BEERWOLF - Wolverhampton Campaign for Real Ale

The chosen overall Champion Winter Ale
of 2012 was the 6.5% Alfi e’s Revenge from
the small Driftwood brewery in Cornwall. I
found it fruity and well-balanced with an
intensely lengthy bitter aftertaste – a bostin’
beer! I made sure I sampled some draught
German and Czech beers on Thursday, before
switching to perry and cider on Friday and
Saturday. A veritable cornucopia of drink...
and as CAMRA encourages responsible
drinking, the sensible 1/3 pint measure on the
festival glasses means you can sample a good
few without overdoing it.

Saturday’s fancy dress theme was the 1980s,
with spot prizes awarded throughout the day.
I noticed oversized shoulder pads and
spandex
garments - all in all a very frightening sight
indeed.
Everyone enjoyed the NWAF
Saturday afternoon there was provision for
families, and Saturday evening’s live band was
“The Unknown”. This year’s festival charity
was again “After Adoption” - last year they
received a fantastic £4,500 so we are hoping
for at least that again.
NWAF will be in Manchester again in January
2013, switching to Derby the following
year. CAMRA members - please come along
and work. You’ll receive a free t-shirt, a
contribution towards accommodation costs
if staying over, and of course the free drink
tokens for every session worked. Or just come
along and drink. Tiring... but great fun.
