Welcome to One Darlington
Welcome to the summer edition of One
Darlington! With the King’s historic Coronation
celebrations still fresh in our minds, we’re
looking forward in this issue to a packed summer
events schedule in our town centre and beyond.
There are a whole host of memories just waiting to
be made this summer – at the community carnival,
Proms in the Park and Pride Weekender to name
just three. See pages 8 and 9 for more details.
You’ll also find more details about what’s on in the
weeks and months ahead on pages 20 and 21, and
there's a handy guide to our summer of fun on the
back page.
Last month saw voters go to the polls in the local
elections, with 50 councillors elected to represent
all areas of the borough over the next four years.
Among those are more than 20 new faces – find
out who your local representatives are on pages
10-11.
Elsewhere in this edition, we’ve got good news
for the council’s family group conference team,
which scooped a national award recently –
congratulations to everyone involved! Read all
about it on page 23.
We’ve also got updates on two exciting projects
taking shape to bring you improved services
and facilities. Find out how the library upgrade is
coming along on page 4, then turn to page 22 for
an exclusive look behind the scenes at Eastbourne
Sports Complex, where a new athletics track is
being installed.
This summer also sees 75th anniversary
celebrations for the NHS. Turn to pages 12 and 13
to read about how this important event is being
marked at the Memorial Hospital, and find out how
you can get involved.
Thanks for reading One Darlington. We hope you
enjoy this edition.
