Victoria Road
Work will begin this summer on a programme of
updated shop fronts and street improvements,
like those in Skinnergate and the Yards.
This will smarten up the street and make it a
welcoming route between the train station and
the town centre.
A project to improve the pavements and
the layout of the road, including new safety
features and green space, is already complete.
T-levels at Darlington College
A big success story for the Towns Fund was the
opening of the new £3m Ingenium Centre, based at
Darlington College. The centre will teach students skills
in new green industries such as electric vehicle repair,
robotics and wind energy and allow them to experience
the technology of the jobs of tomorrow while gaining a
qualification.
This is an exciting time for the college and for the
young people in Darlington, who now have a wealth
of education and training options open to them in
industries of the future on their doorstep.
The adult skills project, Priestgate
Work is underway to create a dedicated
adult skills centre, supported by the council’s
Learning and Skills team and Darlington
College.
The centre will offer adults of all ages
the opportunity to pick up new skills and
qualifications, whether to upskill, enter a new
industry or re-enter the workforce after a break.
Additional high-quality office space is also
planned for the upper floors of the historic
building.
