First Church is planning
to begin a mid-week
evening gathering. This
gathering is created
for everyone, regardless
of which service or
campus you attend.
We are calling it the
“FC Gathering,” and it
will take place at the
Downtown Campus
beginning in October.
This will be a time to
build relationships within
our church, have a meal and fellowship together, and then share life together
in small groups. A survey is available in this past Friday’s e-news to gather your
thoughts on what kind of small grouops would best fit those attending. A copy of
that survey can be found at all welcome centers if you wish to fill out a paper version.
Return completed surveys to the church office by September 1.
SECOND GRACE SHOP JEAN DRIVE
The Second Grace shop is no long accepting summer clothing, but they are
collecting blue jeans for kids of all school ages. The sales are starting for all of
the back to school items, so now is a great time to maybe pick up a pair or two
of jeans that would bless a student. Gently used jeans for school-aged kids are
also a welcome donation, so please keep that in mind as you clean out closets
for the upcoming school/fall season.
AD BOARD INFORMATION
First Church Administrative Board will meet on September 13 at 6:30pm at our
Downtown Campus in Wesley Hall. These regular meetings are open for all
members and regular participants in the life of First Church to connect with the
planning and leadership work of the Board. If you’re planning to attend, please
email Rob Deemer at rdeemer@zoominternet.net so proper seating and space
can be provided.
PRAYER FOR BACK TO SCHOOL
Lord, give our children a thirst for knowledge, wisdom and understanding.
May their hearts be ready to learn this year, at home,
school, and church. Open their eyes and ears. May they crave
knowledge and seek it out. Amen
THIS WEEKEND’S SCRIPTURE: GENESIS 22:1-12
We’ll talk about Abraham and the sacrifice of Isaac. Faith in God is not
just something to live by when life makes sense and is somewhat easy and
normal. Living life in relationship with God is for all times, including when
life doesn’t make sense and God seems to ask the hard thing – actually
puts faith to the test. The call is to live with faith that God will provide, even
when things don’t make sense.
