The project proposes a new form of urban
narratives, focusing on highlighting
soil remains, fragments. The proposal
brings out, physically and metaphorically,
the elements that make up the
subsoil of a city. Thus, it explores and
experiments with the modern quarry as an
active field of activity but also as a
cluster of inactive matter.

The research study is focused on the
issues, on those actions that are
carried out every day dozens of times,
since the beginning of existence, on
those issues that are not self-evident
but absolutely elementary. In the
following chapters, an attempt is
made to highlight the importance of
the components that make up a meal.
However, trying to briefly describe the
reasons, questions and pursuits of
this research, I had to divide this
multifaceted topic into categories: for
this reason, the following sections are
archival notes on the concepts of
market, food, place, restaurants, of
the objects and finally of the culinary
culture. The questions are of social,
psychological, political and design
nature and try to deconstruct the
elements that make up a meal as well
as highlight their valuable qualities.
Meals are surrounded by strict, social
rules and rituals, numerous and
multi-level choices made by
individuals, centered around food.
Gastronomy, architecture and art
surrounding the concept of food and
meal process prove that the issue is a
complex social phenomenon that
connects place, history and different
cultural traditions. Human societies,
religious traditions, cooking guides,
folk novels, sumptuous dinners,
cloth-wrapped cakes, stories and
myths that manifest like ghosts of the
past in recipes, appetizers and
kitchen secrets, shape the tradition of
the meal.
The meal, served on a table under an
arbor in the summer, in a tavern in a
village square but also at the
restaurant in the center, brings
memories of known and unknown life,
wanderings and experiments while
the cooking, which precedes the
meal, is the melting pot of traditions.
Ultimately this meal is nothing but the
story of a life, which includes us all
and concerns us all the time. The
feeling of a meal, in those meetings
that are accompanied by wine or
tsipouro, but also any other form of
alcohol or a hot beverage is nothing
short of deep pleasure.
Culinary knowledge can participate in
the historical and theoretical
discussions of architecture and art,
and this is the aim of this paper. I seek,
in short, to advocate a stronger
synergy of disciplines whose products
so happily intertwine in everyday
practice that they create quality,
design outcomes. Food, as necessity
or pleasure, as survival or ritual, is a
component of life. Preparing and
sharing a meal is that condition that
brings people together, it is a way of
expression. The events described are
trivial, of course they do not refer to
structured knowledge. The following
pages are an attempt to gather
scattered thoughts, events, facts of
everyday life, which are important.

καλοκαίρι, σε μια λαϊκή ταβέρνα στην πλατεία αλλά και στο εστιατόριο
του κέντρου, φέρνει μνήμες γνωστής και άγνωστης ζωής,
περιπλανήσεις και πειραματισμούς ενώ η μαγειρική, που προηγείται
του γεύματος, αποτελεί το χωνευτήρι των παραδόσεων. Τελικά αυτό
το γεύμα δεν είναι τίποτα άλλο παρά η ιστορία μιας ζωής, που μας
εμπεριέχει όλους και μας αφορά συνεχώς. Το συναίσθημα ενός
γεύματος, στις συναντήσεις εκείνες που συνοδεύονται με κρασί ή
τσίπουρο, αλλά και κάθε άλλο οινοπνευματώδες ή αφέψημα, δεν είναι
άλλο από τη βαθιά ευχαρίστηση.

RESTAURANT: τροφή ή φάρμακο που
έχει την ικανότητα να αποκαθιστά τη
χαμένη δύναμη σε ένα άρρωστο ή κουρασμένο
άτομο. Ένα restaurant αποτελείται
από τους χυμούς ελαφρών,
νόστιμων κρεάτων, αραιωμένους σε
νερό και συνδυάζεται με απαλό λευκό
ψωμί, διεγερτικές σκόνες, κονσέρβες
και μυρωδάτα υλικά.
RESTAURATEURS: εκείνοι που έχουν
την ικανότητα να φτιάχνουν αληθινά
κονσομέ, μπουγιόν και έχουν το δικαίωμα
να πουλάνε κάθε είδους κρέμες,
σούπες με ρύζι και φιδέ, φρέσκα αυγά,

A single, simple structure for people 65+, who
may be alone or within small groups. Social
contacts will be strengthened by activities but
their privacy will be the priority. Occasionally,
they will be provided with medical care and
assistance within the structure (food preparation,
cleaning, ++) but without the constant
invasion of third parties such as doctors,
nurses, assistants, cleaners within their
personal space. The structure will also
provide employment opportunities for
children and adults in conjunction with the
participation of the olders. A "hearth" with
sensitivities towards the individuals and their
particularities that will respond to the
long-term human needs for well-being, both
physical and psychological.

