A spokesperson said: “We are delighted to tell you that a new committee has come forward to ensure the continuation of this popular annual community event. The previous members decided to stand down after giving a great deal of their time and doing a tremendous job of organising it for the past ten years. This year's event will have a musical theme and promises to be another afternoon for everyone to enjoy, with many local clubs, societies, artists, crafters and other organisations taking part . “Volunteers and donations are essential to the day and needed! We would love to hear from you if you can help and/or would like to be involved in any way, even if just for a couple of hours on the day. Please email wingerworthfestival@gmail.com with any details or enquiries, remembering to include preferred contact details so that we can get back to you." • AN appeal has been lodged against NE Derbyshire Council’s refusal of outline planning permission for residential development of up to 26 dwellings for over 55s with means of access considered on land to the rear of 263 Nethermoor Road, Wingerworth. The Appellant’s case is that the submission is considered to accord with the policies of the Development Plan and constitute sustainable development in accordance with National Planning Policy Framework. Although the council said that the proposal will erode the gap between settlements and result in landscape and visual harm, the appeal claims this is not the case as the site boundary does not extend beyond existing housing and the gap is not protected by local policy like others in the district. The appellant claims that the proposals will have a limited impact on the open character of the surrounding countryside. The Appeal will be heard by written representation. • A CAMPAIGN to encourage Derbyshire people to chat to each other more is expanding. The county council’s Let’s Chat Derbyshire campaign has seen hundreds of signs spring up on benches in parks and other public spaces. The aim is to encourage people to connect and reduce social isolation through having conversations, as well as promoting information about mental health, wellbeing and available support. Due to the success of the initiative, more signs will go up, some on footpaths across the county. And the campaign also moves indoors with all manner of organisations and businesses signing up to get involved. Luke Oldham from the council said: “This indoor campaign is again to encourage conversations around mental health but it also provides resources which have information around starting conversations, acknowledging poor mental health and how to access support and what support is available.” Further details from the Let’s Chat pages on the Derbyshire County Council website. • CHESTERFIELD area women born in the 1950s, angered by Government postponement of their retirement age from 60 until years later, with subsequent loss of pension, have created a drama that reflects their quest for justice. Call Stung, it is the story of Women Against State Pension Inequality, and it is to be performed at the Studio Theatre, Chesterfield College, at 3pm and 7pm on Saturday, March 4th, and 2pm on Sunday, March 5th. Tickets £8/£6. • A DOG was rescued by firemen after falling through ice on Stubbing Pond at Wingerworth. 16
