Establish a budget
1
Money can sometimes be a tricky subject, but it’s a good idea to discuss
costs early in the process and agree on a top-end price for your holiday.
Checking that you’re all on the same page regarding cost will help to avoid any
awkwardness later.
Choose a location
2 Agree on the type of break you’re looking for. Are you dreaming of
an escape to the coast, fun in the city or a rural relaxation? Consider travel
practicalities for everyone too and pick a location that is accessible for all.
Find a property
3 Think about whether you want to share one big property or a cluster of
smaller ones to give more privacy. With so much choice, it’s a good idea to list
your priorities and then use filters in your searches to narrow your options and find
the ideal place for everyone’s needs.
Keep in touch
4 Shared apps are a great way to communicate. Setting up a group message
early on will keep everyone in the loop with all the details. Shared online
documents like Google Docs are a great way to share packing lists and let others
know what you’re taking while a Facebook Group is an easy place to share
photos after your trip.
Plan your itinerary
5 Do your research. Check what’s on in the area before you go and find out
what everyone would like to do. Remember to be flexible though and don’t insist
everyone joins in. It’s worth booking activities and restaurants in advance; with a
large group you’re unlikely to have the luxury of an impromptu dinner.
Stock up on food
6 Pack some essentials and let others know what you’re taking so that you
don’t end up with eight boxes of tea bags! Then consider splitting the cost of an
online grocery delivery to time with your arrival. Traipsing around a supermarket
on the first day of your holiday is unlikely to be anyone’s idea of fun.
7 It’s a good idea to have a shared money pot for extras while you’re there. It
can make paying for dining out, drinks and taxis much easier and avoid tedious
calculations working out how much everyone owes. And, if there’s some left in
the pot at the end of your break, you can have a real blow-out on the last night!
