Libraries Bookbug Blairgowrie Library offers Bookbug sessions on Tuesday mornings, 10am – 10.30am and Thursday afternoons, 2pm - 2.30pm. This is an under-5s activity session with songs, rhymes, and stories. CULTURE Perth and Kinross The library will be open to the public, so care must be taken to stay safe. Spaces at the sessions are limited, so pre-booking is essential. To book a place, please get in touch with the library. Summer Reading Challenge 2023 Each year the Summer Reading Challenge motivates over 700,000 children of all abilities to read for enjoyment over the summer holidays. It is aimed at Primary aged children from those due to go to school in 2023 to those in their final year of Primary, and this is how it works: • Children sign up for free through their local library and receive a fun pack. • They set a reading goal and borrow books of their choice during the summer, collecting special stickers and incentives. • Library staff and volunteers help children to discover new books that suit their interests and reading level and run a programme of free-themed activities in the library. • Children who meet their reading goal and complete the Challenge are presented with a certificate and/or a medal. • Alternatively, children can take part online at https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/ The theme this year is Ready... Set... Read! and children can sign up from Saturday, 24 June 2023. Perthshire Seed Library The Perthshire Seed Library is a partnership between the Perthshire Organic Gardeners and Culture Perth and Kinross Libraries. The Seed Library aims to enable gardeners (experienced and novice) to share a resource of open-pollinated seeds that suit local growing conditions. Members will also have the opportunity to tap into local Seed Library volunteers’ knowledge, information, and experience. The library costs £6.00 for an annual membership which covers training sessions, author events, talks from experts and a minimum of six packets of seeds. To join the Perthshire Seed Library, you must be a Culture Perth and Kinross Libraries member. Members can donate and receive seeds at their local library (including mobile libraries). Donating seeds can take place throughout the year, and members will receive instructions on how to hand in their dried seeds. In January and August, members will be sent an inventory of all the seeds available from the Perthshire Seed Library and information on selecting a minimum of six packets of seeds (with a reserve list too). The following month members will receive their seeds from their local Culture Perth and Kinross library. Entertainment is also on the menu - dancing, singing and new to our mornings we have wheelchair exercises that some of the friends do from their seats and the rest of us can join in too. So you can see we are a lively lot. In May we are having a Fiddlers Rally, Calum and his grandad playing the accordion and as well as performances from other artists. SCHOOL HOLIDAYS BOYS & GIRLS If anyone has any spare time during this time, come along and help us with our mornings. We would welcome your help. If you a talented singer, play an instrument, dance etc, please give me a ring so i could make up a list of entertainment. The friends would love to see you.
