RECLAIMING THE CENTER
For more than 100 years Kazan embankment — the
most central embankment of Tula, adjacent to the
wall of the medieval fortress (Tula Kremlin) — was
closed to the public, as it belonged to the armory
plant. For decades surrounding streets were
degrading, with beautiful 18 and 19 century
mansions used as communal tenements
MUSEUM QUARTER
The renovated area houses the Museum Quarter
that includes several museums, stores, hotels,
restaurants, food trucks, cafés and kiosks
PEDESTRIAN FRIENDLY
Metallistov street (historic name Pyatnitskaya,
“Good Friday street”) has been pedestrianized
after thorough traffic modeling. As a result, it is
now a bustling tourist street, as well as all the
neighboring cul-de-sacs
