Regionally Focused, Globally Connected
Gauged by global health, our contributions to the betterment of public health in the EMR resonate beyond the borders of one region. In this report for 2021/2022, we share these regionally focused yet globally connected contributions to several areas of public health: field epidemiology, polio and routine immunization, disease surveillance, biorisk management, the one health approach, public health emergency management, non-communicable diseases, and research.

Surveillance
EMPHNET overcomes challenges that hinder the
effective implementation of disease surveillance
by creating cooperation and synergy among
different sectors.
In the EMR, technical weaknesses, political
instability, and economic challenges hinder the
effective implementation of disease surveillancechallenges
which the countries are undertaking
efforts to overcome. EMPHNET is a recognized
organization within these efforts. Improving
disease surveillance, across different programs
and through different endeavors, is a key
component of EMPHNET’s strategy. We possess
a record of strengthening surveillance systems
for immunization programs, infectious disease
control and prevention, zoonotic diseases, NCDs,
and AMR. We cite specific efforts: providing
technical support, building capacities, establishing
new surveillance systems, and implementing
different and innovative types of surveillance and
registry systems. This year, we built experience
and achievement, expanding into support for
new countries in strengthening various types of
surveillance.
