LOCAL NEWS H<strong>in</strong>dleys Bakery is 130! Duncan, Alona, Jackie & T<strong>in</strong>a Local bakery H<strong>in</strong>dleys, situated on Tamworth Street, <strong>Lichfield</strong>, celebrated its 130th birthday <strong>in</strong> April. On 1st April 1893, Joseph H<strong>in</strong>dley bought a bakery <strong>in</strong> Upper Brook Street, Rugeley. Pay<strong>in</strong>g £10 for Goodwill, £21 for Utensils and £14 for Stock. In 1928, Joseph’s son took over the bus<strong>in</strong>ess, followed by his sons Graham and Keith. Four generations of the H<strong>in</strong>dley family have worked <strong>in</strong> the bus<strong>in</strong>ess over the last 130 years. Currently fourth generation, Duncan and Jackie, are jo<strong>in</strong>ed by many long-serv<strong>in</strong>g employees, some of whom are the third generation of their own family to be <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> the bakery. Based <strong>in</strong> Rugeley for 114 years the bakery moved to the <strong>Lichfield</strong> premises <strong>in</strong> 2007, <strong>in</strong> a restructure that moved away from multiple shops toward a more susta<strong>in</strong>able model. The product range evolved to reflect the chang<strong>in</strong>g market for sourdoughs and speciality bakes but at the same time, ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>s its traditional favourites. Look<strong>in</strong>g to the future, T<strong>in</strong>a Hibbs and Alona Jackson are tak<strong>in</strong>g over the bus<strong>in</strong>ess and mak<strong>in</strong>g their own mark on the bakery while keep<strong>in</strong>g to the traditional values. ...................................................................................... Work Beg<strong>in</strong>s at Leisure Centre Work has begun on the Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) at Burntwood Leisure Centre. Follow<strong>in</strong>g the World Café Workshop held <strong>in</strong> November, <strong>Lichfield</strong> District Community Safety Partnership secured fund<strong>in</strong>g to improve the MUGA. Work started on Monday 17th April <strong>2023</strong> with new goal posts are currently be<strong>in</strong>g erected as part of the development work. This is the first stage of improvements which will <strong>in</strong>clude <strong>in</strong>stall<strong>in</strong>g basketball hoops and repa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g pitches to make the space more attractive and useable for people across the community. Once completed, these will enhance the current wide range of sports and activities already available at Burntwood Leisure Centre. Many improvements have already been delivered <strong>in</strong> recent weeks <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g a new play area by the entrance and a complete deep clean and refit of the leisure centre <strong>in</strong>terior. Food Hygiene Results Available <strong>Lichfield</strong> District Council’s Regulation and Enforcement team has released the results of their monthly food hygiene <strong>in</strong>spections. All food bus<strong>in</strong>esses, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g those operat<strong>in</strong>g from home, are subject to <strong>in</strong>spection by <strong>Lichfield</strong> District Council’s environmental health officers at vary<strong>in</strong>g frequencies determ<strong>in</strong>ed by the level of risk to public health. Officers provide advice and guidance to all food bus<strong>in</strong>esses <strong>in</strong> order to raise standards, and return visits are made to poorer perform<strong>in</strong>g bus<strong>in</strong>esses sooner. Where necessary, enforcement action is taken.
