During an entire week students from the graphic design
department of the Pedagocial University ‘I. CREANGǍ’
in Chisinau explored their city from different perspectives.
The students developed themes and concepts referring to
their city, based on social issues, personal experiences
and its visual language. Design thinking and design skills
were used as an approach and method to explore, analyze,
visualize and re(act) on the city life and its inhabitants.
The students, sensitized to their social and cultural
environment, were encouraged to take an active and
responsible role towards a complex urban environment.
The outcome of this week’s project is a vivid and dynamic
interpretation of contemporary urban life. Next to the
magazine the participants presented and discussed
the results with the local audience.
Chisinau is the capital and largest city of the Republic
of Moldova. It is Moldova’s main industrial, social and
commercial center and is located in the middle of the
country, on the river Bîc. Chișinău has an estimated
population of 674,500.
The publication is the outcome of a workshop conducted by
andrews:degen (www.andrewsdegen.com), a graphic design
studio based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. It was made
possible thanks to the support of the German cultural
institute AKZENTE in Chisinau. Special thanks to Simion
Zamsa for his inspiration.