2022
Collection, tangible file or index. An exhibition of objects in
condensation and stillness. Ceramic jars, maps and stamps,
handwritten receipts newspapers and wrapping papers compose a
complex of routes and images, like an informal mapping process with
a personal and archival mark. An exhibition as an expression of the
systematic selection but also of the intuitive gathering of objects in a
journey. The exhibition was held in collaboration with Maria
Mavromichali, at 02-11 of June 2022.

The design idea of the new school of architecture is
inspired by the grid and the multiple forms it can take
as it transforms. The transformed grid is utilized as a
main factor, composing the form, the sections, the
main morphology and the internal organization. The
organization of the area-terrain is a crucial element
of the composition. From Egnatia Street, a limit is
set, by installing a urban square that gently introduces
the users to the building and then, gradually
transport them into a dense vegetation garden. On
the contrary, the configurations on Lambraki Street
are organized as an uneven system with stairs and
individual squares that strongly integrates but
targets the element of gardens, vegetations and
lagoons.

The users, approaching the building, are crossing
the outdoor squares, moving to the semi-outdoor
transitional areas when finally they enter the
building. Stairs as lounge areas, uneven patios and
inner squares receive users by activating multiple
activities. The composition focuses on the building’s
functional organization program by designing
spaces that can obtain multiple activities and create
enjoyable environments with distinct spatial
conditions. The system of columns organizes the
movements of users. At the same time, this form of
external epidermis -skin- controls the external light
that is transferred into the building.
Internally, the spaces are designed based on "open’’
floor plan principle urging for individual remodeling
and adjustments based on the different activities
and needs. This flexible system of variable
partitions, operates a distinct spatial unit, it frames
the dominant use, it shapes with corresponding
principles, it allows free, transparent movement and
vision contact with the outside.

At the edge of a city, 300 meters from the sea,
between two sport centers and two schools, next
to a torrent and a hill, there is a forgotten, empty
plot. Frequent visitors, some horses, are enjoying
the shade between a few trees. Daily passage for
dozens of students or passers on their afternoon
walk to the beach. An inaccessible place, a
romantic place that resisted, a place where land
and nature occured. As a young neighbor and a
student, we were unable to see the site due to the
walls surrounding it. A relatively smooth slope,
few trees, but full of shrubs and grass. It is bathed
in sunshine throughout the day and at its border,
on the left side, a small terrain which floods with
leaves in the autumn days.
We came up with the least possible intervention,
emphasizing and highlighting the existing
landscape, that of anarchic and unhindered
vegetation. The primary goal : achieving
communication between neighbors and
students, revising their standard of a yard, an
open space. The small beige field is the protagonist,
on which, pedestals, small streams and
paths are placed, creating points of interest that
will begin to disappear under the bushes as time
goes by. Two covered spaces are installed, a
projection surface, a garden and a small lagoon.
All the above, due to free placement give the
possibility of multiple uses, by different groups
of people.

restoration in historical context
The restoration of the red warehouse aiming to
become a new student residence focuses on the
proper modification of the existing building in order
to smoothly receive the new activities.We considered
the red, characteristic facade of the building
particularly important. Making it an informal monument
for the area, our manipulations left it
unchanged.
The main problem we faced was lighting. The
building receives a diffused, indirect, natural light
within the requirements of the previous use. For its
functional upgrade, we treated it as a bare system
of beams and columns surrounded by red brick.

The design was organized around two main axes:
the functional organization of the program and the
innovative design of spatial conditions. The degree
of privacy increases linearly in height, the
basement and ground floor spaces contain
activities for both students-residences and visitors,
allowing events to be organized. On the other
floors, the rooms, kitchens, lounge areas are mainly
located. Lastly, at the top floor there are areas
especially designed for events during the summer
time.
