The Queens Hall, Edinburgh. John has long been
renowned for his skill at transcending musical
boundaries: striving to keep his music fresh and
exciting, never leaving the past behind but
always embracing new sonic adventures. John
was awarded the coveted BBC Radio 2 Musician
of the Year in 2003 and also The Spirit of
Scotland Award for music in 1999 and again in
2009. 2016 saw John receive the Good Tradition
Award and perform with his band at the BBC
Radio 2 Folk Awards at The Royal Albert Hall. In
2019 John received the Outstanding Music
Performance at The Scottish Culture Awards.

RIOT: Riot Days :: At Summerhall, Edinburgh.
Pussy Riot is a Russian feminist protest art
collective based in Moscow. Founded in March
2011, the group staged unauthorised
provocative guerrilla punk rock performances in
unusual public places, which were made into
music videos and posted on the Internet. The
collective's lyrical themes included feminism,
LGBT rights, and opposition to Russian President
Vladimir Putin, whom the group considered a
dictator.

THE BEAR :: At Summerhall, Edinburgh. Fresh
from recording the latest (self titled) Meursault
record on the Isle of Skye, Neil Scott Pennycook
and cohorts descend upon Summerhall with an
offering of songs old and new. As always, the
cast that comprises the Meursault live band is
ever changing, so expect some new faces and
sounds, some special guests and the kind of
intimate and impassioned performance which
this act has built its name on.

Summerhall, Edinburgh. NEHH and Summerhall
are delighted to announce the second edition of
“All Work Together”, a songwriters circle
featuring three more of Scotland’s finest
songwriters performing in a round robin style.
Compered by Summerhall’s Music Programme
Manager Jamie Sutherland, we will take a deep
dive into each songwriters back catalogue and
oeuvre, discussing songwriting quirks and tics,
as well as inspirations and motivations behind
each artists career to date. There will be
elements of collaborative work as well as a
discussion on this editions theme, “Topical
songs”. We hope you’ll join us!
