At thesame time the Chinese newspapermy grandma scrambled for everySunday grocery run at Hmart, ouronly Asian grocery around town in2005, and a crop of my grandfather’simmortal New York City bamboosurround me as representativepieces of my Chinese background.All of the little parts of my life fedinto who I see myself as between twocultures; as small as a syrupy Sundaydrive-thru to my grandparents’greatest everyday treasures. ■44
