Sunderland Women defender
Louise Griffiths attended an
International Women’s Day event at
Newcastle Foundation last week.
The Foundation of Light’s Under-10s
girls team played Newcastle’s Under-
10s in a futsal tournament to mark
International Women’s Day on
March 8.
The Lasses defender met the players
after the tournament to discuss her story
into football, answered questions about
her career so far and took time to sign
autographs and get pictures with the
young players.
Speaking to the Foundation of light,
Griffiths said: “I think it’s amazing.
Looking at some of the young girls,
you can see their talent already.
“I think it’s nice to see the setup
that’s there because I know when I
was younger, it wasn’t anywhere near
as good as it is now.”
“Even in the last year, it’s [the women’s
game] has come on leaps and bounds and
I think the opportunities for young girls
and girls of our age is massive.”
