RATTRAY AND DISTRICT SWI It’s been a cold spring but getting together and sharing friendship has seen us through. At our “Masterchef” meeting in February we were all treated to baked goodies by chef David Cochrane of the Wee Coffee Shop, and an insight into his successful career in high level catering. Our “Rattray’s Got Talent” Corners Night in March revealed the talents of four of our members, who demonstrated their skills in card making, creating personalised felt elephants, quick/ easy/effective knitted Easter Bunnies and in delicate floral arrangements, for example, in a china teacup. April saw a last-minute change to our speaker so we were very grateful to Kate Davies and her husband Ralph for stepping in to give their fascinating tale of “Adventures into Books” and how they have successfully filled the bookshop-shaped hole they spotted in Blairgowrie. As I write this, our May meeting and AGM is still to come but we look forward to welcoming new and current members, and to hearing Jean Smith’s update on how Blair in Bloom is beautifying the town for people and pollinators (locals and visitors) to enjoy. The following trophies will be awarded: The Sanderson Shield for the Annual Points Winner in competitions from September to April; The Reston Shields for the runners up in the above category; The Caithness Bowl for the lady with the most competition entries without winning. May competitions will be: For the Challenge Trophy - Best use of 100g DK wool; For the Carol Duncan Quaich - A Flower Arrangement in a Jug; and Flower of the Month. We must congratulate our Rattray Rural Runabouts who qualified for the Perth and Kinross Federation Ruralympics Final in March and achieved a very commendable fourth place. Well Done, Ladies! Our outing to see “Legally Blonde” at Perth Theatre was well attended and a great success. This year we established a monthly Craft Group, meeting on a Thursday evening at Nest in Blairgowrie to socialise and share tips and techniques. Attendees usually bring their own projects to work on but, occasionally, we learn new crafts together. Here are the winners of our Spring Competitions.
