The psychological and financial recovery from a difficult challenge
requires an uphill journey — often much longer than we would like it
to be. Experts estimate that it takes 3-5 years to regain one’s financial
footing after a divorce. With the prevalence of physical and systemic
violence against women, especially women of color, the recovery
process becomes even more challenging and painful.
Angela Duckworth, author of Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance,
argues that grit (defined as the ability to pursue goals with passion
and perseverance as if they are a marathon and not a sprint) is more
important to one’s success than your intellect or IQ.
It is through our shared grit, passion and perseverance this year, that
WRC was able to ...
• provide the highest number of Counseling sessions in our 47- year
history, in addition to continuing virtual minimal-cost Legal
Consultation and Helpline support,
• launch the pilot Financial Stability program, along with volunteer
financial and career coaching, to support long-term financial stability
for women
• restore Girls Lead to pre-pandemic participation levels, and
• implement a shared commitment to equity and inclusion for all
women and girls
Thank you for sharing your passion and perseverance with WRC as we
work to create a world where every woman and girl has the resources,
tools, and support to thrive!
