC &
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Executive & Juvenile Committee for the ongoing
sup-port of this initiative and to CYM/Terenure Sports Club for use of their great facilities.
WOMENS & GIRLS SECTION
We now have approximately 300 in the Girls section of the Club. This is about twice the
number we had playing girls football in 2016 - tremendous growth over the past three years.
We have a hugely dedicated set of Coaches training and organising our teams and must also
say a big Thank You to Kevin O’Donovan in the Academy.
We first fielded an Adult Team in 2011 and another milestone was achieved last year when
we formed a second Adult Team to compete in the Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football Association
(DLGFA) league and championship. Our first Team competes in Division 2 and the second
team in Division 6, both teams are more than holding their own in their respective divisions
– and both teams should finish in the top 5 ….may even be competing for promotion as the
season draws to a close in late September!.
Our second U14 team won the Dublin Division 5 Féile back in May and travelled to
Ballyhaunis, Mayo after this to compete in the National Féile. A great weekend by all
accounts.
The Juvenile championship and cup competitions for the U13 to Minor teams are played in
September/October– best of luck to all.
The very successful Gaelic for Mothers and Others (G4MO) also set up last year – this group
have played in a number of friendly matches, Leinster and All-Ireland blitzes since setting up.
To give a flavour of the numbers coming through from the Girls Juvenile section Templeogue
Synge Street has the following teams;
U8 – 3 Teams
U9 – 4 Teams
U10 – 4 Teams
U11 – 3 Teams
STRICTLY COME DANCING
FUN FRIDAY NIGHTS
I remember when my Friday nights used to be fun, loads of mad nights out with friends. Then
there were a few wilderness years with small children when every night was pretty much the
same, nothing to distinguish Fridays. Then Friday nights became fun again, albeit in a slightly
different way, with the start of our G4MO (Gaelic 4 Mothers and Others) team last year. Not
quite soglamorous as nights out on the town, a bit more sweaty and dishevelled afterwards
(or maybe not), but great craic nonetheless. So when our Captain Fantastic Roisin suggested
“I’ll do it if you do it” – sure how could I say no. So I find myself one night at the start of
February lining up with a group of people, most of whom I had never met before, preparing to
make a total idiot of myself, all in the name of our inaugural Strictly TSS fundraising event.
You get used to feeling like an idiot after a while, especially when you know everyone else
feels the same, and in the end, it’s all for a good cause!
Roll on 8 weeks, lots of laughs and banter with a brilliant bunch of people, training sessions
with the ever patient Fergal, a few bruises and sore limbs, some fantastic FUNdraising
events, and the dawning realisation that we’ll have to do this in front of lots of people (us
sober, hopefully them not), the big event arrived!
I would never have expected it to be as much fun as it was, it was just electric dancing in front
of so many friends and family, all cheering us on and wishing us well. It was over before we
knew it, but the memories and photos will remain! It was a great opportunity to give back to a
club which has made my family and myself feel so welcome and part of the TSS community
since day 1. Thanks to everyone who supported all of us dancers along the way!
