EDUCATIONAL INITIATIVESDiversity, Equity & InclusionWRC thanks Board member BridgettBattles for leading our Diversity,Equity & Inclusion Taskforce. The DEITaskforce, comprising members ofthe Board, staff and volunteers, leadsthe planning and implementation ofWRC’s strategies related to embracingdiversity and strengthening equityand inclusion for all members of thecommunities we serve. Key initiativesover the past year included thedevelopment of WRC’s Commitmentto Diversity, Equity & Inclusion,inviting feedback from clients,volunteers, and staff regarding howincluded they felt in their interactionswith WRC, expanding the DiversitySpotlight feature of the emailnewsletter, and the developmentof strategic objectives for WRC’sdiversity, equity and inclusion workfor the next three years.One client shared that she hadutilized WRC’s counseling and legalservices. The client shared thather counselor was “compassionateand kind and really helped her toempower herself” and the attorneywas helpful as well. The client statedthat she “was treated with respectfrom the first time she called” andwas so appreciative because she is arecent immigrant and is not alwaystreated this way.DEI Taskforce Chair Bridgett BattlesWomen SpeakWomen Speak, WRC’s interview TV show, continued into its third year in collaboration with MLTV-Main LineNetwork on its television and YouTube channels. Host Dr. Mojdeh Keykhah, WRC’s Director of Development andCommunications, interviewed Nicole Stephenson, Executive Director of the Society of Professional Women ofThe Main Line Chamber of Commerce and Kristy Olinger, an Organizational Development Consultant with theConsumer Bank at Citizens Bank and member of its Women’s Impact Network. STEM trailblazerApril Walker, General Manager of theUS Microsoft Technology Centers,*enthralled audiences in her “firesidechat” with Erin Coleman of NBC10.A greater Philadelphia area resident,Walker shared the inspiring andriveting story of her rise through the tech industry over three decades. Inaddition to her incredible STEM career, Walker serves on advisory boards forleadership programs that support Black women seeking career advancement.WRC is grateful to April Walker, Erin Coleman of NBC10, and major eventsponsors Comcast NBCUniversal, Firstrust Bank, Philadelphia MacaroniCompany and Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health.Breakthrough Breakfast speakerand STEM trailblazer April Walker*Currently Senior Vice President, Customer Success at SalesforceParty with a Purpose (PWAP)raises funds for WRCAdvisory Council and Fund Development Committee members Kate Hermans andLiz Weber hosted their 6th annual Party with a Purpose to benefit WRC on March 18,2022. Guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and drinks on an unusually balmy March evening.Nearly $15,000 was raised for WRC’s programs and services in the community fromthis event. Thank you to all our PWAP contributors and hosts Kate and Liz!Giving Treeat Party witha PurposeState Senator Amanda Cappellettivisits WRCWRC is grateful to be a recipient of a generous $50,000 PADepartment of Human Services grant this past year to supportResource Coordination within our new Financial Stability Program.This program helps women successfully manage life transitionsby equipping them with resources, financial coaching and careercoaching. We thank Senator Amanda Cappelletti and her officefor securing this opportunity to empower women in need in ourcommunity.
