I have warmed to The Fox and Anchor at
Cross Green nr Coven. They have a fi re for
winter and outdoor canal side seating for
summer. I had Everards Tiger £1.50, Marstons
Pedigree was also on. I am very pleased
to end with a cluster of 3 places that I can
recommend highly.
The Calf Heath Canal Marina bar. I had
Mortons Gold £1.30, there is lots of outdoor
seating for good weather.
The Dog and Partridge Calf Heath: I like
the decor, the stained glass windows and the
beer; on 2 visits they had Rudgate Dark Mild,
Youngs Winter Warmer £1.54, Robinson’s
Elbow 4% £1.47. I was particularly impressed
by Greene King Tolly English Ale £1.47 which
was very full fl avoured for a 2.8% ale This is
what CAMRA has asked for.
The Fox & Anchor
The Four Ashes at Four Ashes; I fi nd the
lounge particularly congenial. They have a
good widespread selection from the Marston’s
empire (including Old Empire): Banks’s,
Brakspear and Hobgoblin. In addition you can
get there by bus. Please give them a go.
