Quarters
Love can come in many forms such as a hug or a kiss,
But for me it came in fish and quarters.
My grandma often visited me when I was young
To bring my favorites: fish and quarters.
Fish oh so delicate,
Specially prepared for me,
My grandma’s love poured into it
Perfect for me to enjoy.
Quarters in tight paper rolls
Counted out with precision
Clinking jauntily as each one dropped into a piggy bank
Given to me in the hopes that I would never struggle.
