Scotstoun Stadium is a place where most
visitors have known their share of turmoil
over the years, and arrive knowing a
good start is usually imperative.
Leinster were granted just that when
the rapid dancing feet of hooker Rónan
Kelleher allowed him to open the scoring
in the sixth minute.
Hugo Keenan and Adam Byrne helped
the lead along with the full-back dotting
down in the first half before Byrne
extended the advantage ahead of
Sheehan’s bonus-point effort.
There was a perfect night on the tee too
for Ross Byrne, the out-half kicking five
from five.
Ulster 20
27 November 2021
RDS Arena
United Rugby Championship
Ulster wrestled away Leinster
Rugby’s unbeaten URC record
with a late interception try to seal
a 20-10 win in Round 6 at the RDS
Arena.
This interprovincial derby was billed as
a face-off between two in-form sides in
the URC.
The visitors came with early pressure and
made it tell on the score board when
Greg Jones reacted quickest after quarter
of an hour.
Robbie Henshaw, returning for his first
Leinster Rugby appearance of the season
picked off a try in the 50th minute. Ross
Byrne’s penalty restored parity with just
15 remaining.
However, there was one more punch left
in Ulster and after Doak had given them
back a three-point lead, James Hume
picked off a wayward pass to score a
last-minute try and seal the win for Ulster.
Leinster 47
Connacht 19
3 December 2021
RDS Arena
United Rugby Championship
Leinster Rugby bounced back
from defeat in style, registering a
bonus-point win over Connacht in
the United Rugby Championship
at the RDS Arena.
They hit the westerners for seven tries,
three in the first half followed by an
impressive second half salvo.
All the signs pointed towards a Blues
backlash. But, it wasn’t one-way traffic in
the first 40.
Mack Hansen struck first for Connacht
and Sammy Arnold restored their lead
after Rhys Ruddock had hit back but
when Garry Ringrose and Dan Sheehan
both got in for tries in the closing 10
minutes of the half, it looked as though
the initiative was back with the hosts.
That was made clearer when Jordan
Larmour scored after a minute of the
second half before Caelan Doris, Ryan
Baird and Max Deegan saw out the
victory, while Harry Byrne kicked five
conversions.
Leinster 45
Bath 20
11 December 2021
Aviva Stadium
Heineken Champions Cup
Leinster Rugby kicked off their
Heineken Champions Cup
campaign with a 45-20 win
over Bath Rugby at a cold Aviva
Stadium.
There were seven tries on the day, a
brace for Jamison Gibson-Park, and one
each for Tadhg Furlong – the Heineken
Star of the Match – James Lowe, Hugo
Keenan, Josh van der Flier and Rónan
Kelleher.
Three Leinster players also made
European debuts for the province with
Michael Ala’alatoa, Dan Sheehan and
Tommy O’Brien introduced from the
bench.
With a bonus-point secured, and leading
31-13 by the break, the second half was
played with a lot of freedom in front of a
25,000+ crowd at Aviva Stadium.
