The Climate Café
It’s been a busy spring for some of our keen
climate café attendees who have been involved
in some interesting conversations; a councilwide
Climate Action Hub, new funding for
projects in the area, and thoughts about
community energy amongst other things.
You may remember from previous
communications that we are looking for
feedback on the possibility of bringing a car
club scheme to Blair. If you would like to know
more and fill out our survey please see
tinyurl.com/Blair-Car-Club-Survey , email us, or
pop in on our meetings.
Since the last hub release, we had some
interesting Climate Conversations with a
screening of The Oil Machine (society’s current
reliance on fossil fuel) and ‘Plastics - Whose
Problem Is It?’ talk with expert John Ferguson.
Our next Climate Conversation may be in June
with Jill Belch on air pollution, look out for
posters or contact us for more info.
There was also a lot of activity around Earth
Day on 22nd April which is an annual event
that raises public awareness of the importance
of protecting the environment. A few climate
café regulars put together a small exhibition
with posters of educational material, aspiring
images, and ideas for practical action which
was kindly hosted by BaRI. We hope next year
we can include some local nature photos or
paintings from members of the public - if you’d
be interested in taking part or have any ideas
on this do get in touch (email below)! Earth Day
was also acknowledged in Perth in the form
of an Earth Day market where Climate Cafés
and other environmentally minded groups
and businesses from across the area also had
stalls with local produce, repair cafés, bike and
energy workshops, interactive games, seed
planting and more.
Looking ahead, we would love to see you at
our meet-ups – a space for anyone to share
ideas, concerns and current information on the
climate and environment, they’re held at 7pm
every third Wednesday of the month in NEST. If
you can’t join us at our in-person meet-ups but
still want to hear what’s going on, then drop us
an email at info@climatecafeblair.org.uk and we
can add you to the mailing list!
“Saving our planet, lifting people out of
poverty, advancing economic growth… these
are one and the same fight. We must connect
the dots between climate change, water
scarcity, energy shortages, global health,
food security, and women’s empowerment.
Solutions to one problem must be solutions
for all”
Ban Ki-moon past secretary-general of the
United Nations.
