June 16, 2009 - Philippine airline
Cebu Pacific Air (CEB), which
offers international flights
throughout the Pacific, has
selected CFM International's
CFM56-5B engine to power ten
new Airbus A320 aircraft. The firm
engine order is valued at
approximately $155 million U.S.,
including spare engines.
CEB took delivery of its first CFMpowered
Airbus A320 in 2005.
Currently, the airline operates a
fleet of twenty-one A319/A320
aircraft; all are powered by
CFM56-5B engines. Under the
latest order, CEB is scheduled to
receive its first new aircraft in
October 2010, with deliveries
continuing through November
2013.
Over the engine's lifecycle,
CFM56 Tech Insertion will provide
the airline with better specific fuel
consumption, which translates to
better fuel burn and, as a result,
lower carbon dioxide emissions
than previous generation
engines.
