2022/23 OFFICIAL DIGITAL MATCHDAY PROGRAMME
Bristol City Women vs London City Lionesses
Wednesday, February 8th 6:45pm 2023
Robins High Performance Centre
Midweek football awaits as we aim to try
and finally face London City Lionesses
this season! It’s a top-of-the-table
clash that has seemingly been
avoiding us all due to various reason,
but hopefully we’ll finally face off at
the Robins High Performance Centre this evening.
I’d like to welcome the players, staff and supporters of
London City Lionesses to the West Country for what
is billed to be an exciting game at the top end of the
table. Since their formation, London City have grown
and developed into a club with a good programme that
has seen success over the last couple of seasons and
they’re fully deserving of their current position.
Tonight’s game is one in which our group will have to
be fully focused for the duration if we’re going to get
the result we desire.
We’re frustrated to have not picked up maximum
points on the road against Blackburn Rovers at the
weekend, but credit where it is due, they frustrated us.
It’s a game in which we’ve got to learn from moving
forward and take or chances when they come our way.
After the disappointment of a late cancellation last
time out, it’s fantastic to see how many fans are still
coming down to the Robins High Performance to show
their support. It’s due to be a big turnout and fingers
crossed we can deliver a performance that’s worthy of
three points.
Get up for it and get behind the squad – a huge
collective effort is required from everyone in the
ground!
>12 THE ROBINS COVENTRY UNITED
The Robins, who have a game in hand on
their opponents, sit three points behind in
the race for pole position, with all still to
play for in the second half of the season.
Palmer and her side will be looking for a
response following a stalemate at Blackburn
Rovers on Sunday afternoon, while Nikita
Runnacles secured victory on her first league
game as interim boss.
“We’re ready to go,” said the midfielder. “We
didn’t get the result we wanted on Sunday but
having this game so close gives us a good
opportunity to put things right straight away.
“We’ve spoken as a team and we know that
everyone is going to bring their A-game
against us so we need to find new ways to
win.
“It’s going to be a tough one but it’s one we’re
ready for. We were ready to face London City
before and we’re even more ready now so we
want to go and get those three points.”
City, who spent much of the first half of the
campaign at the top of the pile, now find
themselves hunting down the league leaders.
“There’s no shying away from the fact that
it’s an important game but we’re together as
a group and you can see that on and off the
pitch,” Palmer continued.
“It’s a game of football at the end of day and
it will come down to who wants it more.
esses
“We know what they’re going to be like.
They’re the team at the top of the table but
now we’re the ones chasing. Everyone has
always said we’ve had a target on our backs
but now it looks like they have.
“It’s a big one for everyone involved and every
player, and every member of staff has done
everything they can to prepare us as best as
possible.”
THE ROBINS LONDON CITY LIONESSES >13
There are 4.36 million of us and we are
tomorrow’s female future.
We’re part of every community and come from all social backgrounds, cultures
and religions with different skills and abilities. We’re an unstoppable force for
good if we’re given the chance. The chance to play football.
We want to play in the school curriculum, at breaktime, after school, at local clubs
wherever, whenever we want.
NO barriers, NO stereotypes
