VICKIE GARRISON, MARCH 20, 1948 - FEBRUARY 14, 2023
Our dear Vickie Garrison passed away on February 14, 2023 at the age of 74. Vickie
leaves behind Skip her husband of nearly 50 years, her son Matthew and his wife
Kayce and son Josh.
During the pandemic we only got to see Skip and Vickie a couple of times meeting
at Casa de Fruta to get sandwiches, visiting beneath the trees at a safe distance. In
early 2020 Vickie was anxious about an upcoming doctor appointment, it was after
that appointment that Skip and Vickie’s journey to beat her cancer began. Vickie
had surgery, radiation and chemo and was declared cancer free but with that came
two very difficult years of fighting to regain her health.
Another surgery last summer and an infection in the Fall lead them to hospital and then to Rehab. Skip
spent every day from morning until night with Vickie encouraging and supporting her. An outbreak of
Covid, a transfer to the Covid Unit and Vickie’s health took a turn. Confusion and the inability to
communicate followed and we were so concerned but Vickie rallied and improved enough to be transferred
home right before Christmas to everyone’s delight.
At home Skip was Vickie’s main caregiver, with PT, OT and a nurse coming in a couple times a week. Vickie
was improving and was excited about making enough progress to get out and about in her wheelchair. And
then her health took a turn. She had to be transported to the hospital on Monday February 13th and she
passed away in the early morning February 14 th . Her little body was tired. Our only consolation is that she
is now at peace and not in the constant pain she has had to endure.
Vickie was the inspiration behind what we called Vickie-isms and always teased Skip that he should write
a book. She was fun and so funny and didn’t know it and had an infectious laugh and brought joy to all
around her. We shared so many fun times and adventures together and I will miss her dearly.
She and Skip joined us on as many out of town runs as they could, almost every President’s Run and every
trip to Laughlin. While in Laughlin Vickie’s favorite past time was slot machines and she was lucky! Vickie
loved to read, loved watching golf, collecting American Girl paper dolls, loved going to the movies and
watching Hallmark movies on TV. Her favorite color is Purple.
She loved her sons, her daughter-in-law, her grand pups and Skip. She enjoyed her friends and loved
laughing and having a good time. She will be missed by her friends and family.
Skip was along on every step of her journey and has been her biggest supporter and caregiver. He is a Hero.
Vickie was the best sister-in-law and friend to me, she was so welcoming when I joined the family, we had
a great time at family gatherings, we leaned on each other through the loss of our mothers, our mother-inlaw
and other relatives. I will miss her so much.
Thank you for kind words, cards, texts and emails of support to Skip, Keith and myself. If you knew Vickie
you know she would not want us to be sad for her but instead would want us to enjoy every minute we
have together. And so, we will celebrate Vickie’s life and remember the good times we had laughing
together.
Rest in Peace, Dear Vickie.
Debbie and Keith Garrison
