WORSHIP THIS WEEKEND
THIS WEEKEND’S MESSAGE: WHEN IT’S CONVENIENT
THIS WEEKEND’S SCRIPTURE: ACTS 24:22-25
Paul is in Caesarea and has been accused by the Jewish leaders of crimes
against the law. Paul has defended himself against the lies, and Felix has decided
to wait until Lysias the commander who sent him there arrives to present
the case. Meanwhile, Felix wants to know more about “the Way” and invites
Paul on several occasions to speak to him about Jesus. But when the conversation
turns to matters of lifestyle change and final judgment, Felix is done – he
does not want to talk about Jesus any more. He’ll send for Paul “when it’s
convenient.” I wonder how much of my connection to Jesus is one of convenience?
How willing am I to follow him until he begins to ask hard things of me
– until my living needs to change based on the things he asks of me? Do I take
Jesus seriously until he makes the hard ask, and then dismiss him for the sake of
convenience?
FC GATHERING IN LENT
Our adult groups will focus on Pastor David’s message series
about prayer: “Can We Talk?” Prayer is simply conversation
with God just like you would talk with the one who
is most important in your life. In that relationship you talk
about the good things, the places where you’re anxious,
the times when you’re angry, the moments when you’ve
made a mistake, and you simply enjoy being together.
That’s fundamentally what prayer as conversation with
God is as well. We’ll look at this conversation of prayer
through the lens of several psalms over six weeks leading
to Easter. If you’ve been participating in the FC Gathering,
this will be a time when we’ll all be on the same
journey together. If you’ve thought about joining a group
for a Lenten study, here’s an opportunity to connect to
FC Gathering on Wednesday evenings. Dinner is served
from 5:30 - 6:15 pm, and group sessions run from 6:30 -
7:30 each evening.
