Welcome to the <strong>forecourttech</strong> ‘22 edition!<br />
I am looking forward to opening the 5 th edition of the<br />
<strong>forecourttech</strong> conference and meetings convention,<br />
which this year features many new fuel and convenience<br />
retailers as well as returning delegates.<br />
I want to thank NACS Global and IFSF for their continued<br />
support and, new to us this year, Conexxus along<br />
with sponsors of our delegate registration OpenWay<br />
Group and A2i, sponsors of our welcome dinner on the<br />
first evening.<br />
Then to get us started and to ‘break the ice’ Migrolino<br />

Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. and Millat<br />
Convenience Ltd have entered into a master<br />
license agreement that will take the Circle K<br />
banner to South Africa. “We are always exploring<br />
opportunities to bring Circle K to new customers<br />
with franchise partners who understand<br />
how to build brands in their markets,” said Pat<br />
Fitzpatrick, vice president of global franchise<br />
for Circle K.<br />
MAN Truck & Bus has developed a digital<br />
platform for all payment processes relating to<br />
commercial vehicles: MAN SimplePay. The<br />
company has partnered with bp to launch<br />
a pilot phase for the solution, allowing for<br />
automated, contactless and secure payment<br />
when refueling – without cash or cards.<br />

Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. plans to have<br />
retail shops and restaurants in a third of its<br />
gasoline refilling stations by 2025 as its seeks<br />
to boost revenues beyond fuel. In a recent<br />
interview with Bloomberg, Lorelie Quiambao<br />
Osial, CEO of the company, detailed the<br />
firm’s plans to drive non-fuel sales at Shell<br />
stations with a projection of increasing its income<br />
by 15% yearly. A total of 550 forecourts<br />
are set to include retail offerings ranging from<br />
convenience stores to restaurants and different<br />
companies outlets such as Starbucks,<br />
McDonald’s and Adidas by 2025.<br />
Uber plans to exclude ICE cars from its taxi<br />
fleet from 2030, the ride-hailing company’s<br />
CEO has confirmed. “We have a target to be<br />
fully electric in the US, Canada and Europe,”<br />
said Dara Khosrowshahi in an interview<br />
with CBS News. When asked if drivers of<br />
“gas-powered” cars – which includes hybrids<br />
such as the ubiquitous Toyota Prius – would<br />
be allowed, Khosrowshahi replied: “No, if<br />
we’re doing our job, we’re gonna be all-electric.”<br />
Uber previously joined EV makers<br />
including Arrival, Lucid, Rivian and Tesla –<br />
among numerous others – in launching the<br />
Zero Emission Transportation Association, a<br />
group lobbying for 100 per cent EV sales in<br />
the US by 2030.<br />

Shell has launched its first electric vehicle<br />
(EV) chargers in India, for the four-wheeler<br />
and two-wheeler segments. The company<br />
plans to set up more than 10,000 charging<br />
points across India by 2030 and aims to<br />
provide safe, green, and integrated mobility<br />
solutions to its customers through the Shell<br />
Recharge Stations. The power on the Shell<br />
Recharge chargers is 100% green energy<br />
U.S. President Joe Biden has announced the<br />
release of the first round of funding for a nationwide<br />
electric vehicle charging network,<br />
financing the construction of stations in 35<br />
states. “I’m pleased to announce that we’re<br />
approving funding for the first 35 states,<br />
including Michigan, to build their own charging<br />
infrastructure throughout their state,” Biden<br />
said at the Detroit Auto Show, standing<br />
in front of a spate of electric vehicles. Biden<br />
has been a big proponent of EVs, signing<br />
into law incentives to encourage consumers<br />
to buy them and companies to build them.<br />
Shell has selected the Driivz EV charging and<br />
smart energy management platform to help<br />
accelerate the build out of new charging locations<br />
across Europe. The global energy player<br />
plans to operate over 500,000 charge points<br />
globally by 2025 and 2,500,000 by 2030. “We<br />
are thrilled to help Shell realize its commitment<br />
to providing the best and most convenient EV<br />
charging experience available. We are excited<br />
about the synergies between our two companies<br />
and our shared vision for emobility and<br />
sustainability for the health of the planet,” said<br />
Doron Frenkel, CEO and founder of Driivz.<br />

BYD, the Shenzhen-based rival to Elon Musk’s<br />
Tesla, has unveiled plans to take on the European<br />
car market, as the electric carmaker<br />
embarks on an aggressive global expansion.<br />
China’s biggest electric vehicle and second-largest<br />
battery has announced presale<br />
prices for a range of EVs in Europe.<br />
U.S. car rental company Hertz and oil major<br />
BP have signed a memorandum of understanding<br />
(MOU) for the development of a<br />
network of EV charging stations across the<br />
U.S. charging market. The stations will be<br />
powered by BP Pulse, BP’s global electrification<br />
and charging solution brand. The MOU<br />
sets the foundation for Hertz and BP to drive<br />
the future of mobility and accelerate EV consumer<br />
