UPCOMING CHANGE TO THE PRAYER REQUESTS IN THE BULLETIN
Beginning the first weekend of February, the prayer requests in the bulletin will
no longer include the last name. The bulletin is a part of our website, and it is
difficult for the church to know who has given permission for their name to be
publicly released in that context. As a protection for all involved, first names
only will be printed. Intercessory prayer and staff will still use the full names as a
part of their prayer time.
WANT TO RECEIVE TEXT UPDATES FROM FIRST CHURCH?
A couple of times per week we send out text updates to those that have signed up
to receive texts from First Church. Would you like to receive texts? It’s easy to sign
up! Text the word CONNECT to phone number (724) 246-6816, and we’ll take it from
there!
Did you know that First Church hosts a suicide support group twice per
month? I Rise To Save Lives meets on the first and fourth Monday evenings
from 6 - 7:30 pm in the lower level of the Downtown Campus. This support
group serves as a safe space for those who have lost a loved one to suicide
topic to aid in support and healing. The group is led by licensed psychotherapist,
WORSHIP THIS WEEKEND
THIS WEEKEND’S MESSAGE: THANKSLIVING
THIS WEEKEND’S SCRIPTURE: LUKE 17:11-19
This is the parable of the ten lepers, unique to Luke’s gospel. It suggests that
for Luke, a key dimension of experiencing the fullness of what Jesus is here to
offer is gratitude. The word faith in verse 19 is “pistis” – and one definition of that
word is action that flows from trust. So here the Samaritan is being praised by
Jesus because he trusted in what Jesus said and acted on it by presenting himself
to the priests to be healed. But the declaration of being made well (sozo)
– whole and healed – comes only because he recognized the gift he received,
and returned to give thanks
#LOVEYOURNEIGHBOR AT BROAD STREET ELEMENTARY
We are excited to partner with Broad Street Elementary School by collecting
Valentine’s Day bags for each of their 220 students. Grab a bag (or two!) at
the church and fill it with a sweet treat, a salty snack, and a personalized card
reminding them that they are special! (Please avoid including any type of nuts
in your bag due to potential allergies.) Return the bags on the weekends of
February 4-5 and 11-12 and contact Alex at aevanoff@butlerfumc.com with
any questions.
