ASK THE EXPERT paver protection WHY YOU SHOULD SEAL YOUR PAVERS How does sealing pavers protect them? Most pavers are man made from cement powder, aggregate and color pigmentation. At the very surface of the paver, you’ll find mostly smaller aggregate, cement powder and color. This mixture of materials at the surface is what gives a new paver a smooth finish appearance. However, over time, rain and traffic deteriorate the surface of the paver removing the smaller aggregate, cement powder and color exposing the larger aggregate below the surface. Pavers that have been sealed are easier to keep clean since it’s more difficult for dirt and debris to get lodged in the pores of the paver. Many of the paver sealers on the market have natural oils added to them to enhance the remaining color in pavers. This is especially nice for older pavers since it will make them appear newer.
