level of protection. The College has a partnership with OPRO – a
market leader in mouth guards.
From September the College has partnered with “Return 2 Play”
an online injury management tool accessing the highest Sports
Medicine service in the UK for schools. It will provide a secure link
between Sport, The Foxbury and Sport Medicine. It is a huge
step in ensuring we protect the safety of all pupils in Sport as well
as around the school site in general.
Sport FAQs
What kit does my child need for PE?
A full kit list can be found on page five. However, at the start of
each academic year the Assistant Director of Sport will contact
pupils and parents with an overview of the PE curriculum for
each class. This will include locations and activities so you can
plan for each lesson in advance. Some lessons may be affected
by inclement weather, so it is advised to always pack your
midlayer and tracksuit bottoms if outdoors.
What specialist equipment does my child need for Games?
For students who play regular competitive team sports the
following is required:
• Boots and gumshield for the rugby season.
• Astro trainers, shin pads, stick and gumshield for the
hockey season.
• Bat, box, pads, gloves, helmet and cricket shoes for
cricket season.
• For netball, a very good pair of trainers.
• For other specialist sports such as Athletics, Skiing, Fencing,
Water polo, Swimming, Climbing, Golf and Tennis, please
contact the appropriate Head of Sport or lead coach if you
wish to be advised as to what to buy.
All boys require a gumshield and boots for Rugby. Both girls and
boys require a gumshield and shin pads for hockey. Protective kit
for cricket can be provided and used where needed but it is
recommended that pupils purchase their own kit if they regularly
play for school teams.
What opportunities are there for students who are not in an
A or B team?
Throughout the year there are also fixtures for C and D teams
and sometimes below. In addition, there is an extensive
co-curricular programme at lunchtimes and after school which all
students are encouraged to attend.
Lost property
There are staff on duty on a rotation basis at the Marathon
Pavilion. Any kit left there will be stored for the remainder of the
week before being returned to the School Office. Please ensure
all clothing is suitably named and labelled so that it can be
identified and returned to its owner.
What should my child do with valuables during
Games lessons?
Students are advised not to bring valuables to the Eric Liddell Sports
Centre because the changing rooms cannot be locked due to
frequent use. However, refundable £1 lockers are available if desired.
The Marathon Pavilion changing rooms are locked during
afternoon Games sessions. However, for safety and security it is
best if students leave all valuables in their form room locker.
What happens if a student forgets their swimming kit?
Students should ensure they have their swimming kit with them
at each PE lesson. If they do not have their swimming kit they will
receive an appropriate sanction and will not swim.
Students are never asked to swim in alternative kit such as their
PE shorts.
Why do Sports staff sometimes use their mobile phones
during Games/PE lessons?
While on the playing fields and in the sports hall, staff are
required to register students and account for those who may
be absent. This may require them to email, call or text the School
Office to help locate the students concerned.
Where can I find the College fixtures and information
regarding team sheets?
Information regarding sports fixtures, team sheets, and results
can be found on: www.eltham-college-sports.org.uk
All fixtures are added in preparation for each term once
organised. Some fixtures and cups are organised at shorter notice
so please do keep checking when planning other family events.
Why do some co-curricular lunchtime and after school
activities clash?
Priority nights are given to the core sport for each term, however,
with a wide variety of sport, music, art and drama activities on
offer for students there are inevitably some clashes between
activities. Staff plan to avoid clashes wherever possible but
sometimes it is unavoidable due to staffing commitments,
shared facilities and student availability.
Team selection
All teams are selected after careful consideration and
conversation has been held between heads of sport, coaches
and teachers. Team sheets are planned to be published at least
48 hours ahead of fixtures on SOCS. Students are encouraged to
regularly check SOCS to view their involvement. Every effort is
made to speak to students individually about team selection, but
this may not always be possible before each fixture.
When is the Eric Liddell Sports Centre open to the public?
The school has exclusive use of the Eric Liddell Sports Centre
from 6am until 5.30pm except for external primary school lets
that occasionally use the swimming pool outside of school use.
Therefore, the public have access to whole of Eric Liddell Sports
Centre including the changing rooms from 6pm. Pupils must use
London Marathon Pavilion changing rooms after 6pm and on
Saturdays when necessary.
