LocalFamily Law volunteer attorneys offerconsultations in half hour segments,scheduled by WRC.Many women who use this Programare in financial need and are goingthrough the divorce process without legal representation. Manyare also in unhealthy relationships in which they experiencefinancial, physical, and / or psychological abuse.Attorney Kim Dudick, Supervising Attorney at the Law Officesof Jennifer J. Riley, coordinates our Family Law Program.The attorneys in the program work pro bono for WRC. Theconsultations are held virtually with the participating attorney,due to the ongoing pandemic. In addition to these LegalConsultations, WRC offers referrals to local affiliate attorneys whoprovide a one-time consultation for free or at a reduced rate.Currently, WRC offers virtual Family Law consultationssix times monthly, with times available on our website:womensresourcecenter.net“I am immensely grateful for your services. This easy to read primer helps women understand the legalprocesses surrounding divorce, custody and support and the court fees involved.Market Valuation of Legal ConsultationsThe market value of our Family Law consultations and referrals, assuming alawyer’s fee of $350 per hour, climbed to nearly $90,000 last year. GIRLS LEADVolunteer Girls LeadProgram DirectorKristen BurdGirls Lead helpsmostly middleschool girls withuntappedleadershippotential,who are chosenby their guidancecounselors,develop leadershipand life skillsthat help them avoid pitfalls common toadolescent girls. A WRC literature reviewrevealed four common protective skills:communication, conflict resolution,decision-making, and problem solving.WRC facilitators instill these skills duringthe first half of the 17-session program.During the second half, facilitators guidethe participants in conceptualizing andimplementing a Leadership Project,which uses their newly honed skills“OutcomesMarket Valuation of the Girls Lead Programto benefit their school and greatercommunity. At the end of the program,Girls Lead hosts a conference bringingthe cohorts from the different schoolstogether to present their LeadershipProjects to each other.This past year, Girls Lead wasimplemented virtually and in-personat 13 participating schools in Chester,Delaware and Montgomery counties.Girls Lead is needed more than ever andis thriving despite the ongoing pandemic.Life skills that help girls become moreassertive in their relationships whileconsidering multiple viewpoints, managingconflict, expressing themselves withconfidence and making good decisionsare a priority during times of high stress.The virtual conference successfully broughttogether the 179 participants over Zoomwith the theme: “Girls Can Do Anything!”It has honestly helped me speak upabout issues that need to be solved.~ Girls Lead participant79%reported improvedconflict resolution skills82%reported improveddecision-making skills89%reported improvedproblem-solving skills66%said they would pursuefuture leadership roles84%reported improvedcommunication skillsGirls Lead is philanthropically funded and is offered at no cost to schools andprogram participants.
